TBH I'm impressed that you could learn to a high standard three languages like Korean, Japanese and Mandarin, all quite dissimilar from each other and nothing at all like English, in just a few years. I like languages but they go in slowly, anything close to fluency can take half a lifetime. Maybe our brains are just wired differently ;-)

My old Japanese notes are just like this! Very cringey and hard to read! But it's amazing to see how even our handwriting in languages evolves over the years. It's very inspiring

I love your study area!! I have so many books I feel like mine gets cluttered as soon as I clean it. Im currently studying Japanese and this video helped a lot! I love how you said its easier for you to remember vocabulary/words when you memorize phrases, its been the same for me to! I was told by a lot of people not to do that, but I just pick it up so much easier, and then later swap out adjectives or nouns and create new sentences off of that base phrase. ~~sorry for the long message. Did you use flashcards at all when learning Japanese? The hardest thing for me right now is just remembering words, Im hoping to find a language partner to speak with, Im hoping by speaking it more, things will start to stick faster. Anyways! thank you! Yeah I can get messy too! Scaling down and becoming interested in minimalism has helped me a lot though. I try to put things away the second after I've used it, otherwise one small mess leads to bigger messes. Anyways, that method works great for me. And if it works for you, fabulous. You don't need to listen to others telling you not to do that - I can't see a reason why not to! About flash cards, I think I used them ages ago when I was learning hiragana. I try to use them for vocab but it doesn't stick, so I am not a big fan of flash cards tbh. I prefer writing the words in my notebook, making example sentences, and using the word as soon as I can. even if I have to speak to myself or write a diary, the best way to remember vocab is to actually use it in context rather than loosely memorizing the word on it's own. Of course this is just what works for me and you might love flash cards! Whichever method works for you is great! 🌱
I enjoyed your videos! I've never been to U.S, but I can speak English like you do, speaking Korean even though you've never been to Korea. I like foreign languages too! I don't have a purpose to learn them, but I've always had a strong feeling and pure passion for it. To really learn something, you have to really practice every day. You're going to fall down while you're learning, and you're going to get bumps - that's normal! The ups and downs of learning are an integral part of our lives. Motivation from success and depression from failure will always be your study companions. However, every student has problems in his or her studies that he or she lacks the knowledge to solve. It can be: poor memorization of words; no progress in language learning; the student can speak, but does not understand speech by ear; misunderstanding of grammar; incorrect pronunciation, etc. Agree that a problem you don't know how to solve is very demotivating. Don't be afraid of high school :) You will do great. And keep going with Japanese, just do a little bit each day and you'll be able to look back at your progress in no time.
Hi. I noticed that your notes are very colourful. Do you use different colours that indicate something, like, red means new words, blue means something else and stuff, or do you simply use colours to make it look attractive?
No real meanings, sometimes I just want the page to look more interesting but I do categorize it so that example sentences are one color, vocab another etc. It differs each time - I don't really have a system
Is it better to write notes? Ive never written notes in class and then revised them so i figured while i learn languages to just pass the written notes and just repeat everything from time to time .-.

My Korean level is currently somewhere between intermediate and advanced and I was thinking about reading novels to get a broader vocabulary, but since shipping books from Korea all the way to Germany is quite expensive I don't want to spend that much money on a book I won't be able to enjoy/understand.. Any recommendations?
hello! interesting question. I don't read a lot of fiction, and I actually haven't read a lot of Korean novels. I'm really into the book called 심플하게 산다 but it's a book translated from French. it's about minimalism and living simply, if you're interested in that. the vocab is a but advanced though but it's great for studying. How about something like 어린왕자 The Little Prince in Korean? I think twochois.com also sells novels and they might have better descriptions. There are also a few Korean RUclips channels that review books, so you may want to consider checking those out too. Korean bookseller Thanks Books might have their own channel too. may i know some tips you used when you study japanese ? do you study the three scripts first or the grammar in romaji first ? i. having a hard time studying japanese :/
Study Hiragana and Katakana first and then grammar, basic vocab and everyday phrases. Kanji learning should come after that when you have the basics down. But don't worry about Kanji early on just learning how to form sentences and speak it is all that's important in your earlier stages of learning.

Hi Bruno! • 연세 한국어 Yonsei Korean: These textbooks are from Yonsei university but should be available to order online. They have characters (like people in the book), conversations, grammar points and activities. I use Yonsei Korean books when I tutor Korean. They also have a wide range of levels. • Korean Made Easy (forgot the author but it has a woman on the front lol): not too bad for beginners. Starts off with teaching korean script and then swiftly moves on to grammar and conversation. It has some notes on culture too and super cute illustrations. Sometimes the English explanations do not make sense or are confusing, though. • Korean Grammar In Use (I use Intermediate but I am pretty sure there is a beginner version). Basically just grammar structures, explanations, examples and activities. Good for serious grammar studying. • Talk to me in Korean: the website has a ton of free lessons, some audio lessons. They recently started making textbooks which are really interactive, colorful and well-designed. You can order the textbooks either from them or harukorean (I think!). Haven’t used the books but they really look super! • twochois.com ships globally and lists a whole lot of Korean textbooks and resources that you can order.

Hi! I've been studying using different methods for 8 years, so its tricky to give a simple answer. Lots of books, speaking practice, music and watching TV.
I am slowly but surely learning dutch because I have family in holland and want to be able to communicate with them fully. For me, it is generally to dive into this part of my heritage that I know very little about.
I recommend you not to study languages at the same time as it might cause confusion,frustration and it may cause you to think that one word is in that language when it’s in the other language. Not saying that you do study at the same time.

Do you perhaps have any recommendations for Korean novels? My Korean level is currently somewhere between intermediate and advanced and I was thinking about reading novels to get a broader vocabulary, but since shipping books from Korea all the way to Germany is quite expensive I don't want to spend that much money on a book I won't be able to enjoy/understand.. Any recommendations?
hello! interesting question. I don't read a lot of fiction, and I actually haven't read a lot of Korean novels. I'm really into the book called 심플하게 산다 but it's a book translated from French. it's about minimalism and living simply, if you're interested in that. the vocab is a but advanced though but it's great for studying. How about something like 어린왕자 The Little Prince in Korean? I think twochois.com also sells novels and they might have better descriptions. There are also a few Korean RUclips channels that review books, so you may want to consider checking those out too. Korean bookseller Thanks Books might have their own channel too. may i know some tips you used when you study japanese ? do you study the three scripts first or the grammar in romaji first ? i. having a hard time studying japanese :/
Study Hiragana and Katakana first and then grammar, basic vocab and everyday phrases. Kanji learning should come after that when you have the basics down. But don't worry about Kanji early on just learning how to form sentences and speak it is all that's important in your earlier stages of learning.

Do you have any reccomendation for a book to learn Korean self-taught?

• 연세 한국어 Yonsei Korean: These textbooks are from Yonsei university but should be available to order online. They have characters (like people in the book), conversations, grammar points and activities. I use Yonsei Korean books when I tutor Korean. They also have a wide range of levels.
• Korean Made Easy (forgot the author but it has a woman on the front lol): not too bad for beginners. Starts off with teaching korean script and then swiftly moves on to grammar and conversation. It has some notes on culture too and super cute illustrations. Sometimes the English explanations do not make sense or are confusing, though.
• Korean Grammar In Use (I use Intermediate but I am pretty sure there is a beginner version). Basically just grammar structures, explanations, examples and activities. Good for serious grammar studying.
• Talk to me in Korean: the website has a ton of free lessons, some audio lessons. They recently started making textbooks which are really interactive, colorful and well-designed. You can order the textbooks either from them or harukorean (I think!). Haven’t used the books but they really look super!
• twochois.com ships globally and lists a whole lot of Korean textbooks and resources that you can order.

Hi! I've been studying using different methods for 8 years, so its tricky to give a simple answer. Lots of books, speaking practice, music and watching TV.

I am slowly but surely learning dutch because I have family in holland and want to be able to communicate with them fully. For me, it is generally to dive into this part of my heritage that I know very little about.
I recommend you not to study languages at the same time as it might cause confusion,frustration and it may cause you to think that one word is in that language when it’s in the other language. Not saying that you do study at the same time.
