- Members of the public have expressed mixed reactions to the proposed minimum wage. The Minimum and Equal Wages Commission has proposed a rate of $6.50 per hour or $1126 per month. The proposed new minimum wage order which was published in the Gazette, inviting comment and objections from the Public who have up to the 6th June, 2024 to raise objections.
High cost of living should no be affiliated to any political party. Lucian’s have been struggling to put food on their tables and pay the bills for too long. Come on my people 😮
It sounds like a lot of people don't know what the term "minimum wage" means. Currently there are people who make less than $500 a month working full time.
Now, that will be illegal. Some of these people are talking as if everyone will make $1100. That is the least you can make. I don't understand how people are up in arms about this. Don't we understand that if salaries are very high, then the cost of goods and services will skyrocket?

Funny noone seems to realise that raising the minimum wage will lead to all busineses raising the cost of their goods and services or terminating some staff and increasing the workload on the remaining staff to compensate for the increased cost of labour.

It's a good start, and we need a livable livable wage...we are getting paid by the day and not by the hours worked.The pay should be based on 8 hours and not 12..
12 hours are overtime and should be paid Double Time any minute after the 8 hours period..

No. You need an acceptable level of competency in your work, otherwise there is absolutely zero entitlement to a “living wage.” A “living wage” is a fallacy that has never been the standard in all of human history. A minimum wage increase leads to a loss of jobs and opportunity for the people. Have you seen chat gpt 4? Do you honestly think the average minimum wage worker is better than an advanced AI model?

Eliminate the minimum wage. An increase would be a disaster for the people who are already suffering from the highest rates of inflation experienced in decades. If Lucian’s want better pay, gain skills to qualify for higher paying jobs.
Well said Mr. Instead of increasing, it's decreasing. The cost of living is so high, and your payment is lower. Ridiculous. $6.50 is nothing. How can you feed your family after paying all your bills which are so high. C'mon. And ministers of government making so much money at the end of the month.
