  • Mattawoman Creek in Southern Maryland is a freshwater tributary of the Potomac River rich in history, beauty and FISH!
Both Largemouth Bass and Northern Snakehead like to call it home and fishing for them in the abundance of pads throughout the creek is a great time.

I read that we are being told by DNR to kill any snakehead caught since they are an invasive species. Nice video though, thanks for sharing.
    Are snakehaeads good eating?

Snakeheads are amazing to eat - and while the laws used to state you had to kill any fish caught that has changed. While you cannot transport any snakehead alive you are allowed to release them where caught.

Nice trip. Mattawoman hates me. Can pretty much guarantee a skunk everytime I go. lol. So I don't fish there any more. :)

Are you launching at Smallwood state park or is there another ramp you at putting in from? I couldn’t tell from the video. I’ve only fished Mattawoman once back when I had a bass boat and I didn’t realize it was that big, I guess it’s easier to get through roads and into other places with the kayak.

Hi, i live close to this place and I want to fish some snakehead, do I need a kayak for optimal snakehead location? can I just fish from land?

Look up Mattingly Park or Slavins boat ramp. They are both the same location just sometimes referred to differently.

You might want to watch yourself releasing a snakehead is against the law in Maryland. it's a fine not a jailable offense but just to let you know you got it on film. You are supposed to kill it first. Take care. Nice video.

Nope. It is perfectly legal to return a snakehead where and when it was caught. It is illegal to transport a live fish.

@@graveltraveldirt Sorry, about that. It is legal to catch and release snakehead in the Mattawoman Creek but not in the Potomac River, lol. I was pickeral fishing earlier today. Caught 3 on a spoon, lol. I seen a Game Warden and asked him. He said it all depends on where you are at. Have a wonderful day! God Bless America! Thank you.
