Mannnnnn watching Daddy Cornstar EVEN TRYING to maneuver up there on top of the bin site with HOW unstable the handrails and stuff are has my heart sitting in my throat.......
I totally agree and it scares me to death. We had compared to the height of those ladders a minor almost deadly situation with a step missed by my husband coming down an extension ladder 2 years ago. He fell and broke the head of the femur right off and broke numerous ribs. It was horrible! Although it was a healthy fall it was nothing compared to off those steps on the bins. That would be deadly. I took care of a patient who fell off his single story home landing on his head who ended up a quadriplegic with 2 young children. He was putting up Christmas lights. It doesn’t take much. I just wish they could gets those bins safely useable but my fear is it’s going to take years.
How fun you make it seem helping your neighbors get their crop in before the freezing rain. The whole time you explored and smiled like I big kid. So much fun to watch. Makes me want to be there helping out with you learning the different equipment too. 😎
I see Daddy Cornstar struggling with brand new equipment that he should be able to push a button on and it work. I hope you've got the best attorney a farmer can have. I feel for you all. The other thought is, Cole you made me laugh so much explaining the biologicals. Oh, I hope you always keep that sense of humor!
It's amazing how smart you are about farming and crops. Are you going to pick the extra corn that with higher level of bushels? Or do you have to do experiments for the seed company? They pay you for that? That was a bunch of work. Great job Cole. Neal
Cole when your Dad went on top to check how full that bin was.........well I got angry at how lousy of a job they did, everything he touched seemed to be loose or not even attached. Wow! I really hope you all get it straightened out. I'd be spitting nails.
I tell ya I would be up there fixing that shit myself, pretty dumb leaving it like that you can forget and off you go, fix the shit before u get hurt...
Adding the new semi and running two combines, no wonder your diesel bill went up so much. Hopefully, you’ll show us the math on it all. Because I’m sure the break even point change, by getting done with harvest quicker and having to run the dryer less.
Cole, you all need to invest in a couple of "torpedo" heaters to thaw out things with. They are made to run on kerosene, diesel fuel or some run on propane. That's what we use to thaw our conveyors at work with as well as large frozen pipes and pumps. I'm sure you've seen them and may even already have one? Also, when I see DC having to climb up on the bins with those loose hand rails it really pisses me off that the contractors did such shoddy work, especially on the safety hardware like that.
Aren't there bird sonar devices which send out a sound only birds can here? It keeps them away perfectly. We used the in the Air Force to keep them away from certain hangars. Pest Control people may know what these things/devices are called.
You'd figure if you're building something that will be seen by literally hundreds of thousands of people, you'd go above and beyond to make yourself look good.
Good call on bringing the DEF inside. I just spent a week building an insulated shed for a DEF tote. Apparently it crystalizes when it freezes and is no good after that.
That diesel bill was crazy! So sorry! So very sorry...for all the farmers, ranchers, truckers, and anyone else who relies on diesel fuel in this country. For that matter, I feel bad for all of us in this economy.
Have to ask you Cole. Did you ever check out other people's setups or did you just go with the lowest bid? Seems like that bin site you are at today would have been worth looking at first.
While I’m not certain of the answer, I’ve been watching this channel for a long time and I truly don’t think there is any way in heck Cole didn’t do a lot of research on set up and contractors.
It seems like there's a new problem with the bin site every day. Maybe it'll be best to tear it down and start over with a different contractor. The one who built this mess will be responsible for paying for it. Sloppy and careless workmanship. I enjoyed watching the video, big thumbs up helping your neighbor
Got an extra $700,000 laying around? Tear down and rebuild... probably over $1 million. The bin company isn't going to fork over a dime until the lawsuit is settled which could be dragged out for months.
@@laanderud months...more like years. There was an accident on my family farm. The drugged out laborer sued my dad who owned the farm, my grandmother whose land we were harvesting, the John Deere dealer my dad bought the equipment from, and John Deere corporate who manufactured the equipment. John Deere's corporate lawyer mopped the floor with his lawyer and he got nothing but worker's comp which he was entitled to, but it was over two years of hell for it to play out in court.
If they can’t land, they won’t poop on your grain equipment. Bird spikes are a physical barrier to the birds lighting on a protected area, so they go somewhere else.
Back in the 70s my grandpa used to put rubber snakes in different locations on top of his bins! He told me that he never had problems with birds. Give it a try!
It should be condemned.... I wish they would fix the hand railings and do a full inspection of every nut, bolt, rivit and weld before some one falls to their death.
The company I work for had equipment that runs outside as well as indoors. For the outdoors or non-heated installations we can and often add a thing called heat tape to various parts. It's flexible heating tape that gets wired to power. When turned out it keeps that part warm to prevent freezing. That might help you out.
I used a propane cannon with a motion tracker to scare off birds from my feed silos. Worked very good apart for scaring the crap out of me a few times.
can you please not climb around on that rickety bin setup with a camera in your hand..... It's not worth getting hurt. 3 points of contact at all times!!!!
yeah but everything you would attach it to is either broken or loose because of the shoddy workmanship of their appallingly bad contactor - i worry for them all because that is a nasty accident waiting to happen.
Hey guys, I live up in Alaska. Heres a safer way to thaw stuff. Go buy a 3' piece of 6" woodstove pipe and a 6" 90° elbow. Put the two together and take a couple bricks or rocks to prop it up so the opening of the 90° is under your auger or oilpan of a vehicle. Stick a propane weed burner in the other end of the pipe. There will only be intense heat coming out of the elbow, no flames. We do this to vehicles, heavy equipment, etc. Good luck guys!
Yes def freezes at +19 deg F. But no damage done. Trucks have tank heaters and line heaters to thaw it out. It must be available (liquid state) to be injected 30 min after a cold start. No idea if AG equipment is any different, I would assume it is very similar. The only exceptions are diesel fire trucks and ambulances. All others will comply, or the epa will come knocking in the middle of harvest or planting which ever time is worse for u!
Wow, the railings on the bins is enough for a good lawsuit. Here’s hoping y’all get a good inspection and every issue fix with from this terrible work and hopefully take this company down. What a shame. Be safe out there Cornstarch family. 🤟🏻🇺🇸✌🏻❤️
Grew up in WI and we just kept a pellet gun handy and popped the sparrows and nuisance birds. They learned real quick not to come back. If you're not up for take ng out invasive species you can use decoys, or any type of moving fluttering flags/tape
I have to say that’s very upsetting about your guys bin site is very unsafe and unstable that it could kill someone. You got to go after the contractor who’s responsible for this.
1,000,000 project. Shouldn’t a project manager have been hired. Someone (farmer or project manager ) should have seen bin wasn’t caulked. in construction you should be making draws as contractor hits different phases of the job. Money isn't released till everything is finished .
It is impressive to see y'all work with a new bin site that should just function and not display the aggravation you must feel and articulate off camera. I can assure you, I wouldn't be able to keep the edge off my voice or body language. I am praying for a just and speedy resolution to this situation which must cause not only aggravation but also stress. Thanks to Cole and DC for your good example. Stay warm. God bless!
I think I'd rather see a black screen with the text "Daddy Cornstar went on top of the bins..." than have that horrid feeling I had when I saw him holding the camera up there and all the rails wobbling! I'm sure we'd all understand if you don't want to risk filming whilst up there. Stay safe. Great content as always.
For the bird problem, I don’t know if it will work for grain bins but my high school puts a plastic owl in the bleachers to keep birds out, and it sure does work!! Keep up the good work Cole, I love the way you edit your videos!
I could just see daddy cornstar going head over heels off that bin!! I hope you are able to fix the bin site proplems soon as its making me ill with worry xx 😌❤
The air leaking at base isn't unheard of and the static pressure isn't impacted dramatically. With that said shouldn't be like that on a new bin. You can still get a hot rubber seal on the outside done to correct but should go on top of the settlement with contractor. Will have 4-5" black band all the way around but will be sealed. It's what should have been done on the inside or a good EM seal. Sorry to see all the issues you've been burdened with. I'd think the contractor would want to settle before someone gets hurt and the lawsuit grows astronomically.
My suggestion for keeping birds off your bins is to not have an open access panel spraying corn all over the place every time you run the leg. I don't know how long that situation was going on for, but I figure they got used to the excellent, safe food source you were providing and will probably keep coming back for a while looking for more.
Hey you guys be careful on those bins. Shut that crap down before somebody gets hurt. I don't care how much grain you have, it's not worth one of your lives.
You should seriously consider having Rotary Level Indicators (Bindicators) installed at minimum in the half full and full position on every bin you have. They can be written in to your program to automatically disconnect the equipment that is feeding the elevator or at the very least have lights illuminated to tell you when they are full. Believe me when I say that after some time passes, climbing to the top all the time to check will begin to lose some of its appeal 😐🤭
And they could also add visible indicators every ring or two on wet storage and overhead bins to watch progress of filling. I can't remember brand name, black/yellow color change when grain is at that level and they can be seen easily at night from the ground with a flashlight. Also put one at next to top ring on storage bins and it will eliminate climbing until the very end of filling.
Thank you guys for all you do. Sorry you fell pray to the pathetic work ethic we are seeing in this country right now. I know what it is like to have a dream then build it to find out some people just don.t give a crap. Good luck.
FYI diesel exhaust fluid freezes at about 11 degrees if not agitated. Most truckstops have issues with dispensing at or below that temperature in the winter.
There's a "caulk" called "no-roost", I think. Look were the roost on the bins and apply this stuff. There is one thing birds hate is get anything stuck to their feet.
Had trouble with pigeons at a hospital I worked at. Told the head engineer to make peregrine falcon nests on high points. Once the falcons moved in, the pigeons went elsewhere
To keep birds away, put some toy rubber snakes on the roof and hanging from the gutters. Birds hate snakes and won't build nest nearby if they see them.
The condition of the bins, being brand new and having everything fall apart is just deplorable. Sue them into the ground. Speaking of driving a different truck, at UPS everything runs on seniority. So I had one of the nicest tractors there. I ran Los Angeles to Las Vegas and back every night. But every year, for tax purposes, every tractor has to be taken out of state. So for 58 days I had to take a different tractor each day. Some drove nice, some were total junk just used for local routes. It usually took a few hours to figure each one out as to their little quirks.
Hate to be you driving them 400 horse going to 550. Let me know my dad works at RB. FYI I started driving OTR in a 379 with an ISX at 550. I left it to drive a 379 c15 with 700 hp. Cole no not for you! My question is is the rise in fuel going up according to corn raises?
Viewers have seen the loose handrails on the grain bins for several videos now. It is well documented for legal purposes. Before breaking a leg or killing myself trying to make a point about shabby construction, I would buy $100 worth of 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8 bolts and stabilize that stuff
That Whole POS needs to be taking down and Redone.... Nothing Works... Every time you fix something it breaks again OR Something Else goes Out. Honestly has there Ever Been a Day Everything has worked?
Here buildings use hawk kites on these poles that resemble fishing rods and the kites have quite natural movement of a cirling hawks ready to swoop, so birds don't make nests on the roofs - or like to be around the kites. :)
i feel bad for both contractor and you. in the end i hope you dont publish their names. it wouldnt be good. because they probably weren't qualified to do that kind of job you asked of them to do. both are at fault. it's not just one sided here. obviously it sucks. but the amount of time given wasnt enough time clearly. people here want that company gone, but you should have researched them more to tackle the job, blame goes both ways. it just does.
When will we see the video of your wedding to your beautiful, pregnant wife? When is the baby coming? It’s exciting news! Don’t hide the fact you’re having a baby and got married. Those are 2 beautiful gifts of love! Don’t be afraid or feel embarrassed. Babies are miracles no matter when they come! ❤
I realize this isn't the correct video for this question, but figured I would ask here anyway. Do you know how much more fuel you burn, when you run with the Devastators? I would assume it's minor, and way cheaper than going back over the fields chopping.
Maybe You should take those loose bin rails and beat the guy that installed them like that! Really You all should not be going up without safety belts on up there!
HERES ANOTHER THOUGHT... IF THE METALS ON YOUR BUILD ARE SO FLIMSY WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A TORNADO HITS...EVERYONE IS GOING TO BE SLAMMED WITH YOUR BIN...HOUSES, CARS, ANIMALS, PEOPLE; MILES AROUND, THAT WILL BE TERRIBLE...JUST SAYING...HOLD THE MANUFACTORS TO ACCOUNT, MAYBE YOUR ATTORNEY.
Scare birds with those hawks on flexy rods?
Local bus station keeps pigeons and seagulls away with three flexy hawks.
Cole have you brought in the state building inspectors,to check for code violations?
Umm yeah that be great. Then can't use at all smart
Maybe You should take those loose bin rails and beat the guy that installed them like that! Really You all should not be going up without safety belts on up there!
DC you probably had adrenaline withdraw. The stress of harvest must oof caused your body to produce more. Then you crash when it goes back to normal.
SHOULD BE INVOLVED
