From a Brown alumna: Shaggy, as you probably saw, the graduation at Brown is an event like no other, and we alumni were profoundly saddened that the COVID-era students didn't get their ceremony as planned. Thank you for giving the class of 2020 a wonderful set of memories to make up for their missed celebration; more college graduations need people dancing in the aisles! It's another of the gifts you have given.
I was there! Shaggy had everyone laughing, in tears of joy, and was SOOO inspirational!!! So down to earth!! Everyone was so happy he was Brown’s Class of 2020 speaker!! I thank Shaggy for his presence and words of wisdom!!

I sat and the tears were falling down my cheeks, why joy as I listened to his journey ,being honored to do the commencement address at one of America’s most prestigious Ivy-league colleges and last but not least he is Jamaica. Regardless of negative press, Jamaica is a great nation, greater than many so called developed nations in may ways. Jamaicans have impacted the world with it’s music,sports,food, technical skills ,assertiveness and motivation. Not to leave our our global approach to education and the quality of our curriculum. We have not achieved 98% literacy rate, but our education is solid. Jamaicans are geniuses in most aspects. I had the pleasure of meeting Shaggy at his mother Veronica’s home in Melbourne about 13 years ago. Congratulations Dr. Shaggy for being a motivator and inspiration not only to young Jamaicans, but to all young people. You have demonstrated, that it’s not about being born with gold spoon in the mouth but determination, honesty and using the talents which God has given each of us; do not bury those talents
