- the engineering of the frame for this frame on this bike made working on it a bear. However with some muscle and a (thankfully) resilient flexible plastic air box cover, I was able to do it.
Every local mechanic quoted me ridiculous amounts to clean carbs, one guy said it'd be "$1,500 at least". Thanks man, I'll be doing this myself once my kit arrives.
i like your attitude man, cant find a vid make your own. just knowing someone else is going through this shit makes it easier for others to try. nice vid homie.
***** thanks! it was a lot of crossed fingers and learn as you go.
You actually remove the bottom section of the air box first, and replace in reverse order. It is very simple this way, trust me. ;)
I just did this for the first time on my 1984 v30 magna, and although it's been said before, you gotta pull out the center section of the air box first. There are two bolts on the left hand side of the frame that you can remove to drop a small piece of metal, and that will allow you to remove the center piece easily. Just two extra bolts and no hammer needed.

Any chance you could link a pic of those bolts?
This video saved my life last night.
I had an issue getting the top of the air box off all the way, ended up getting the air filter area pulled out sideways then the top of the air box off. Not only do we have the same bike, but that tackle box looks mighty similar to mine as well! Haha. Good video, thanks for sharing!
you slide the filter unit forward, and pull it out the left side. then you can easily remove the top without all that stress.
Thanks a lot brother for the video. This video is going to help out a lot in the future. 👍👍👌🏼👌🏼
THIS SHOULD BE STICKIED! Or added to your description... 1. Remove upper airbox bolts. 2. Lift upper airbox, remove CENTER SECTION with air filter. 3. Remove upper airbox. Takes about 3 minutes, and no banging on shit.
+True Reality That's what my thought was but there is no room to lift the top half off even 1/4 inch to get past the groove that holds them in place.
...and yet you mashed it out the end with a hammer without destroying it..
Lmao 😂🤣😂 that hammer... Thanks for the video
be real carefull to get the float height right before you remount the carbs as if you set to 7.3mm as the manual says they will flood into your cylinders. Best to rest them in the v space and connect them to the fuel supply and crank the motor till the fuel bowls are full. Check for leaks and check that fuel is not overflowing down the throat of the carb. That will save the hideous task of remounting again and again. I set my floats to 8mm.
helped me a shit ton thanks man
Thanks for the vid.. I have a 84 Honda Interceptor 700 that sat too long and the low speed jets are all clogged.. so I'll be doing pretty much the same thing except the airbox is simple due to the lack of the single frame tube.
I just bought this bike and I'm doing the same thing but also replacing 2nd gear and the counter. Any tips?
thank you for your time in doing this video.. going to attack my bike tomorrow :)
Do what ya gotta do!
Good job. Thanks
Next time slide the centre of the air box out first instead of beating on the top
before you take the air box lid off. take the middle piece out first. much much easer.
Do you know if this would be the same for a 1985 v45??
Big help just traded my shot gun for a 1985 v30 carbs are dirty bike sat for a year they need cleaning
U did a good job . I couldn't figure how to get the top off air box ... Then I found your video And I best the shit out of it.... If u can't remove the seat... That was pretty good... 🤣🤣🤣
I saw from your other vids that your in NY, I am too, can I email you about carb work? I might need a hand on mine.
Good video, I'm gonna try it on my v45, It seems like it relatively the same, did you post the installation of the carb?
Daniel Mason no I didn't. It's the same thing in reverse the only hard part was getting it to fit back in the rubber boots.
I have a honda sabre v65 i think it would be easier to drop the engine off the frame
Take out the middle part of the air cleaner first
Thanks for the video, Man :-) Did you ever post the video of you putting them back? Did it all work out okay?
Cliff Smith no I didn't, but it was easier than taking it apart.
Okay thanks.
Is putting it back in pretty much the same or is it harder?
I found putting it back easier. just do the same thing in reverse
Cleaning wise was it very hard? What materials did u need..gaskets floats etc?
I actually gave it to a buddy to clean out because he died it for a living. I gave him $50. I figured I could learn how but I'd just do it right.
nice job but made me cringe when you beat the shit out of your air filter box
Don't you own a hammer?
Dont DO it like that
No tenes ni idea de como se saca el filtro de aire!!! Saca este video que lo unico que logras es que la gente rompa su moto.
