  • UPDATE from 2022. Some of the footage from this video was used by Channel 5 in the show Jane MacDonald :My Yorkshire. I even got my name listed on the end credits
Back in the box of my Dad's cinefilm reels and this time its footage from a visit to Scarborough, some time before 1972.
Footage includes driving in, an afternoon on the beach and then the naval battle re-enactment in Peasholm park.
Let me know if you enjoy these cinefilms and I will dig out some more.
    Dave.

I remember seeing Ken Dodd as a child at the Futurist theatre in the early 70s. I also remember a lot of my holiday spent in Corrigans much to my parents disgust whilst they sat on the beach in deckchairs. I recall cheering and booing at the Naval battle which was always a holiday treat. What a great video and brought back a lot of my childhood memories thank you.

Many a brilliant family holiday with my mum and dad, 1st week of August, always stayed at the same bed and breakfast every year, the couple owned the st Ann's b&b , then moved down the road and ran the Curzon. Always remember running with my mum and dad trying to make sure we got the last tram up the cliff , because it was hell of a climb up if you missed it 🤣🤣. Happy times 🙂

The Donkeys! The Corona! Peaseholme Park! This brings back so many memories of a simpler time. Loved Scarborough back then. I pestered my parents to go every year to Scalby Mills caravan site. I used to wander down to watch the naval battles, though my dad was alwasy too tight to let me try the watersplash. One year my dad was on a works conference there and as a perk got a free pass for the little train. Well that was it, I was up and down all holiday, just flipped the seat back the other way and off for another trip, the driver was most amused. Another memorable year we got a pitch overlooking the sea. I didnt want to leave. I'm off now to try and find a video of the Hispaniola or Marineland.

Came to the channel for the Scotland Street video and realised you seem to have captured my formative years on your channel, just need to throw in Ravenscraig (I know not really Glasgow). Our entire family would decamp to Scarborough after the Glasgow fair (contractors so busy time for my old man), take over the Bydand guest house up near the cricket ground and scroll through the list: Atlantis Water Park, the water chute, Its a Knockout at the open air theatre, Peasholm Park, miniature railway, Marvels Amusement Park, the Futurist Theatre for the big name comedy act at the time and many a visit to the working mens clubs (not bad for a kid still in primary school). Highlight for me was the naval battle, have to admit we spent most of our time in the North Bay with only a couple of trips a visit to the South Bay which generally involved a walk along to the Spa and lido.
Had a look at going back and taking the little one, but all that is left is the water chute and miniature railway, North bay does not even have its funicular railway lifts anymore. Still no one to blame but ourselves, chicken and egg, did we stop going because the attractions dropped or did the attractions drop as we stopped going.....
