Dude, I've just stumbled across your channel over the past week or so, what a fuckn breath of fresh air! Im a kiwi, lived in aussie on and off too. I can't tell you how great it is to hear an antipodean accent doing amp repair videos. I build amps as a hobbyist and play old 60s gear in a surf band. Amp repair videos are my go to to relax. I love that you're down to earth, great at what you do and have a laugh at the same time. Don't go changing, don't stop ranting and don't get too pc. Subscribed.

@@anthonycarrie8309 Sorry for the late reply, mate.
Flick me a message if you need anything, or just to talk about surf rock!
The Atlantics, The Shadows, The Ventures and Dick Dale are what got me into guitar, thanks to Dad!
And as a result, I'm a Strat man for life!
Although he never surfed, I think he found the surfers to be the best drinking and music listening buddies back in the 60's!

That grill cloth really brings out the beard. Nice amp and it’s in the right hands! 606 indicates Schumacher. Next digit is the second number of year. Last two digits indicate the week of manufacture. Super interesting with those caps.

I love your business model in considering preventative maintenance and your approach to the client's gracious instructions: 'Do unto it as if it were your own amp.' That is beautiful and a sign of trust and credibility. Amazing channel, thanks for the videos.

Regarding the rectifier tube, sometimes you can exhale a bit of air onto the glass of a tube, like grandpa used to do when cleaning his glasses, and make out the missing printing. That "M..." (is that a D or E after the M) stamped on the tube chart above the drawing of the 7025 suggests a manufacture date of mid-1963, but those aren't always correct. At least it supports a '63/'64 timeframe along with those tube codes. Just got to the part where you point out the "AA2063" on the chassis. Along with that "MD" or "ME" stamp on the tube chart I'd call it April/May 1963.
Extra holes and dings are part of the story of the amp. It came by all of that honestly so I like to leave that kind of stuff unless it needs to be repaired for structural/operational reasons, like installing a new handle. 🙂

I believe the speaker is decoded such that 137 designates CTS brand and 7220 decodes to the 20th week of 1972.

Ooh, a nice little brown Princeton. I actually do put class X ceramic death caps in my personal amps and in customer's amps upon special request. My house was wired well over 72 years ago, and I have TWO AM radio station towers near by (one of them is an enormous 4 tower array with added elements on the towers, and the other one is very very close to the house), so those death caps actually do reduce hum and RF noise. The single tower is being torn down now. The 4 tower array keeps gaining more and more crap on it. One of my customers has two 150,000 volt power transmission towers in his back yard, so he gets death caps and loads of extra copper & carbon shielding. He was running all over his house after I did his first guitar trying to find 15,30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105,, 120, 135, 150,165 & 180Hz hum. Big 6x 3 phase towers! They come from a power plant. You get all kinds of really weird harmonic nodes from those multiple parallel wired 3 phase towers. Old Germanium transistors liked to act like avalance diodes so we'd get KJJJ 910 AM Country on those, and with wah pedals we got both stations, 910 KHz and 1260 KHz AM.

@@vadenk4433 When I was still touring in the mid-'80s we used to play in a little town north of where I live that had an airforce base. Every minute or two the PA and amps would go "vvvvvtttt" as the radar swept in the direction of the club. Sometimes that would also be accompanied by the local taxi dispatch radio. "This is Spinal Tap" was more realistic than most people know LOL.

@@vadenk4433 Mom had the Willie Nelson Baldwin (Burns) Professional 2x12 solid state amp, and we'd get all that crying in your beer C&W music, and then "KJJJ 910AM Arizona's Country Music Station!". KHEP was literally a stone's throw across the highway and for a while that was KTUF AM Country, owned by Buck Owens. It was originally a born again Bible thumping Christian radio station called KHEP. It went back to that format for a while under Family Radio. There is a great story with "Family Radio". Their main preacher was 100% convinced that the world would end on a certain date and at a very specific time of day, TWICE.: The prediction was made by Harold Camping, the host of Family Radio's "Open Forum" television and radio show. Camping had previously predicted the end of the world in 1994, but that did not happen.
After the world did not end on October 21, 2011, Camping apologized and said he was wrong. He also said that he no longer believed anyone could know the exact time of the end of the world. Camping retired from Family Radio, but his daughter said he continued to work remotely.
Family Radio suffered a significant loss of assets, staff, and revenue after the failed prediction. >>>KHEP really fell into disrepair after that stunt.

Some notes on dating the amp:
The power transformer is the correct model Schumacher from the 7th week of 1963
The output transformer is the correct model Schumacher from the 38th week of 1962
The tube chart date code indicates 1963 (couldn't read the month code, you go by too fast)
The Astron multi-section cap looks like 28th week of 1962
Electrolytic Astron caps on the circuit board indicate the 43rd week of 1962
    Chassis number PO5753 indicates 1963
Taken all together, it looks like the amp that was put together in mid 1963 from parts they had in stock. Exactly what you'd expect from Fender in this era.
Also, the back "paint" on the diode solder joints is typical of Fender at this time. Not sure why they did this but you see it over and over again.

I'll leave you with some New England humor that should hit home for you ! In Connecticut we have an old saying that ribs our neighbors in the southern states... It’s really odd the filter caps are still there and yet the coupling caps were replaced. If the caps were yellow Astron caps were used these go quite leaky as you would know.

AWA made fantastic 12AX7s. I've had a handful of them (all pulls from amps serviced by a tech: customers wanted new valves), and they've all been very nice. Unfortunately most of the NOS ones were long since gobbled up by the audiophiles.
