Schengen Europe is easier.... You need the visa stating "Allowed to work in Germany (as example)" - but then you never need it again. You'll get a plastic card from the foreigners office called "Aufenthaltstitel" - regardless whether temporary or permanent. So next time you enter the Schengen area from outside, that plastic card is sufficient.

Jim, thank you for mentioning about F-1 and H1b visas. Me and my wife cannot go visit our elderly since we are too afraid that this could happen to us. We worked and studied so hard to get our jobs here in US and we cannot afford to loose them. It’s been 6 years since we visit our own country and I really feel stuck in an open-air prison.
I don’t know why this is so difficult. Our status is 100% legal, yet we are afraid to be punished by bureaucracy. Something doesn’t add up, and I feel strong urge to leave everything behind.
No offense to anyone and I am glad we have been granted opportunities in this country, yet everyday I feel like we are actively being punished to live here. In the end, traveling is a right for everyone and it is upsetting to fight for these rights

You are exactly right. Since you have already been approved for legally residing and working in the country, you shouldn't be denied by another government agency nor stripped of the right to travel. Your feelings are shared by many; we love the country but hate the immigration system. It's an unpleasant reality.
