FYI - Wu are the originators. They come from an era and mindset when biting was the worst thing an MC could do. Anything you’ve heard that sounds like RZA beats or Wu lyrics is biting off them, not the other way around.

Wu Tang clan is a 9 member crew
The RZA (who also acts and produced all of their music) is the leader and made the crew from Staten Island. They were heavily influenced by Kung Fu flicks from the 70's. The purpose of the clan was to give all 9 members their own record solo deals. Everyone that you hear now that these guys sound like copied them. Not the other way around

Wu Tang is named after the Wudang warriors in the Wudang mountains, kind of a counterpart to the Shaolin warriors from the Shaolin members. They are both often big players and sometimes rivals in old Wuxia movies, Chinese action movies literally meaning "Martial Heroes." They were inspired by Wuxia movies and to a slightly lesser extent Chanbara movies, old Japanese Samurai/Sword action movies.
Shaolin irl is where both Gung-Fu (Kung-Fu) and Zen Buddhism were founded. A buddhist monk from India migrated to China and taught the people there his ways, and it invented the Zen sect of the buddhist religion. Gung-Fu was actually invented as a way for the monks to become fit after they noticed hours of meditating left their bodies too weak, which conversely made meditation harder. Hence the invention of Warrior Monks, they were a major player in Chinese wars, nowadays they're still highly political but not nearly as relevant to actual conflicts anymore.

the first rapper (Raekwon) said "smoking Woos at 16", Woolies (or wu's, woo's) are blunts of weed mixed with coke (or crack), a lot of the. members, including Method Man, had drug problems, including coke, crack and angel dust..
10 members, one deceased (old dirty bastard), Masta Killa, U-God, Inspectah Deck (my favorite rapper ever) Raekwon, Ghostface Killa, Cappadonna (official member in 2000 something), Method Man, GZA and RZA..
Funny how you called Raekwon an average rapper.. Wu tang is KNOWN for HEAVY vocabulary use and complicated metaphors and simlies as well as crazy slang talk, ....
also its funny you said they sounded like OTHER rappers at that time, Wu Tangs whole LEGACY is that they were EXTREMELY DIFFERENT than ALL THE OTHER RAP groups at that time and they actually INFLUENCED many rappers that came AFTER.. this is common knowledge and you can watch numerous documentaries and read countless articles on this FACT..
Method Man is an actor too
Wu Tang Clan comes from the groups love of 70s kung fu flicks, they incorporated samples from the movies in their music, hence the being different then everyone else lol...
In NYC, Rikers Island has a section for minors, so a 15 year old CAN be in jail, just not the big man jail..
    Cess is weed for me..
Yea wu differantiated themselves by incorporating heavy NYC (particularly Staten Island and Brooklyn) slang.. Hearing them was a more GENUINE look into the hood then what OTHER rappers portrayed.. .. .. .. .. .. .
lol Old Earth is mother.. like Mother Earth.. Father is the Sun I believe.. gotta think outside the box when listening to the likes of Wu Tang, for sure they are NOT FORE EVERYONE.. a very.. esoteric taste... thats why its MY FAVORITE type of hip hop!....
Wu tang has over a hundred affiliates and most of their songs are hand banging type of songs (check out Protect ya Neck or Mystery of ChessBoxin or 4th Chamber or Wu Gambinoes) and they share a similar fanbase to Insane Clown Posse, have a song with them AND rage against the machine (and did a tour wit them) AND a song with System of the Down..

WuTang is heavy with slang. Going as far creating a ton of their own mixing kung fu, mafia and 5percenter references.
Woolies were what they called laced blunts.
In the early 90s the best Marijuana on the east coast was seedless crops from Mexico marketed as "sin semilla" aka seedless mistranslated on the streets as "sesamiya" later shortened to "Ses"
Similarly on the Westcoast whiteboys were growing "hydroponics" mistranslated to "hydrochronic" and later shortened to "the chronic"
The "old earth" is another word for mother. Its 5 percenter terminology a nation of Islam type religion that was born in Harlem basically they refer to black men as God's and Black Women as Earths.

Listen to “Nowhere to Run, Nowhere to Hide” by Gravediggaz. It’s a side project of RZA, the producer and one of the rappers in Wu-tang. He didn’t actually produce that song but he has some really good verses

Wu Tang is notorious for their slang and style and a lot of other rappers have “borrowed” from them which is why you think Raekwon sounds familiar. Woolies is coke/crack mixed with weed. Bones is cigarettes. Old Earth is someone’s mother. Traditionally Wu Tang Clan is made up of 9 core members. The name is derived from old Kung Fu movies and members have stated that the W stands for “witty” and the U stands for “unpredictable”

wu TANG is actually a mistranslation. Its supposed to be wuDANG. When they were dubbing the old kung fu flicks they changed wuDANG to wuTang. Wudang is a mountain where the munks would practice taoism and kungfu.

A lot of rappers copied their style they originated a lot of things and became very big in the rock scene as well and did a whole tour with Rage Against The Machine. Wu Tang Clan is a name that they got from the old kung fu movies they used to watch, SPECIFICALLY Shaolin VS The Wu Tang. A lot of them got their names from the movies as well. Also kids can be tried as adults.

Raekwon is his actual last name. They send you to Jail if your conviction is under a year. They send you to prison if you get 366 days or longer. Depending on the severity of your crime they may try you as an adult which will get you sent to jail not juvi.

I think the biggest take from this reaction is you guys just got to understand the language. Cuz Wu-Tang speak street slang but also 5 percenter lingo. They're God body, so they take on Muslim way of living. So once you understand the language everything else just come to you.
