      Any video where an adult is singing about love surrounded by school kids kind of gives me the eebie jeebies. Liked the song back then, hated the video. LOL. I think maybe Joan Jett and the Blackhearts may be more up your alley for exploring 80s female singers.

    love the song but the video brings back sooooo many memories. Where it was shot I worked and lived there- my first every teaching job was there. It used be called the American University in Bushey (England) but I worked/lived there way after this video was shot- it was once entitled the most haunted place in England and damn at night it was totally scary.

  • @kilgh

    Tyler's voice is interesting because she has natural vocal nodes but chose to not risk surgery but to sing with them instead. And she is Welsh which adds to it. 80s videos though...

      @@drakulkacz6489 Nope. Jim Steinman, the writer and composer (also Meat Loaf's) included “Total Eclipse of the Heart” in his composition for the 1997 musical Dance of the Vampires. This is supposed to be a boy's school full of vampire boys. Which explains both why she's always running around in it seeming to look for a place to pee (thank you Literal Video version) and the way the boys' eyes light up at the end of the video. It's doesn't explain the gymnasts, the fencers, or half the other crazy stuff in this video though.

    All videos were pretty weird in the early 80s MTV era. It was new, tech was new, and lyrics were taken literally. Hence “bright eyes.” People were just mashing up images together. Great song though!

  • @robertcartier5088
    @robertcartier5088 3 года назад +1

    MTV was just starting out when this came along.
    Musical mini movies of songs or the stories of songs were not new, but 'video' was, It was easier and cheaper to be creative.
    Almost every new song had to have a video now, and a separate artform was born. This has an experimental, gothic vibe that is pretty weird on first viewing. It grows on you if only for its quirkiness. For a good laugh, you should see, even on your own time, a literal version of this song. It's on RUclips... (use the song name and the word 'literal') Anyway, they overdubbed another talented singer's voice over Bonnie's, but the new voice, instead of singing the lyrics, is literally describing what's onscreen. It's hilarious! I promise it'll kill the creepiness factor! lol

    I love this song, and Stand Back - both on the Rock side, but edgy enough for me.

    The composer/writer of this song had envisioned it involving a vampire. Years later he composed an entire musical around it called "Tans der vampire". It was originally written in German and the original stage production in Germany is available to watch on RUclips. Also, available with subtitles. I watched different versions and my favorite is the original cast starring Steve Barton as the main vampire. (Musical lovers will recognize him as the original Raole from Phatom of the Opera.) The musical was not as successful in the US because they changed it claiming the US audience would not like such a political production. The jist is that the vampires are the rich sucking the life of the people. And there are funny parts. Do not watch the US version, I did and they ruined it.

    I am dying to hear you react to Leon Bridges - Coming Home. He a newer, young soul singer with an old-school swag.
