    You should run a competition for subscribers with the prize being an opportunity to meet you and also pull off some peel ply 😁 It looks so therapeutic, just like popping bubble wrap.
    I hope that you & your family have a great Christmas and a happy & healthy New Year.

    It's beginning to look a lot like..... a 14 foot ocean capable small sailboat!
    So impressive, all the work that you've done so far.
    Happy holidays!

    I am so happy to see that even the great Swen Yrvind is following your progress - whom I am also following along with Yann Quenet's Baluchon 2. (Do you know the latter?)
    Anyway, congrats on your project and I can't hardly wait to see your nice boat on the water.
    Best wishes from Brazil, Captain Perry.

    I'm not new, I've been following you since the beginning. I can't wait to see when you turn the ocss over to lay the fiber. and also install the mast purchased at the beginning.

    • @ocean_capable_small_sailboat
      @ocean_capable_small_sailboat  Год назад

      Thank you! Coming pretty soon. I finally finished the giant roll of 1708 I bought at the beginning of the project and just ordered a little more for the bottom last night.

  • @leemelbourne3297
    @leemelbourne3297 Год назад +1

    When you turn that deck panel over it may bend back against the curve due to its own weight. Fibreglassing the other side may therefore lock in the incorrect shape. Good luck, I look forward to seeing the outcome. Hope it goes well.

    • @ocean_capable_small_sailboat
      @ocean_capable_small_sailboat  Год назад +2

      Yes I have to support it a bit to keep the curve while fiberglassing the bottom. I'm actually thinking to change my tactic for the starboard panel, but I'll show that in a future video.

    • @eschleonardo
      @eschleonardo Год назад

      Maybe fiberglass the underside and let it cure in the final position could be an option. Later you can flip the boat and make fillets, reinforcements, etc...

  • @TomStuchberySailing
    @TomStuchberySailing Год назад

    So good to see the progress on this boat. Really clever how big those deck panels are, must be so satisfying to see the final shape after all this work. Can’t wait for the next video!

    • @ocean_capable_small_sailboat
      @ocean_capable_small_sailboat  Год назад

      Thank you. I figured it's better to get a lot of deck done at once with one long panel, rather than break it up.

    Looking really good. I'm always asking myself if I could modify it to make a Northern Arctic passage.

    • @ocean_capable_small_sailboat
      @ocean_capable_small_sailboat  Год назад

      I think about the northwest passage sometimes. I'd want a really good electric motor setup and solar for that, not much wind up there.

    Looking very close to an enclosed cabin! What is the planned construction for the end of boat arch/bench/buoyancy float? I am not sure I would depend on unbraced foam core for those righting loads.

    • @ocean_capable_small_sailboat
      @ocean_capable_small_sailboat  Год назад

      Unbraced foam? How dare you sir, I wouldn't say there's any unbraced foam on the boat. 😂
      Well I'm still planning the arch. I think it will be fiberglassed on, integrated onto the sides of the hull with 70x350mm vertical supports.

    You altered the design i see from a twin keel and skeg supported rudder to a midkeel and transom rudders. May i ask why? I kinda thought the twin keel/skeg option is pretty versatile and gives the option to beach and clean bottum without cranes etc, it also is more shallow... Is the reason stability or sailing profile? (twin rudder twin keel would be my preferred option btw)

    • @ocean_capable_small_sailboat
      @ocean_capable_small_sailboat  Год назад

      It's still twin keel, and the depth of the keels have never changed. The skeg did get shortened. I don't really believe a long skeg does much to protect the rudder. If a solidly attached skeg hits something really hard, it's only going to tear out the bottom of the hull. Instead I'm going for a rudder that can take a hit and kick back, able to be put back in place later without suffering much or any damage. That's the best I can explain in a brief comment.

    🎄 Just wondering are you familiar with the "ticking stick" method of fitting odd pieces? If not, you should look it up, I found it very handy in my work as a finish carpenter/cabinet maker.

    If you would have learned to draw in 3D & weld and made it out of aluminium you would already be sailing. Just saying. Raw boat welding is approx 4 weeks, finishing touches would be 1 to 2 weeks. Rigging another week or so...Drawing designing depending on skill a few weeks maximum 2 to 3 months.... End result would be a sturdy longevity hull. Butt i guess building like this is fun also...

    • @ocean_capable_small_sailboat
      @ocean_capable_small_sailboat  Год назад +1

      Very optimistic scheduling! I thought I would build this in only a year, but here we are at over 2 years of building (but I am also balancing this with a full time job.) I'd love for the boat to be built of aluminum, that would be very cool. Sadly I have 0 welding experience.
