Considering jumping into Inifinity and this video has been a massive help understanding exactly where to start. Thank you!

Stumbled across infinity while cruising miniatures market for odd ball minis to paint. So glad I found your video as I had no idea where to start, like the code ones product description on there is just a blurb from the fluff legit did not understand what infinity was past 'minis game' till this video.
Great video! Keep up the good work!

Thanks for this video. I'm looking for my way into the hobby, but nobody really seems to be playing the game in my country. Luckily you have shown me that there is this starter box that contains enough minis so that I can invite a friend over and try to get them into the hobby as well (or if nobody bites then make a diorama out of the terrain and minis).

Sorry to hear that; trying to get people into a new game can be rough. The good news is that the game is really exciting, so people who try it tend to get hooked! Just FYI, the new starter set Operation: Blackwind goes on pre-order tomorrow (7/26/22). It is the same format as the last starter (terrain, minis, game mat), but features two different armies. If you prefer the current starter (Operation: Crimson Stone), be sure to pick it up soon before it goes out of print. The new armies exhibit more of the cyberpunk aesthetic Infinity is known for.

@@jtswargaming oooh I've got to look into that one as well then, although I liked both Ariadna and the Nomads based on the little intro Infinity provides on them. Then again, I think I could enjoy almost all of the factions in the game. Oh well, at least the family will have no problem figuring out what to buy me for Christmas for the next 10 years. :)

Man what a terrible time to be interested in Infinity Code One. I like the smaller footprint and model count. I finally decide to get Crimson Stone over Blackwind and I find out Code One is going away and instead there is going to be something called Essentials. I'm not sure what to do now?

    • @jtswargaming

Yea, you decided to hop in right before the new edition switch over. We don't have many details about Infinity Essentials yet, but I would assume CB will drop full details soon. From the teaser info that has come out already, it sounds like it will be similar to CodeOne, but with more intentional marketing to help people get from the stripped down version of the game into full Infinity. The marketing for N4/CodeOne was a little confusing for new players, which was why I made this video.
My personal recommendation is that if Crimson Stone tickles your fancy, don't be afraid to pick it up! Corvus Belli has been very good about making sure rules updates are backwards compatible with existing models (even models they don't sell anymore). The terrain in that set is pretty sweet too (and that specific skin is out of print). In the off chance the Crimson Stone units aren't usable in the new Infinity Essentials, they will be usable the full N5. Corvus Belli is also proxy friendly when you use their models at official events.
CB has also stated that the core mechanics aren't changing, so hopping in now will get you a head start on learning the game.

@@jtswargaming I heard that the save roll might be changing from high number to a low number like hitting. The new box set will have unit cards, and the factions are the breakaway Japanese and O12.

I’m in a similar boat, seems like a poor decision of press strategy to dribble out as a passing mention that “we’re killing this (already poorly understood) product distinction” with essentially zero explanation or assurances about the transition to Essentials…
What a way to nuke sales of CodeOne-labeled inventory for resellers for the last two months!
Either publish feel-good explainer about the transition, or don’t announce CodeOne/Essentials change at all until launch or when that writeup *is* otherwise press-ready. Thanks for helping me avoid the feel-bad of buying a product only to discover it’s discontinued two months later, I guess, but there needs to be a compatibility path of some sort and in the meantime I’m putting my wallet away, so not a great move.
I’m betting it’ll mostly be a change of branding/messaging and to packaging formats to make Essentials and N5 more clearly integrated as progression. But sure would be nice to hear that they have stuff like an army list migration assistant prepared for us.

This is a great onboarding video. Thanks for all the touch points. One area I have questions about...
What does the Corvus Belli hype cycle look like? are new releases mostly Kickstarters? do they have a newsletter that shows off new releases. I'm wondering what the Warhammer Community equivalent may be.

    • @jtswargaming
      @jtswargaming  Год назад +1

Thankfully the hype cycle is slower paced than some other companies. Big releases are timed to coincide with Adepticon, GenCon, or CB’s Interplanetario. Outside of that, there are a small number of monthly releases that usually build on the forces that received new battle packs at the previous convention. New releases always drop at the end of the month.
The best way to stay up to date with the product cycle is to subscribe to the CB RUclips channel. They do studio update videos every 1-2 months, and product reveal videos for the monthly releases.
They use Kickstarter for initial print runs of their new spin off products (mostly board games), but so far they haven’t ever run one specifically for the main Infinity game.

Either Gamenerdz.com, MiniatureMarket.com (happens to also be my FLGS), or Warsen.AL.
Miniature Market if I have to have it right away (they cost the most because I have to pay sales tax), Gamenerdz for the best general pricing, Warsen.AL typically has the best pre-order bundle pricing when new army boxes come out (they don't carry much regular stock though).
