I was tearing up this whole time seeing at how affectionate and sweet that little mango is, then me being introduced to buttercup and seeing him try to help her walk and saying “come on” literally made me start to cry, omfg the intelligence and sweetness
Birds are often looked at as throw away pets. People get them then throw them in a corner or a space and that's it forget about them. If they bite even worse for them cuz they never leave cage. Sad. Thank you for all you do for these small toddler brained beings. They are social and like little children who need so much love and patience. Not a animal for all people because they require much interaction.

I have a little Meyers with no feet and 1 wing is 1/2 gone. Her parents chewed off parts, probably by accident. She was given to me in 1992 - 29 years ago. I promised her little soul I would give her a good life. By time I got her at 3 or 4 months her stumps were healed over. She has special ramps in her cage to get around. Between me & her avian vet Dr. Nemitz she is enjoying a good long life. Bless Mango's human family for being so caring and giving her a great home.
Yeah your right and once my cousin sister bought a ringneck yet she didn't know anything about parrots, that parrot lived in capacity but my cousin sister didn't know anything about capacity parrots so she freed the parrot and after some couple hours i found my cousin sister's ringneck with his wings damaged because he lived in captivity he didn't know how to fly properly like the wild parrot.

He started out with normal-formed feet, and then they got progressively more deformed and harder to use as his condition progressed. Despite the pain and inconvenience his condition caused him, he slowly taught himself how to walk and do things in his own way - similiar to how Mango did - and completely adapted to his disability. He could walk, climb, fly and even run without trouble. He never gave up, and he perked up so much after he learned how to do things despite his condition. He was just so loving, resilient and strong.. never got mad at us or hurt us, even when we had to help clean and bathe him which he hated. I was and still am amazed at just how much fight this little bird had in him, despite being sick and fragile. He passed away in 2020 at 11 years old, and I‘ll never forget him and his unbreakable spirit. He taught me so, so much. I love you Tito, I‘m so blessed to have been your owner
One of my rats lost sensation in his tail for unknown reasons. The vet said he could live just fine with his unresponsive tail, and he never really enjoyed climibing so we all thought he would be juste fine, but a few months after he lost sensation he began chewing on his own tail to cut it. I had his tail amputated to avoid him cutting it and getting an infection. It changed his life, he was running more often without this dead weight. It's always frightening to have pets with such problem, but if they feel fine in the end, it's all that matters.
@@WEYffles well with a rat's tail it would be pretty easy to see.. it would most likely just drag behind them on the floor.. when a rat when walking normally lifts their tail slightly however if they can't lift it it becomes annoying and dead weight

Rats don't let their tail drag on the ground when they walk, they keep it quite high above the ground, so it is very noticeable. Also, I play with my rats and pet them everyday, and I could easily feel how unresponsive his tail was. But I am quite pissed with myself that I didn't ask to get his tail amputated before, I was trying to avoid unnecessary surgeries but I didn't realise that this one was needed.

It's better to leave such things and see how they do with the situation, and if they need some help, you know you didn't make a rash decision and looked at the hurdle with enough time to jump over it.
I rescued a white eyed conure from a pet store, His lower mandible was to the right of the upper beak it was too long and it was too close to his eye. I told them they had better get him to a vet. Went back a week later with a carry bag and asked how much did they want for him. I got him for $50 and took him. He was not very friendly when put in his cage. Having had birds before I gave him fruit and other goodies. I took him to the vet and had his beak trimmed. When I brought him home he ate and ate! I also had his wings clipped. I already had another parrot at home, yes another rescue. He was a white fronted speck amazon who was very happy to be with me. The amazon passed because of an infection that was not detected, I had him about 5 yrs. The conure finally made friends with me and lived for 28 yrs. He passed in 2016 and I miss him sooooo much. Thanks for the work y’all do.
What a terrific story. That brave little bird found a wonderful family to love her and care for her. The relationship between the birds and the couple is beyond heartwarming.

My friend is a professional bird breeder she gets requests saying that “ I want an exotic bird which I can show of but never take care of.” Please, you don’t want a bird you want a plant.
Yesterday someone asked me how easy it was to get my cockatoo (I've had him for 11.5 years). I didn't tell her it was easy (because it is too easy), I told her to do a bunch of research first to make sure she had the ability to take care of a parrot. People think parrots are cool because they're clearly very smart (but they don't understand the emotional needs of birds)... people that can barley take care of themselves shouldn't be taking care of non-human kids. Get a cat if you want a friend that takes care of itself 80% of the day.

more thought and consideration needs to be done BEFORE bringing a pet into your home. If not, many end up in kill shelters, strays and just discarded.
