- I take a 40k player through their first game of Infinity Code One. This demo game explains every phase, option and step we each make in this real game.
As this Warhammer 40k player gives Infinity a try I explain the game and answer his questions. So come and watch if you're keen to see what Infinity is like to play through the eyes of a complete newcomer.
When teaching this game, I love when you see the other person suddenly realize how it all works, and when they start making tactical decisions on their own. Great video!
I’m almost at that moment myself 😂
@@the_infinitygamer 😂
Found this really helpful. I know code one isn't going to be sticking around for N5, but it still gave me an idea of some of the key components of the game. I've ordered my 1st purchase the other day of morat aggression action pack and the bakunin action pack to get hobbying, so when N5 comes out, I can get started on my infinity adventure. Finf your channel is really informative, useful & good fun also.
Thank you so much. Hoping to create similar breakdowns for N5 to help new players get to grips with the rule set
@@the_infinitygamerlooking forward to seeing that. My gaming group will start Infinity with the new edition
Excellent showcase of the actual experience of CodeOne and, indirectly, of Infinity... Great production as well...
Thank you Rob, always appreciate the feedback 😁
First game in a very long time tomorrow. Worth watching again as a worm up ❤
How did the game go?
Thanks for the vid! As my friend and I are just starting out, this was super helpful in clarifying a few things!
Do glad it helped!! Hope you can get some more games in to test your knowledge.
DEUSVULT from Venezuela! what a great demo game!
Nice video. Only thing I'd add is it would have been nice to have heard how your friend liked the game and such. Hope he enjoyed it.
That would have been a good little addition. Great suggestion!
Perfect vid to point new players to, thanks!
Thank you! Hope a few people thinking of the game find it 😄
One other thing to note.
Critical hits with Double Action (DA) Ammunition cause the target to make an additional Saving Roll.
So should have been 3 saves not 2.
This is true!
I know this is an old video BUT (for anyone new and watching), you CAN shoot for your first half of an action and then move for the second half. you just can't shoot then dodge as a reaction to an aro for example.
I mention this as at 20:10 you sad he can idle instead of move then shoot (which he can) BUT he could have shot and then moved, he just wouldn't have been able to use his second action to react to the aro. Basically you can: move + short skill OR short skill + move OR move + move but NOT short skill + short skill. short skill being dodge, shoot, pick up etc. 😁
You absolutely can. I generally don’t teach that as it can create some awkward interactions. Also, the N4 FAQ clarified that you can’t declare a BS attack to a model you can’t see and then second short skill move to see it. That’s where I saw a lot of people declare shoot first then move. Otherwise there are very few instances where declaring BS attack then moving is the better option.
@@the_infinitygamer ah yes, obviously the main way i’d use it would be to shoot a valid target then move out of sight if possible. 😅😁
Absolutely!
But with ‘everything happening at once’ you could also move out of LOF with your first short skill and shoot with your second. At least by moving first you know all the targets you’re facing and can decide what to shoot.
If you declare your BS attack on a target first, then move, there’s a risk of a hidden trooper revealing that you now can’t shoot because you’ve declared your action.
@@the_infinitygamer Obviously that will depend on the position of other models/camo tokens but THAT is what i love about this game, it's so much more tactical than anything else BECAUSE of the "all at once" thing, you really have to think about your order and how you play them AND your opponents ARO's
Could not agree more!
I’ve been burned by Noctifers too many times to ever consider shooting then moving but it is still good to have that option!
Another demo game in the works ? With no drums please ;) This video is a great tool to understand the mechanics. Thx!
Maybe! I have an N4 battle report in the works and will remember to tone down the drums.
Awesome demo!
Thank you!!
There's a good point made at 26:35 that I completely missed. You have to declare the Short Movement Skill first, the Short Skill second. The 'vice versa' on page 22, bottom left corner, third bullet point only applies when you declare two Short Movement Skills. It's all simultaneous, but the declaration order is the thing.
That's incorrect. You short movement and short skill can be in either order. The vice versa applies to that, not the two short movement line. It's just almost always better to do movement then short so you can see what aro's are going to be before declaring your short.
Exactly. You can shoot then move etc but it’s rarely the better option. Moving before any other short skill gives you options for range and helps you see what incoming AROs are coming.
Okay so one dude got turned to Swiss cheese by BFG and another dude got beaten to death by a psychotic woman... Damn this game is scary, but nice.
Hahaha yup! That's how these games go. You feel like you're playing in some epic war story.
SURPRISE ATTACK The user of this Special Skill must be in their Active Turn. Is it different in Code One?
It should be the same as N4 rules which I think is active player only on it but I could be wrong.
Yes must be in the active turn, Code One page 77
Thanks all! We weren’t sure at the time and didn’t have the rules handy to check. As it didn’t affect the outcome we kept it in. This is the downside of playing models with abilities you never use on camera 😂
Thanks for clarifying! Luckily didn’t impact the game and I should remember that for next time 😄
@@the_infinitygamer thank's you for the video! I love Code1 because it's more friendly and fast, so every video about it is appreciate!
Hello 👋. New here. Was wondering if the buildings and mat come with a starter box
The mat does but the buildings shown in the video are from Brutal Cities. The terrain that comes in the starter sets are really good though!
I have N3, but find it difficult to get new players into the game. Seems like I should get CodeOne, since it´s easier to get new players into. I have had a love for Infinity since I got my hands on Operation Icestorm when it came out, but in my area there are no Infinity-players. It´s mostly Warhammer around here, so I should try to include some Infinity as well. And with the social distancing these days, I have a lot of time to get Kaldstrøm painted and ready. CB will be getting a lot of my wallet forwards. Need the N4-rules too.
Code One is absolutely the best way to get new players into the game. Hands down.
Yes using lockdowns and restrictions is a great way to get the models painted so newcomers fall in love with them too!
This is a great terrain set, where's it from?
That is from Brutal Cities 😃
I like the buildings, are they homemade?
No they’re from Brutal Cities 😀
What a great video! #DEUSVULT with panoceania!
Solid report!! Great for new players. I need to ask. What terrain is that? And what battle mat are you playing on!??
Thank you for the feedback! The buildings are from Brutal Cities and the mats are from Deep Cut Studios I believe.
If I get interupted in moving in the 1st short skill by an ARO, is the BS attack of both player part of the ARO and after I need to finish my move to the end. And then I can spend my 2nd short skill? Or is the BS attack from the oponent ARO part of my 2nd skill? In the manual on page 37 is the example. That means I need to spend my 2nd skill while I did not finished my 1st skill?
You don’t get interrupted. Your movement will be completed then your opponent declares an ARO. You then respond to that ARO with your second short skill.
Does that help?
I've played N3 but only at home with my Son. Operation icestorm with the full N3 rules and experimenting with proxy..... on the surface, I cant see what makes Code One simpler aside from missing a few extra options/rules. Is that it or am I missing something?
Love the content BTW!
You’re welcome!
A few things I noticed were fewer nested rules. If a unit gets a bonus it says the bonus on the profile. Dodge +3 for example rather than, say, Kinematica in N3. As a newcomer having the trait and buff on the profile means you’re not having to remember dozens of words and the associated perks.
Dodges getting the 2” move regardless of whether it’s your active turn or not was nice as it simplified the mechanic.
IIRC camo got mimetism built in on N3 while now a unit can have camo but not mimetism. It’s on the profile if it has something not hidden 4 layers deep in the wiki.
That’s just my perspective but I also appreciate some people don’t struggle with complexity like I do!
Nice report, but in a long video like this I find the drummy background music over the spoken dialog quite grating. Just as a fan's feedback.
Thank you, I do appreciate it!
I know that this is a year old now, but just wanting to mention that surprise attack doesn't affect an ARO. It only works when in your active turn
I take it you mean that you can’t apply surprise attack in ARO? As it very much affects AROs.
Great Video! Where did you get your terrain from? Is that PlastCraft?
It’s Brutal Cities terrain 😃
Sheshkin for a first game? Wowzers.
Too much?
@@the_infinitygamer It's a tough call. A Caliban would be a nicer choice to display close combat with but camouflage could be frustrating for a new player.
Would you drop Achilles in a first time game?
Or playing into the HeroHammer thing?
I was thinking Caliban but already had 2 camo tokens. I definitely didn’t use Sheskiin to her full potential 😆
@@the_infinitygamer Never underplay a model's capabilities.
I'm 5 minutes in and I'm finding myself having to pause it and ask, why are your wall sockets upside down!?
Hahahaha seems to be the way New Zealand does it!
@@the_infinitygamer ah, didn't realise you were in NZ. Great video, my mate and I are just getting into C1 with a view of getting into N4 once we have mastered the basics
Everything’s upside down here. That’s brilliant have you both chosen factions yet?
@the_infinitygamer he's gone ariadna and I've everything apart from combined and 0-12. Been a collector for a while.
@jonesyjones8465 hahaha wow well at least you have options!
Do you have this cheat sheet available?
Sorry I don’t think I do!
Cool video that has finally cured me out of Infinity... Too much of a technical game for my taste, and not bearing any legacy (as in not telling any story, besides the mission brief). I believe a little disclaimer is in order: I'm a die hard RPG player, that had just recently rediscovered his love for miniature gaming (after playing the s**t out of Mordheim back in the 90's) Correct me if I'm wrong on that, but there is no "campaign" mode in Infinity is there? It's just one of those "resource" based game (as in man fire power resource) is it?
You’re completely right. Every so often a global narrative will play but you’re right there isn’t a campaign options for infinity. Personally I thinks it’s a weakness of the game. I’d love to be playing out some of the great battles across the Human Sphere!
Damn. Was looking at getting into this game, but seeing how complex, even the code one version is... I don't think I'll bother. 😭
Code One is pretty simple. It’s just very different to other war games which are heavily turn based so it looks more complex than it actually is.
Trust me, you'll figure it out. It looks more complicated than it truly is. Most of the confusing stuff could be boiled down onto 1 cheat sheet.
You’re completely right
It is not that complex. If you ever played X-Com: Enemy Unknown/Within from Firaxis, you'd instinctively grasp most of the things.
@@stepanserdyuk4589 not played them sorry. But thanks for taking the time to reply.
Feels a little "gotcha"-ish. He's making a bunch of very sub-optimal choices...feels like you should have advised him more.
You’re probably right and while that wasn’t the best thing for a video that opponent loves 40k and the ‘gotcha’ elements there so I probably played to his style too much.
Shaaaassssvastiiiii....
Might have to dust them off a bit more often to be fair.
@@the_infinitygamer Waiting for my Beyond box to fill my roster.
You only really need camo tokens 😜
shouldn't the gamma be on fives? nope, bad at math.
Hahaha I’m not going to pass judgement as mine is atrocious!
can't understand what they are saying. such awful accents.
😂
