  • As you may know, if you've been in the market for a headboard, they can be very pricey! Well!!! Why not make your own? Which is exactly what I did. My mom wanted a room makeover, but we also did not want to spend A LOT of money. Next week I will be sharing with you the full room makeover! I would love it if you stopped by! Below you will find the measurements as well as the links to the lumber used!

    ♡ 1x2x8 Furring Strip Board (2 of these)
    ★ Cut one at 6 ft and cut two at 30 inches long ★
    The leftover scraps you will use as supports for the back side of the headboard.
    www.homedepot....
    ♡ 1x4x8 Eastern White Pine Furring Strip Board (9 of these)
    ★ Cut all of them at 6 ft ★
    You will have SIX 2 ft long boards, but you are only going to use 2 of them for the legs.
    www.homedepot....
    Measurements for this King Size Headboard are 6 ft wide and 31.5 inch in height, with the legs added it becomes 4.6 ft in height.
    Side note, if you have a queen bed you could perhaps get away with buying 10ft boards and cutting them in half, since a queen bed is about 60 in wide. However, do the math and see if it's cheaper to buy 6,8,10 ft boards. Hope this helps!

    I changed the two bottom posts to be on the very left and right edges. If you (like me) plan on hard bolting the headboard to a bed frame, That’s what I did and drilled pass thru holes for carrier bolts to mount to my frame. Granted I’m doing that with a king size bed with a very heavy tempurpedic mattress so it’s not a top-heavy issue which could be a problem with lighter beds or smaller beds like twin or full. I needed a headboard that was essentially part of my frame so I could have my bed in the same location in the center of the room yet sit up and lean against it for support while watching TV etc.

    That looks nice. But I noticed a few boards have the writing on boards facing the front.

    What a lie, $25 is just for the wood. Assuming you already have the power tools (and some won't have a brad nailer) - nails, sandpaper, stain, & wood glue would bring the entire project closer to $50-$60. Maybe they'll have nails, but people who aren't woodworkers won't just have sandpaper, stain, & wood glue lying around. Those are hardly used in construction lumber.

    A great trick to prevent gaps is to trim off each long edge and then the pieces of wood will butt together a lot more snug

    very nice concept. well done.
    Im debating which approach/style I want to take vs buying a headboard which would cost $200-400$.
    Im curious to know did you mount/screw the finish headboard onto the wall or is it just standing on the 2 legs against the wall (unsecured).....and why did you opt to use bunch of single pieces instead just going for 1 single finished sheet of wood in the same size and then just adding the frame design and screwing straight into the wall??

    What prevents you from applying the glue sticking them all together and then screw the trim on right away while the glue is still wet? Seemed like there's no reason to wait for it to dry

    Definitely not $25 and the boards you have are not the ones in the link. Your boards have to be at least $70 for that quality. I spent $20 on boards and they are disgusting. Had to sand and wood fill them for hours. And I spend $50 so far not including nails and screws I have to buy.

    • @maynunez
      @maynunez  3 года назад +1

      Nope, they were no where near that price! My HomeDepot carries really nice inexpensive lumber. I do believe even if you’ve spent $50, that’s still cheaper than most headboards.😄

    This may be a dumb question I am new to this the beginner but I was just wondering... does the Wood Finishing or wood stain does that help avoid getting splinters? I'm assuming sanding it down would definitely help. But is that all you need? Just sanding it down and staining the wood?

    • @maynunez
      @maynunez  2 года назад

      That’s all I did and so far no splinters!

    • @J4y80
      @J4y80 2 года назад

      No, I wouldn't say stain would prevent splinters. Sanding would be the most help for that. Other than that, I suppose perhaps a couple layers of paint or a polyurethane might help if you're trying to go for the rustic, old, beaten up look.. I'd guess?

    Hi!!! Thank you for sharing this!! Would you mind elaborating on what needs to be done to make a queen size headboard? Are you saying instead of buying the 6ft buy 10 and cut those to make it 5ft?
    So 1X4X5 and 1x2x5 with the same quantity?
    Thanks I’m advance

    • @maynunez
      @maynunez  2 года назад +1

      Yes to buying the 10ft boards and cutting them in half, but be careful because they’re not always exactly 10 ft exact, sometimes they’re a little short. In regards to the width, that’s completely up to you! Just see which material is most cost effective!😄
