I bring the review of a pair of Levi´s 501 150th anniversary edition. Also, I compared it with a pair of Levi´s 501 1947 made in Japan.
This is not sponsored. All garments are bought with my own money.

Should I go true to size on this and also, what’s your favorite 501 vintage jeans year?
I recommend sizing up in all STF. 1 sizes (normally, I wear 34 in Levi´s, but STF always buy 36 if you are going to soak the jeans). My list of LCVs is the top is 1947, followed by 1966, then 1954, and the last is 1955.
Update. To answer your question, I just soaked a pair of this edition in size 36 (I have recorded a video), and the results are very different to the LVC editions. To summarise, if you are between 34/36 or are true size 36, go for size 36; if you are true 34 or between 33/34, go for size 34. This edition is very roomy and of good quality, really worth the investment; now it is on sale.
Ps Diego, thanks for up loading. I enjoy your content and attention to detail when explaining measurements and fabrics.
Thank you Mate!!
I loved your review. To add, the back of the buttons on the fly being solid copper and custom stamped with 1873 - 2023 is both really tasteful and to me a very high quality material touch, such that only the wearer really sees it but it reassures that they didn't cut corners on these mid-priced (in my opinion $150 USD is about middle priced these days) raw jeans. I know some folks will say the selvedge is very flashy, but if you don't want to see it, you can always keep it inside without a cuff, but in my opinion its another touch that says they really wanted to go all out and provide a high value pair for specially Levi's 501 STF and denim enthusiasts. I am still not sure what the details of the denim are, but it seems like perhaps from the same sources in China as Red Tornado, and having many 11-16oz jeans, almost all of mine are, I can say these are most likely 14.5oz denim, they aren't as lightweight as 12oz or even 13oz, but still a very middle road medium weight with more heft and twill than any of Levi's 12oz denims I have. The cotton used became very fuzzy and hairy quickly and I think its almost sure they used a long staple Chinese grown cotton, probably Xinjiang province sourced, which has become very soft and hairy in only a moth of straight wear for me. These are to me, the Levi's Vintage quality without the exact specifics of any year model, rather the whole of 501 history reinterpreted into a single modern style of 501s. I do think hidden rivets would have been an even more interesting addition but isn't an issue for me in terms of the value, I find this choice to be more preference of the person wearing them wanting such a specific historical 501 feature. I'd prefer a cinch or even suspender buttons in more historical focused feature but both are very much not modern to most jeans now. For half the price of this year's LVC line offerings, I'd rather have two pairs of these than one of those. Again, thank you for your honest and thorough review!
Thank you for your insight 👍👍👏👏👏!!! The blue of these jeans is not the same as the Japanese selvedge denim, it is my thought that the denim is Chinese not only the construction, let's see how these jeans evolve over the time.
Hi, I read your comment about these jeans and got the impression they are pretty good. You sound like an expert. Did you get much shrinkage from your pair in the waist? I tried a pair on my true to size 32 and they were massive so ended up downsizing to 30 which fit perfectly (no wash yet). Also I’m surprised yours became fuzzy over 1 month of wear because mine smooth and ridged (no wear yet). Are fuzzy jeans a good thing? I thought Xinjiang cotton would be similar to Egyptian cotton, the high quality stuff. How does it compare with the expensive LVC in terms of quality? Sorry about all the questions, I’m new to the denim world. Would be good to hear more from someone with more knowledge.
@@duchamp1983 Hi !! to my experience, the shrinkage is not the same as in Levi´s VC; in the Japanese version, I need to size up, but with these jeans, I go true to size; I usually wear the jeans with no soaking for a 2 weeks or so, then I put in the washing machine in a cold cycle with low spin (the lowest) and works perfectly for me, and the shrinkage is there. Still, the impact is just right; of course, the inseam shrinks the same 2 inches usually.
The denim fabric tends to be softer after washing, which is normal and can be more evident on lightweight denim, but that is ok. I´m trying Chinese denim, and it is pretty good. Anyway, let´s see, in the long run.
bought one 2 months ago as my first stf levis and first levis pair long pants I bought by my own hard earned money. I got addicted to denims since then. Got an APC after a week by luck. Now my true to size and length just pops up with this same 15oth stf and was informed by the saleswomen in levis that it has arrived so picked it up today. Living in a country where there is no access to any stf even to all big brands except levis, I have no choice but to stick with this and used market for now. I like them though but the quality is yet to be known. I have 3 stf so it will take years to know as I will using them on rotation together with non stf 501s I have. I work 4 days a week and use a 511 provided pants so maybe a decade before I can attest to this specific stf quality.
Welcome to the club !! There are good cheap options in Selvedge, and don't rush to buy. Enjoy what you have developed fades
@@UrbanLadUK thanks Diego appreciate the video as it is one of the reason I start buying the 150th, I agree they are good looking. I like them very much and appreciated more when a more experienced denim head vouch for it or rather is positive towards buying it. Levis for me is a good investment and given its an anniversary token of a more than century old trusted brand which my people in my hometown including my dad and family grow to love. They say, a full suit of blue indigo denim combo of pants and denim jacket is called a canadian tuxedo but I grow up looking at it as rather the national clothes of Igorots of the Northern Philippines 🇵🇭. My people work as farmers and miners post American Colonization and was influenced hard by the american soldiers and Thomasites who sent to Ph during the American occupation of Philippines 🇵🇭. The Cordillerans mainly from the mountains of PH are like brown Americans and are fund of country music and jeans and cowboy things as opposed to the rest of the archipelago. Unfortunately I am working overseas in middle east so have no much access to other affordable stf. I had a pair of gifted levis but just started falling in love to the craze. Just turned 34 this 19th and marks my beginning of denim love. To be honest I was a bit skeptical of the attire my people use back then when I was young. I use to wear what the rest of PH way of get up rather than copy what my peers we’re wearing which are jeans when I was still younger. Now that I am middle adult, I think it fits me really well to wear my age. And yes, kids in my place wear 501’s if we have the opportunity to own one. Its just that my pebble mind doesn’t like wearing same clothes as my old man but now I’m mg old man. Cheers Diego. More power and God bless. Can’t wait to get to thrift stores and start my vintage collections when we move to US in Gods name.
Thanks for sharing your history!!!!! 👍👍👍👍
I like your reviews, because you're an honest reporter without 'denim' in the game. However, it's a little disconcerting when you compare washed jeans to raw shrink to fit. Perhaps you'll consider a final comparison post wash of the raw shrink to fit items you review?
Is coming a short video with an update post-wash of 501 150 and the Japanese version
I was wondering if the opening seam on the back pockets is chain stitched or single stitched? The jeans look nice, but other than being a special 150 year anniversary addition I remain unconvinced. It would have been nice for me if the inner seam was double felled instead of single felled; that would have been a game changer for me and would have even convinced me to buy. Anyway, nice tutorial and great explanation. Much appreciated.
The construction is not different from the regular 501, it is good, but there are no special details.
The good point is the denim they used, if you care about selvedge, that 130 dollars you can have quality of Japanese 501.
Thank you for your insight it is a good point!!!
Would like to know the exact designation of the Rinse of those 1947? A nice variation of the raw, and seems to fit true to size.
I need to check; later this weekend, I‘ll post the code
The Chinese can do anything; but the MIJ Levis denim is the best.
There is Chinese denim pushing to find its place in the denim world!!
thanks for sharing,I want to see after shrink what does it fit you
Thank you for watching!! It is on my list 👍👍
My experience is the 150th Jean did not shrink at all for me - I had to get rid of them just too big - I suggest buying your normal size
I agree, a video is coming with the results after soaking
They do shrink
@@nitinyadav6201, not much! If you are going to buy it, go for your usual size
not sure how the color and quality will hold up on the chinese but looks and feels very good, i saw it in store.
It looks very good quality, the only test of the time can tell us how good or how bad!!! The colour of the denim compared with the Japanese in washed is very different is less bright than the Japanese version
Very nice video. I wear W32 and L34. Should I go for bigger size due to the shrinkage? Can you make a short video on before and after the shrinkage?
Hi!! Before buying this pair, I have the same doubt. I have tried these jeans in-store, and I pick my normal size, 34/34. This Fit is a little loose in the waist, but my next size is too loose. I advise you not to size up. I recommend soaking in cold water as I do; I never soak or wash in warm water, and works for me.
I'll try to make a video about the shrinkage of this pair 👍👍👍
Thank you very much. I tried it on in the store. They fit loose in the waist. I will go for the true size and wash them only with cold water.
@@UrbanLadUK you soak yourself with jeans on in cold water? maybe in the summer:D
Nope. I tell you my
Method: wear until the break-in (to me is when the waist has stretched), then I wash it (inside out) with Woolite in the washing machine in a cycle of 20 degrees for cotton, spin < 600.
Or if new and want to rid of the starch, just put in the washing machine without any soap in cotton 20 degrees cycle.
This for me works perfect and has no impact in the fades,👍👍
if u get the LVC STF 1947 the fit is on a whole different level. and also you get a more custom fit as it breaks in the washed LVC stuff im not a big fan of
Not everyone is happy with the fitting of the 1947; personally, I really liked 👍👍
What's the fabric composition of both the jeans you compare and is it comfortable to wear and what's its breakin time??
Hi!! Fabric is 100% cotton of both, and both are very comfortable from the start, even the raw version because the denim is not heavy. After wash are very comfy both. Shrinking is 1 inch in the waist but stretch back
Since the Chinese firm took the brand on their own, they screw it the quality
They're a bit baggy when I tried them on.
Remember are STF, after the soaking fit much better 😉
Hello! What is the difference between these and the regular 501 shrink to fits? Is the quality higher on the 150? Hows the cotton?
The main difference that are made in China, this made the size different, but the denim is from Kihara Mills, Levi’s state that the shrinkage is the same, as example the size 34 is larger in the waist than the STF from Japan
The cotton: I can not find the origin but Kihara sources from different countries my guest is Brazil for the 150th anniversary
@@UrbanLadUK, what is the 150 anniversary denim Weight you reckon?
@@duchamp1983 Between 12.5oz and 13oz
Nice review! just one question sir, does the chinese made will fade? Tia
Hi, These jeans are going to fade.
Que talla son? En donde se consiguen?
Hola!!
Firstly, for me personally Levi's are to short and tight on me in thigh and length. The rise is also wrong for my body type. I love the look of the early cinch back levi jeans, but I'm not sure they measure up to Japanese models of a levi Type.
My impression is that the japanese levi´s 501 in meassuraments are addressed to the japanese market, that why is not easy to pull out a pair even though they say that the model is faithful to the 1947 paterns.
@@UrbanLadUK I was more thinking of the Sugar cane, and TCB Levi look a like types. I've never been able to wear 501's they just don't fit me right.
I don´t know your waist size. Sugar Cane has the bigger size 40; I wear 38, which is after stretching is a real 38 inches, and you can have good space in the top block and legs, which is usually my recommendation for people with a good build in the legs or top block.
I have in production a video comparing Sugar Cane 1947 vs Levis 501 unwashed 1947.
@UrbanLadUK I'm same waist as you, and because I did lots of heavy weights when I was younger, I need a larger type thigh and top block( rear back rise). I have looked at sugar cane before. I may have to do a more detailed look re their sizing. Thanks.
i love you diego
Thank you, mate!!!
nuclear vid on nuclear 501
👍👍👍👍👍👍
can this be gotten in a larger number if i like slightly looser fit?
In my case, I tried in store 36/34 and was too loose, seems like have big difference between sizes in terms of measurement 👍👍
anybetter options for that price from other brands or levis?
Lee has a solid Japanese selvedge line (Lee 101) and is affordable. Uniqlo is another option and GAP ( I think they don't offer it anymore selvedge). Naked and Famous, Edwin, Brave Star.
what ounce would the pair from back then be and what ounce is the 150 new edition?
In theory both have the same weight. 12.25oz
cold water meaning 30 degree?
Cold water is you use a washing machine is 20 degrees or the temperature of the cold tap water 👍👍
1947 seems thin, less ounce, i dislike thin jeans
Is 12oz washed that's why looks thinner
