My family and I walked the trail back in 99. My son was only 6 months old so I carried him on my back. Though it was a little rough on the older folks it still remains one of our favorite moments. Went back 3 years ago only to find it closed. Oh well, maybe someday.

Nice to know CRP still has Trail Walkers. Yes, this storm was the remnant of a Hurricane that came through in 2003--can't remember the name--it was beautiful--and dangerous. Sad to hear the Skyline-Clifftrail loop is closed--but I suppose that is a sign of our litigious times--I wonder if we will ever walk it again... I think the storm you are thinking about is the flood of 1996--I was there for that one also and it was several magnitudes bigger than this one...very scary but awesome!

So the website says that the cliff trail is closed ... is this basically the trail everyone wants to see and take? The one along the cliff walls and beautifully seen in Last of the Mohicans? :( I'm going to be there this weekend and just was saddened it was closed. Wasn't sure what we'll see now.

No photos--sorry. Yes there are several cliffs on the south side of the mountain. They are beautiful but very remote and VERY dangerous. When I worked in the park we tried to get the management at the time to follow our recommendation to build a hiking/nature trail system in that area to allow park visitors to view the beauty of the other side of the mountain...sadly, they didn't go for it. The age old case of too many chiefs and not enough Indians.

Do yall have any Photos of the backside of the mountain?I talked with a gentleman a couple of days ago and he told me that there is a sheer cliff on the nonpublic side.
