    So creative, i've been struggling with depression and motivation. Watching videos like these absolutely blows me away that with motivation, knowledge, and time you can accomplish pretty much anything. I appreciate the time you put into making this video Keith, really helps people like me out.

      Thanks for the note. Get back into it. I've found that re-motivating myself often involves lowering my standards to de-intimidate my mind about the project at hand. As motivation increases, so do my standards. Then burnout. It's a cycle. Burnout usually involves setting my standards too high for that season of life.

    I like how you didnt pause your video to ask me to subscribe. You used subtle hints like the White boards and Clipboard. Packed all throughout your video. I feel like this was such a great way to handle that. Lately i find myself watching a bunch of youtube videos and skipping through the first minte and a half because they beg for subscribers. I don't subscribe to them (even if i watch them every singe day , simply out of principle ... A subscriber is earned ... not requested)
    Amazing video content as well. I have a nice desk and it fits my needs. But watching you custom build a desk to fit your need for both work and hobby , well it was somewhat inspring. Maybe i can fix the little quirks i face with my setup with some time and ingenuity.

    After machining, surfacing and sanding cherry, do you suppose the suntan could practically be hastened by exposure to a UV light source before finishing? I've got a "vintage" UV generator once used to speed the cure of UV finishes and I'd like not to scrap it for the copper.

    • @KeithsTestGarage
      @KeithsTestGarage  2 года назад

      Somewhere on my IG I have a pic of giving it a try, however my UV light is smallish and the results were hardly visible after a day, which probably wasn’t long enough. If you’ve got a decently powerful light give it a try and let me know how it works!

  • @kennuimuffins2426
    @kennuimuffins2426 2 года назад

    This is such a great idea that could be expanded on. I really want to start a desk company some day because no one around really goes that 'crazy' with setups. Most have basic legs and some have a decent selection of tops, maybe some cable management stuff. Very basic.
    So how would I expand on it? I would design a simple cover so the top can be flush, perhaps secured from a tension release mechanism (accessed from below). Or accessed from above if you don't want it flush. It could be used for adding platforms or small shelves, easily taken apart.
    For that I would want some kind of tension or locking mechanism though.
    At the moment I use poles and super clamps, it's really quite ugly if you're looking directly at them. My main room light is actually set up this way, with a light shining upwards so it reflects as very soft light.

    • @KeithsTestGarage
      @KeithsTestGarage  4 года назад

      I'm pretty sure they won't as long as 1) you're not using mechanical HDDs near them, and 2) the magnets aren't moving. Don't take my word for it though. I'd be interested to hear ElectroBoom's take. Here's a quick MakeUseOf finding on the matter (they say magnets are safe near SD cards): www.makeuseof.com/tag/can-magnets-ruin-an-sd-card-6-common-reasons-why-you-cant-use-your-sd-card/

    5+ months in, anything you'd change? Any problem with wobble forward and backward or laterally?

    • @KeithsTestGarage
      @KeithsTestGarage  3 года назад +1

      Yes one notable change. I beefed up the back by screwing a strip of hard maple underneath. That reduced monitor wobble considerably.
      But my cherry top is only about 3/4 thick. If you were doing 1” thick oak you probably wouldn’t need to study it up.
      Also I added upside down power cubes (with USB) under each side, halfway to the front, so I could quickly plug in a fan or whatever the day called for. I’ll find a link and reply with it.

    • @KeithsTestGarage
      @KeithsTestGarage  2 года назад +1

      If you can afford a nicer stand I’d recommend getting something nicer. But, answers: In sitting position, no. But in standing position yes. A couple things: 1) spreading the legs out a bit helps prevent side to side wobble. (As in, when it’s up, I pull the bottom of the right leg a bit further right.) 2) the monitor arm amplifies the wobble but only in standing position. I was highly annoyed at first but have actually gotten used to it. If you can afford a better quality stand I’d recommend finding something else.

    You don't buy sticks you buy bars and if it's shorter and smaller diameter it's a rod . It's not wood

      You probably have a point, but my dilemma is that bars are also dessert to eat and places to drink and exams that lawyers take and vertical lines on a musical staff. We need more words.

    Dear, Working with a powertool when your son or toddler is nearby is a bad idea. Iron splatter would damage his/her eye. I am a safety professional. Your work is nice but you must take care of Safety. Safety first - now and always.

      That makes at least two of us who value safety. Great thing about these portable bandsaws is that they slowly drop chips downward, rather than fling them everywhere like an angle grinder.
