    PSA: The voice lines and AI have been updated significantly with the release of WARNO, this was recorded in early access.

      They designed this game to be unwinnable. The unlimited arty. Their arty aiming is ridiculous. My 109's cant even move before being saturated by Rockets. I destroyed 3 arty early on and it never stops. I think I have to learn how to be more maneuvarable. But all those ATGMs are super accurate

    Counter point to some comments here: I like the AI Arty spam! It's realistic for a soviet force doing this and poses a real dynamic threat!

      Even right now in Ukraine, Russia is using 10-15k artillery shells per DAY.

      and also i think you really have to keep up with counterbattery yourselves because you just cant tank through it anymore which makes it also a nice challenge. Per example that rocket arty was in the same spot almost the entire match

      @icool6905 Well the reason is that they're East German for one, but for two they are using mostly T-55s from 1958 while the Americans are using M1a1s from 1986 which is not a fair fight.

    To me, it is unrealistic that the 11th did not have any pre-build defensive lines. Not in like bunkers, but if you hav to delay an enemy force far greater in numbers than your own, you let the enemy run on multiple pre defined contact lines, so their units take attrition. You should be able to deploy your units at least on 1/3rd of the map from your edge. That would make this a pre defined contact line for delaying the first push from this direction.
    Delaying Battles are the most trained thing from the Bundeswehr, but other NATO forces do have knowledge about delaying.

      That is, if I understand it correctly, how it worked historically. Pre planned contact lines that would be retreated to upon a pre set percentage of casualties being taken (or, I suppose, the line being compromised elsewhere). They may not have done much in the way of bunkers, but roadblocks, pre planned fire lanes and hull down positions would have all been included. This is without mentioning pre ranged fire plans and the like, and probably a bunch of mines. (even if mines aren't laid initially, I suspect a bunch of artillery deployed mines would be quickly used).
      The idea that it would be a totally unprepared meeting engagement, even against some out of the blue attack, is nonsense.

    The t55s being able to tank 1 abrams hit is brutal when the red blobs are closing in raining ATGMs. Plus this map doesnt have multiple places to manage the ATGM sight lines that you wont just get nuked out of by arty. Designed to be a hectic struggle

    I absolutely love the fact that the same guy who did the voiceovers in these campaign introductions in Wargame European Escalation is still doing them here. His voice just seems perfect in these, although maybe I am partial to it because I'm used to his voice or maybe just pure nostalgia.

    Been really looking forward to some campaigns in this! I find competitive multiplayer more and more unappealing the older I get, and I worked through most of the scenarios already!

      RTS has always been my favorite, I prefer single player. PVE in Rise of Nations was the shit though.

    They brought the same intro cutscene mechanics from their Wargame series into this one, it honesty feels like this is a new Wargame.

    This is great. The only thing I hope is that they create maps for every new Army Generals that goes with them. Cause honestly, the lack of map and the constant enemy artillery is what makes me not play AG in Steel Division II.

    That battle was brutal. There must have been huge amounts of scrap metal on the battlefield at the end.

    I feels like the AI cheats in this game, you saw a good example of this at 10:15 where an enemy vehicle just randomly bee lines for the location of the scout unit and I also saw a case in my game where the enemy wasn't deploying it's airforce in one battle then the moment I moved my AA guns away, which were hidden, they sent every single plane they had like they knew the skies were clear

      AI always cheats in every game.

      They do cheat, they don't follow "fog of war" rules so they can see every unit in the map (even when developers say otherwise). It's the same in almost every RTS. They AI knows the units you're bringing in so they will pick their counters. However the average human player can overcome this and win the game because the AI doesn't know how to spend their resources very well, they're faster but they don't use any strategy other than rushing the less defended position when posible (and they know where that is). For example I remember Company of Heroes AI would ignore players' heavily defended positions even without prior scouting, they don't need it cause they know. The only AI I enjoy playing against is Age of Empires 2 AI (modded too), it's not perfect but you don't feel they know everything about you. Also Supreme Commander's AI, modded too.

      @@crasheba1533 I suppose it’s all the developers can do as you either have the AI follow predicted patterns like we saw in Red Dragon where AI would just stick to roads going to the capture points or they let the AI see exactly what you are doing so it can create artificial difficulty
      Because we’re some way off an RTS AI which can do long term planning such as sneaking units around or setting up ambushes to spring 30 minutes later in a battle
      I’d tolerate the cheating AI in this if not for the fact it has no checks on it simply using incendiary artillery spam to keep hitting your hidden units

      ​@@Hellstorm901 I don't mind AI cheating resources or ignoring Fog of War, to compensate for the lack of judgment. But I hate when I watch my replays and I see the AI flanking my most vulnerable position right away with massive amounts of units without prior scouting, it's impossible to counter that, it's like it doesn't send scouts first to make it look believable. It's even worse in Steel Division 2 where the maps are huge and you can't cover every piece of land with many units. That really kills the immersion. One Medium AI can be tough for new players but once you learned to counter this "strategy" then even the hardest difficulties are easy... once you survived the first blob you're set to win, maybe you'll spend the game defending just one objective, which will be the less defended (of course) while the AI won't bother to send the ocasional 2 or 3 units per minute to the other heavily defended positions only to be obliterated. Just don't leave a flank open without a single unit watching the movements because the AI WILL abuse this side, it will flank you and encircle you. Actually that's the only strategy they use at all.

      There's no point on playing against the AI like you would do on multiplayer, since the AI doesn't play like a regular player. People that aren't used to PVE (mostly PVP players) find the AI somehow better than the ocasional player that just dropped the game, but that's only because the AI plays differently and sends the right counter to the objective it wants to attack, the hardest AI has around "180 seconds of memory" says the developer, so just 1 random unit/scout can retain your units types, info and positions for 2 minutes... and ofc all the other tricks you know and noticed before. So it doesn't need any build order or group composition, it just kinda roughly mirrors the player (in a very limited way)...

    For me personally, warno is vastly superior in terms of UI and visuals compared to broken arrow. The sound design is also super good. Gameplay wise it is more fast paced but this in turn rewards good gameplay more.

      WARNO needs a more "boomy" sound design like BA. I also feel like the doppler calculations are off. If they fix those, it will sound NICE. It already looks better

    Good tip is to put recon m1a1 to set up position in the forward bushes quicker as they can be deployed ahead. Also the recon jeeps cost 0 can be deployed in the side and have them drive around and spot artillary in the right side north in bushes

    I found that mixing in Bradley CFV´s with their TOW helps to deal with T-55 ATGM tanks. They can take them on at better ranges.

    I hope they add some basic digging-in, similar to SD2. Wouldn't expect to have time to dig bunkers or anything, but a NATO troopaloop worth his salt should be able to dig a foxhole in a few hours.

    After watching a few videos on AG it really looks like the AI is much better know? I mean, the arty usage, the RKT plane picking on the Bradleys. Impressive. WIll this affect the AI on Skirmish as well?

      Protoss mentioned they've been working on it, so it should do. The Discord has an AI feedback channel and you can see they are working on slowly boosting it's ability

    It's almost like you have never heard of combined arms combat. All Abrams with a small bit of recon.
    In the very beginning you shoukd have put a couple mortars behind the hills on left, with a couple scouts on the hill with orders not to fire would have done wonders for the left flank.
    You knew that the enemy had air cover, a single aa unit in the center would have paid for itself.

    You know what's kinda funny, you could kinda see this campaign as taking place within the same world as World in Conflict's storyline. Germany turns into a meatgrinder when NATO halts the Soviet offensive.

    The AI are actually being smart, they're using rocket barrages to soften up your hardpoints and are ATGM flank 'n spanking your Abrams.
    Edit: Is it possible for your M109 Paladins to do counter battery against those BM-21's?

      Potentially could have tried to counter battery but the likelyhood is they would move after firing. They might not but not sure how the AI works in that regard yet.

      Counter arty works but they do also counter your counter arty at the same time

    Crazy, so much arty... can't remember, can units fire on the move with all these stabilizers? I think in wargame they could. Now they stop... by the way, great defence by Vulcan, and, indeed, nice visuals from arty, Michael Bay style :D

      Stablizers means that units can fire while moving. They suffer an accuracy penalty, though. ;)

      That would involve different technologies that would not be applicable to the rest of WARNO. Once all those technologies are added you essentially got a different game.

    Well this should be a interesting show of force. Germans Vs German caught in the middle of the Nato Vs Soviet Conflict.
    Edit: GOOD GOD THAT FIRST BATTLE! The STEEL WALL OF FREEDOM blunting an Armored/Mechanized push from the West Germans. A FIELD of Dead T55s and BMPs. ONLY lossing 43 points of units too! (probably like 6 M1A1s plus the other vehicles)

    That was painful to watch. Not sure if its the difficulty or your constant movement out of prime positions, causing accuracy and spotting issues, but damn. glad you pulled it off, even despite the constant MLRS fire and insanely rapid movement.

      M1A1 have almost perfect stabiliser, still like 60% on the move with the veterancy they have which is more than enough. Pulling out of positions where I might potentially be outflanked or have units close range is also important. There are times when my tanks suffered due to the sheer number of ATGMs but ultimately I didn't want to be static and play for the win by conquest initially until I realised that wasn't possible.

    Arty could have helped here, you had a few larger ones so could have attacked their missile trucks

    Are all that AI artillery coming in from actual deployed units or just "off-map" (even though I don't believe Warno has any off-map artillery)?

    Kind of fun to watch though the repairs are really unrealistic. The computer does a very bad job in general even on hard. It would be challenging if repairing was much slower or extremely limited

    Good video. But you cut it real close at the opening stages by not swinging your four Abrams on the left sooner to rush the town crossroads the moment you saw the whole Soviet conga train turn up. Artillery looks brutal in Warno, definitely different from WGRD where you can turtle and tank without much trouble or suppressive arty fire. Maneouvre warfare looks to be the name of the play for sure.

    i dont understand the AI in my game was WAY more intelligent than in you'r it did pack or rushed into me it was testing my defences and sending tanks at the right moment after arty strike (i was on hard too
