  • More of rant than a review of the Rugged Radios GMR-2. I do not recommend. It is overpriced and under performs what other nearly identical radios can do for half the price.

Do you make a pouch for a Baofeng UV 9R PRO? Looking for a pouch for my shoulder strap on my 4point harness in my sxs

Thanks! You just saved me from spending money on the wrong piece of gear. I literally had them in my cart on their website. Getting the set of the Radioddity GM-30's instead for less than the Rigged hot summer sale.

What about Rocky Talkie? Specifically the 5 Watt GMRS Model

Okay so I’m one of the off-road guys that just needs to talk to 2-8 trucks in our group on the trail. I don’t know anything about radios other then to hold the button to talk. We all currently have the baofeng UV-5R. But half our radios barely work and we can’t hear each other. And we’re always within 100 yards of each other. I was about to buy the rugged radios but because of the reasons you said in your video I’m not. Now I’m confused on what we should get. What radio or brand do you recommend us getting. Thank you for your help.

When it comes to GMRS, Wouxun is the best brand in the game. And the KG-935G is their best GMRS handheld. That is my #1 recommendation. I have a couple videos on that radio here on this channel.

I got one of those radius and I hit the repeater like 19 miles away with no problem. Thank you for the video.

I’m a Jeep guy and have their GRMS Mobil and one of these GMR2. Mine however lets me change the antenna. I have no knowledge of the radio world, I turn it on and switch the channel and speak into the mic. Just happy it works for short range and is rechargeable. 😂 I do have a midland in my other rig. I will say that Rugged’s headset intercom is pretty cool and sounds great.

This man is speaking the truth. Rugged is a “cool” company or whatever but there is a lot of room for improving the tech, and especially the way the radio is built I feel like they could do a lot more with a better genuinely unique design.

I'm a jeeper that has my general class Ham license and my GMRS license. You're pretty correct about off-roaders not knowing about much about radio overall. Thankfully my club is at least buying midlands... Decent quality stuff in my experience.

at the Overland Expo for 4x4 offroad and camping shows, that's who is there, Rugged Radio and Midland.
there is a Ham Radio youtuber who is trying to get those Overland Expo shows to have Ham Radio manufacturers there because there are a lot of offroaders who use Ham Radios.

If I was running a radio company I would definitely be marketing to the outdoor market. Unfortunately, most radio companies are completely clueless about the US market. Lots of cash being left on the table for Rugged and MIdland. Both of which have excellent marketing machines pushing marginal radios. A real shame.

@@KS6DAY yeah and Hamfest is a bigger market for them, probably why they don't go.

Bakersfield here.. someone gave me 2 of these GMR2s. At least I can Receive on it. Time for a GMRS license and a better radio. I have a Tech license KN6VVJ but not connecting much..

Good ole C.B. no license, very simple, easy to use. Just turn on, set channel, and talk. No electronic theories, ham license test, no FCC monitor, and no cost for GMRS license. Great for non repeater talk.

Papa Oscar Sierra! A Jeep guy I know bought that HT and the Rugged Mobile...After programming them, I confirmed what a poor choice he made. I think that Rugged is gun shy after getting spanked by the FCC after their initial offerings. BTW, my Radioddity GM30 only TX 2.2 watts...no bueno

I have the UV-K5 and sending back. It has lots of neat features and would have loved to keep but the sound quality is terrible. They should have spent a few $ more on a decent speaker.

If its like any of their past stuff its rebranded baofengs and tyts at 3x markup. But they were catering to an audience

Can I talk to truckers with this thing and do I need a license to use it

    • @EyebrowsMahoney
      @EyebrowsMahoney 4 месяца назад

      No. Yes.
Truckers use CBs. You need a CB Radio to talk to trucks. CBs do not require a license.
Because the radio in the video is a GMRS radio, it operates on GMRS rules, which requires a license to operate. The fee is $35.00 and does not require a test. It lasts 10 years and covers you and your IMMEDIATE family (not friends).
