I was staring at the screen thinking this video looks so good like, immaculate lighting? standing angle? white balance? and then I realized 3 minutes in… YOUR HAIR IS PINK!! it looks so good!!
Just something to say for language leaners: You never stop learning a language. In English, if it is your first language, you always find out a new word you never knew existed, are discovering new slang, and discovering what is polite and impolite. Don't give up, guys!
6 years living in Korea but still can't speak as good Korean as you. Lindie you are a true inspiration. Honestly made me motivated to start learning and improving my Korean. Thanks a lot
I agree with her statement. It really depends on how you study or engage with that specific language. I've been into Korean for almost 7 years but have never had enough time to practice Korean. I kept watching videos with subs, then no subs and now I can understand almost everything but I still don't know how to write easy A1 words although I know how to use abbreviations in social media.
My writing also sucks because I watch tv and speak, but never write and Korean isn’t super-phonetic, so there are multiple possibilities for how to spell stuff.
Everything you said is so accurate, especially about how you can learn a lot about someone by how they spend their time. Yeah, you can learn a language for literally any reason, but a language takes a LOT of time and work to even get to the intermediate level, much less an advanced level, so at the end of the day, it's all about if you're putting in the time and effort into making some progress.
True, you would think that a language like French or Spanish which is closer to English would be easier but no, it still takes hundreds or hundred or hours or even thousands to achieve that native-like fluency.
Exactly. I feel like most people are impatient and want results now, rather than taking the time to get a great foundation of habits, so that they will definitely have results in the future, with little effort and stress. I learn chinese like for 1 hour on italki every week and I do 1 hour of self studying and three years later, this has helped me reach B1 level in chinese.
i've been learning korean since 2018 and i'm at the point where i can fluently read novels without ever learning from a textbook, i'm really proud of myself for it hehe, learning korean THROUGH korean (webtoons and then novels) it's why i think i have a lot of confidence in making sentences myself, because i don't have to think 'am i translating this literally from english? does this phrase really exist?' because i can trust i've seen it somewhere before + my subconscious is just providing it back to me; i'm not just using something i've made up and convinced myself is natural... i really wanna start learning a second language but nothing is as interesting to me as korean in terms of alphabet, native words, and grammar. korean is such a gem, a whole language family of itself... i'm satisfied with only knowing korean tbh, it's such a good language i'm finally old enough to take TOPIK this year + i'm applying for study abroad to my dream korean uni for next year (so i could totally take topik then) but i honestly don't even hold topik as a goal anymore. like you said, it focuses on a very limited range of korean, someone could get topik level 6 but not have the ability to read a book etc... i think it focuses too much on science + political vocab which is hardly important as much as adjectives for describing a person/personality etc. still insecure about speaking, despite any compliments on my pronunciation, but i'm really making progress starting to speak on calls with my friends, which took me ages to get comfortable with. and of course speaking in korean class (my uni major) is helping a lot !! anyway this was just a personal ramble i don't expect anyone to read lmao

I don't feel like it's helping me at all. So if you're still active on this yt account I would love to know how you read them haha
Tbh, I'm getting into the whole "-은/는" and "이/가" thing at the moment. It hasn't seemed to be too challenging so far, but it's adding an entirely new dynamic to interpreting sentences. It can take a simple sentence, "Today the weather is nice.", and turn it into "At least the weather is nice TODAY (as opposed to every other day)", or "At least THE WEATHER is nice today (as opposed to literally everything else)". And honestly, I'm feeling like that's going to be a lot to consider, as it seems like the next chapter is going to build off of this. I have no idea what to expect in chapter 10 of TTIK.
Guys don't worry too much about it :) I have used the TTMIK books as well and I absolutely love them. You don't have to force yourself and try too hard to understand it. With time and exposure to the korean language, it will just come to you naturally. ^^
I also want do add that lessons in the TTMIK book aren't necessarily become harder and harder in each level. There are just some Grammar structures that are important and basic but are hard to grasp for beginners. There will always be lessons that will seem easier, or harder, no matter what level you are at! So don't worry about what is yet to come, 화이팅! You can do it♡
I really wanted to learn Korean so bad 😩 Ive learned hangeul and a few words. But that's just it. My goal is just to understand Korean so I can watch my variety shows and dramas without having to really focus on screen for the subtitles.

I have a question that sort of came to me as I was watching. I think this was something that held me back from a variety of situations early on during my time in Japan, and I really notice it holding me back here in Korea now, so I'd be curious to hear how you deal with it: How do you approach speaking with superiors or people older than you when you are still a beginner. It feels like the stakes are so much higher when you make a mistake because you risk just sounding so rude at a slip of the tongue. I find myself just trying to end those interactions as quickly as possible, waiting and hoping that after my more casual speaking skills are more fluid, I might be able to tackle those more delicate kinds of conversation. But it seems like a cop-out... idk. What are your thoughts? 👀
I second this question, and also worry people will laugh at me for being too formal. I've even encountered the problem in French by using the "vous" form when it was apparently inappropriate. There are just so many nuances to formality and honorifics make it that much harder. I don't feel that aware of my own social status.

I'm learning orean at my age of 34 and I feel a bit frustrated because i'm learning by my own and watching videos and learning from books, I know a lot of things but when i have to talk about something in that moment improvised. I'm completely blocked.
I’ve been learning several Languages, for some reason I got hooked… I’m trying the stack method but it’s slowing me down… i need to focus on one language after another.. but it’s a good testing skill…
I have a tip for those who are kind of stuck in the intermediate level, watch korean variety shows! Korea have variety shows for so many topics so I'm almost totally sure you can find something you'd like to watch, I started to feel a bit tired to study textbooks and stuff, so I just went to entertain myself with koreans shows that I really like, and it was SO beneficial, I learned so many words and phrases and grammar patterns, the variety shows where they show people's daily life's are the best for, but you can watch anything you'd like, and it really doesn't feel like you're studying at all, my first one was The Return of the Superman, a classic! Bit again just try to find something you like and enjoy!
I completely agree with Lindie on the 한자 (Chinese characters). It is very advantageous if you know them. I know Chinese and Japanese very well and it helped me a lot to grasp new vocabulary.
I've been learning Korean for 3 years with a pause in 2020 for obvious reasons, it took me time to find again the motivation to keep going but I love the language and culture so I got back to learning but now I'm not rushing I'm taking my time, I know that at the end I will achieve my goal go speak Korea 화이팅
I've started learning Korean when I was in 4th grade of elementary school (9/10 years) and now I'm 20-freaking-5 and I feel like I haven't really accomplished a lot. XD My advice is, don't ever let yourself be lazy. It's perfectly okay to take a break when it's needed, but learning a language is a process and therefore, it has to be consistent. My problem is that I'm stuck. Textbooks are totally not my thing and going through them is just so painfully boring to me. I can't even accurately establish where I'm at. Sometimes I'll understand about 68% of a song or an article, but my knowledge is so lacking. I know there are some things you just can't skip, like you have to build a solid base when it comes to a lot of things, especially grammar. Korean grammar is so precise, there are a lot of constructions that require you to twist your way of thinking. Some words/patterns can only be used in a specific context. And then there are fixed expressions that require you to stop trying to think WHY IT'S SAID LIKE THIS because it's just is.
Have you tried using talk to me in korean audio files? You said textbooks aren't really your type and I am the same lol but ttmik has been a pleasant experience so far :D
@@celestialgirl9456 Oh, thank you so much! I haven’t tried them yet, but since you recommend them I might check them out. ^^ I’ve only went through some TTMIK lessons, but later switched to HTSK.

Great video! I always enjoyed Spongemind videos. I actually just competed his language camp which was the motivation I needed to finally stop hanging around at beginner level. Now Inhave a good routine and can solidly say I am intermediate! I am going in a year I can reach upper intermediate. Maybe even advanced. I feel more motivated after breaking out of beginner. I used to say I would never learn hanja but now I bought a hanja book because I am motivated to learn more vocab. I've picked up some of this naturally like 학 and other base words to guess. And one day I want to learn Japanese so I figure it'll help with kanji too.
@@melodywilson Like understanding the pronunciation? I always think of the ㅇ character as a place holder, so if it is at the top, and there's a batchim before I can move that final sound into the placeholder. And if the place holder isn't there, then the sound is stopped or half-said. Hard to explain in typing. But overall, the more that you listen, especially with a transcript so you can see the words as they are being said, eventually it will make sense. It can be helpful too if you've studied awhile to read to someone and have them correct any pronunciation issues.
I'd buy pretty much anything you recommend...wondering if you can affiliate-link to any refillable pens, eco-friendly notebooks? Love this behind-the-scenes look as well as the bit about that space rock, or whatever that was. Adorb 🧑🚀
I remember watching her videos on Korean saying she got comfortable in 2.5 years. "oh so i can do the same?" I thought. No. I couldn't. 5 years in and my speaking level is still very low because I didn't practice a enough. I got very discouraged in the process. I just started to practice a little more and overcome my speaking "anxiety". I'm writing this to let anyone know who didn't "get fluent and/or comfortable in 2 years", YOU WILL GET THERE. YOU DIDN'T WASTE YOUR TIME. You have a lot information stored in your brain that needs to be activated. When you're going to practice is obviously your choice but I promise you that you can do it.
great. i am Korean and i do speak a little bit of Japanese as well. it seems you're speaking Korean quite well. i'm making Korean cartoon 4 cut everyday basically. and it deals some of differences between Korean and Japanese as well. it must be helpful for you i guess. there are lots of differences between Korean and Japanese, though the sounding and the root of the words are so similar or the same.
This was so informative. I am basic 2- intermediate 1 level in Korean and agree with everything you said. Korean is harder than i though. The script is so easy that it almost made me believe language is going to be easier. But is it not. I do take breaks so it is taking me longer to get to upper intermediate level than i thought. But hey, as you said, it is a hobby for me and i am taking it slow and really enjoying it. Thanks for a great video! 😃 PS - And about accent- yes you will improve as you speak more and more!
Mmm yours is so very enthusiastic mind. Your youtube-channel although it is free Came up with helping broaden aspects? such as my genuine occupation, studies' acquisitions& improvements, son education, etc something for present. ...
Lol i wish the Korean language was as universal as Spanish. If it was used all over Asia, man I could learn it 300mph since I'm exposed to it. Lol just my imaginary 2 cents.
This video is super helpful to advice for my Korean learning students!! I just have absorbed whole time while watching this video!! Thank you for this informative video!!!
Loving the pink hair though. I need to get out of school so I can do it. For accents, I think a native accent is less important than an understandable relatively natural and flowing accent. If people aren’t struggling to understand you and you can communicate your ideas, fine.

저는 스페인어를 배우려고 구독하고 있습니다 :))
I’m native Korean teacher!😁😁 This video is really interesting🇰🇷🇰🇷👍👍재밌어요!!
I'm struggling with korean, more than japanese or chinese. Most words sound the same to me. It's going to be a looong road...
I'm learning orean at my age of 34 and I feel a bit frustrated because i'm learning by my own and watching videos and learning from books, I know a lot of things but when i have to talk about something in that moment improvised. I'm completely blocked.
I tried Hilokal (listening rn) and thank you! Hahaha
I know it's not related to the video, but I love your hair! 😍
Your hair is so beautiful!
Thank you for the amazing video!!!
I have to right away say something! Your hair is a distraction since it looks so nice on you!! Okay, got it off my chest 😁
I'm not interested in learning Korean at the moment, but honestly how can I get a notification from Lindie's channel and not watch?
I’ve been learning several Languages, for some reason I got hooked… I’m trying the stack method but it’s slowing me down… i need to focus on one language after another.. but it’s a good testing skill…
10년동안??? 와~ 난 5년동안 한국말 공부했는데
True. I do this as a beginner ❤
As an ARMY who always watch BTS show, this is an absolute WIN to me
👁️👄👁️
I completely agree with Lindie on the 한자 (Chinese characters). It is very advantageous if you know them. I know Chinese and Japanese very well and it helped me a lot to grasp new vocabulary.
I work in a technical branch with Korean and if I did not know basic hanja I would be deeeeed haha
Thanks Lindie you made me love to learn languages☺️
Your hair! Love it. 👍🏼🙏🏼 I spent two hours last night trying to dissect two Japanese sentences. It seems hopeless. 😁 I would imagine Korean is just as difficult to learn. Great video. 👍🏼
Felt that bit about using tests as motivation. It’s why I read 2000 kanji now, taking the Japanese Kanji test.
thanks for the tips! i want to focus on it a lot this academic year
You got this!
I love your hair and your tips obviously haha
Lindie...you just blew my mind. Talking about how ㅗ and ㅓ have those different mouth shapes...you just helped me out so much! Why isn't that something you read about more often when trying to distinguish the sounds?!!?! Thank you!!
Thanks for the tips, I'm starting Korean and Italian this year while currently practicing and improving my Spanish and French. So, my goal this year is to learn Hangul and some vocab then we progress to something more... Thanks for being so inspiring!!!
Just a video that i was looking for. I feel like i need to talk more after 1.5 years.
Thanks Lindie
Loving your hair lindie!
I'm gonna start learning Korean in a few months after I get better at German and French so this is really helpful! I'm less intimidated and confused by it now, watching this made me really excited to start learning Korean haha
Nice I’m looking for this!
Damn i was just starting out with Korean and found your vdo. Thanks ❤️❤️
I recently graduated from university , and now i am a trilingual Translator ( Arabic , French , English) but i couldn't find a job so i decided to get a M.A in translation , although i want to find a job , so can you give me an advice Lindie ?
진짜 너무 짱 멋져요ㅠㅠㅠ love ur vids so much
Your hair is hella pretty
Your voice is so soothing, I love it ❤
I absolutely love your hair!!!
I read "free resources" and there I go click baited. You got me right here waiting for you to hand out the freebies. 🤣
Haha! Well the app I mentioned is free and so are many of the resources I curated on my website!
Great tips, Lindie! I admire you, and I've heard you're Christian. Are you still a believer? ❤
excellent, your study tips are valid for which language you learn, thanks for all.
I'm a beginner and I'm struggling to understand batchim etc. Do you have and tips or advice on how to understand this better?
@@melodywilson Like understanding the pronunciation? I always think of the ㅇ character as a place holder, so if it is at the top, and there's a batchim before I can move that final sound into the placeholder. And if the place holder isn't there, then the sound is stopped or half-said. Hard to explain in typing. But overall, the more that you listen, especially with a transcript so you can see the words as they are being said, eventually it will make sense. It can be helpful too if you've studied awhile to read to someone and have them correct any pronunciation issues.
@@Learninglotsoflanguages ummm complex and final consonants.
I dont have a korean key board so im not able to write it out
@@Learninglotsoflanguages do u have email? I can send you a picture of the problem?
I'd buy pretty much anything you recommend...wondering if you can affiliate-link to any refillable pens, eco-friendly notebooks? Love this behind-the-scenes look as well as the bit about that space rock, or whatever that was. Adorb 🧑🚀
great video as always, Lindie!! btw loving the new hair! ♥
Correct
Do you speak Korean?
Hilokal sounds like a great app. I'm pretty nervous about my Korean speaking so practicing without having to look at people's faces is great.
올해부터 한국어를 공부하기 시작했어요!!!! 린디 씨, 영감을 주셔서 고마워요! 언젠가 한국어를 잘 할 수 있었으면 좋겠어요. 🥺🙏🏻
Love what you said about having an accent, I didn't think of turning that into something to self-reflect about
영어로 대화 연습하기 좋은 HILOKAL 같은 것이 있을까요? 린디님
I’m learning korean by watching videos in english, which is not my mother tongue 😌
린디도 잰말놀이 하시는고만요 ㅎㅎ
Lindie you are my inspiration. Now i am learning korea, Japanese, Chinese .
great. i am Korean and i do speak a little bit of Japanese as well. it seems you're speaking Korean quite well. i'm making Korean cartoon 4 cut everyday basically. and it deals some of differences between Korean and Japanese as well. it must be helpful for you i guess. there are lots of differences between Korean and Japanese, though the sounding and the root of the words are so similar or the same.
PS - And about accent- yes you will improve as you speak more and more!
언어의 재능이 있으신 것 같아요 :) 멋져요 :)
This video is super helpful to advice for my Korean learning students!! I just have absorbed whole time while watching this video!! Thank you for this informative video!!!
OMG!! Listening to korean is so cool. It sounds really nice.
Do you speak german? If you don’t, you can learn it! 👍🏻😉
Loving the pink hair though. I need to get out of school so I can do it.
For accents, I think a native accent is less important than an understandable relatively natural and flowing accent. If people aren’t struggling to understand you and you can communicate your ideas, fine.
Do you have a desire to learn portuguese one day too Lindie?
Isn't saying 저는 every 2 second making one sound like a foreign robot?
한국어 발음이 너무 정확한데요. 놀랍습니다.
Lindie !!! Do you still learning Turkish?
I’ve been subscribed to you for a while, getting learning tips from you and how did i JUST realize that you’re living in singapore?? haha omg hiiiii 😊
Hi!!!
What grammar books will you recommend for early beginner?
IMPRESSIVE! 멋져요 린다님
TOPIK will have speaking part
I love you soooo much
Thank you, Lindie! The content you make is amazing and really helpful for me, especially this video (and other ones) regarding learning Korean as I have just started learning it :) my goal is to get to the intermediate level and to be able to have casual conversations. I'm so excited for this new language learning journey ;D English is my second language and hopefully Korean will be the third.
안녕하세요! 린디님 😇
I just want to say that I'm so glad I found your channel, I love watching you videos and it gets me so motivated to learn more!
Please make the same for other languages too.
1:37 Ela falando Coreano me deu aquela vontade poliglota de aprender o idioma.
