- Today I am fishing a Slay Nation Kayak Tournament on Lake Istokpoga located in Central Florida. I am coming into this tournament blind, however, I am very excited because I have heard there are giant bass out here! There have been over 600 trophy bass caught on Lake Istokpoga so I know there’s big fish out here… I just have to figure out what they’re doing! That was a great day of fishing in a kayak tournament, I am very impressed with your persistent attitude it is rare and seldom encounter getting advice from a boat angler giving you the best spot on the lake and allowing you to have your glory at it. The end results earned you a cash prize, the biggest fish and some hardware. I fished 30 years of tournaments in Florida Istapoga was 1 of favorite lake my biggest fish was caught was 10 lbs 3 the tournament would have over 100 boats I caught the big fish in practice it would take 30 to 40 lbs to when win I was flipping a lot a lot jigs and craws

I fish Slay Nation Central Florida small boat trail. If you search in google you will find it. Let me know if you have any questions. Most of our lakes are in Polk County.
Congratulations on your 1st place finish. How do you decide on when to use a drop shot vs a shaky head?
Thanks Steven! For me the drop shot is always a last resort… or I use it if I the fish are small and I am trying to confirm that suspicion.
If they are short striking the speed worm I always throw the drop shot as a follow up just for a different presentation and it works!
I prefer throwing the shaky head… but if I know the bite is really tough the drop shot is always the way to go.
I use the shaky head when there’s a lot of wood around. I will use the drop shot to finish picking a spot clean if I feel there’s still fish in the area that just might be finicky.

Sup bro. I fished this lake this past weekend. And i looked everywhere for this area. Very windy everything was blown out. What part of the lake was this in.
I launched out of Istokpoga Park on the North side of the lake. There’s a ton of Lilly pad fields out there. That’s where I was hanging out. Hope this helps!
