- I struggled with addiction for almost 10 years. I have been in and out of jail/prison for years. I now have my Bachelor's degree in criminal program support services. 📚 I hope to use my experience in the system and my degree to help others better understand addiction and our prison system. This story is based on my own personal opinion and experiences.

You do have it in you! I cannot even begin to imagine what you're going through but I do truly believe in you! Mind has control over body, it's the hardest thing to do but it is possible and it's worth it. Please, don't give up. You are so strong for fighting already so I know you can win this battle! You share a name with my mother and she is the toughest strongest woman I know. And don't think that's a coincidence. If you can, try meditating, all of the answers lie within you. the disgusting thing is that i relate to some of your experiences in prison and jail, i’ve never been, but i have been in a psych ward 3 times, that’s really telling of the mental health system in canada

From what I've heard (both my parents have gone to the psych ward a number of times) it's not much better where I live in the US.
I'm in the u.s and been to both and the sych ward is worse you have less freedom and more supervision in sych ward in my opinion crazy
agreed, in Canada myself & in the psych ward a bunch and its really sad how much of this i can relate to as well. the system here sucks so bad

My husband is a case manager/re-entry specialist for felons once they're released.
The success rate for getting them reintegrated into society is low because employers and landlords don't want to give them a chance once they are released. 😞

I hope you and the girls are doing as ok as you can be, under the circumstances! I've walked your path, and it's devastating. Leaving was the hardest decision I ever had to make, and I still second guess myself to this day (I moved out in 2019- I never "left" my husband in the sense of "we're done," but I couldn't safely live with him while he was drinking and using). My heart absolutely breaks for you, because I know what this is like. Of course addicts are in pain and struggling (I'm in recovery 16 years myself), but it's not the level of pain that the loved ones feel. We don't get to numb out feelings. We have to experience them all AND keep doing day to day life. It fucking sucks to feel like you're grieving the love of your life who is still alive. Sending you so much love. I wish nothing but the best for ALL of you, including Reese, of course. 💗💗💗

When you were talking about women fighting over talking about there family I completely agree someone called my sister a narc and said it must run in the family before I knew what I was doing I jumped off the top bunk and was trying my best to beat her up. I was lucky I didn't get caught honestly. But if you let someone disrespect you everyone will think they can. So you do what you have too

When I was in firefighting school, in 2009, one of my classmates was called chomo because of her love for chocolate milk. At the time, none of us, not even the instructors, actually knew what that word meant and I was quite shocked when I found out years later.

RE committing crimes to go back to prison: My cousin was incarcerated for drugs back in the 90s. When he got out, he changed his life for his young kids. He moved into a trailer and was trying to get a job to support his family. Due to the conviction, no one would hire him. He had no way of generating an income, even though he was clean and very willing to work. With no hope in sight, he busted out a window on a restaurant and sat on the ground next to it to wait for the cops. He went back to prison and ended up dying in his early 40s.
Heartbreaking.
That’s not right I’m sorry he went through that 😢
That's really sad. We need a way for people to come back to society.

Didn’t know people kept random critters as pets in prison. Knowing the comfort that pets provide, it’s oddly heartwearming that people are able to adopt their own “homies” to get through the tough times. Also makes me sad and angry that the guards often throw them away on discovery, that’s so cruel :( (somehow not surprising considering the “5-photo rule, but still).

Been reading recently about sleep and the purpose of dreams and I wonder how the experience of dreaming differs - if at all - while a person is in a prison environment. Also, what happens if an inmate is a sleepwalker! Especially in a dorm environment.

Absolutely doing the time is the easiest thing ever! It’s when you get out and have to move back in with parents, find a job, save up for a car and pay for rides, save up even more to move out and get your own place again. Sitting in jail is easy. Rebuilding your life again is the challenging part. I had to do that like five times from the age of 21 to the age of 34. I was very foolish with my decision making during my alcoholic times. I never thought that alcohol would ruin my life but it did in different ways than I assumed it would. Thanks for reading. Life definitely got better from the age of 34 to now I am 42.

For jobs in prison, how do you get them? Do you get assigned, have to apply, or can just ask for what job you want if the job has an opening? Can you do a video on what it was like to have a job in prison if you haven’t already?
I’m sure different facility’s do different things, but some jobs are just assigned and some you can apply too.

I am so so glad you are Jessica again and that prison changed you I'm sure but not in a negative way it changed you in a opened your eyes and now look at you helping other not by selling them drugs but getting them help for recovery.. amazing how your life is the way it is because you did it, no one else but Jessica she got on her big girl pants 👖 and got her kid back and is clean and now teaching others right from wrong
I have a question regarding the cleanliness of the bathroom/showers….. is it because the inmates or staff don’t clean real well or is it because the prison itself doesn’t provide the proper equipment to clean with?

My guess would be that what you stated is part of it, but also part of it could be just a lot people using it. Public restrooms in college get cleaned, but the showers are still nasty and you gotta wear shower shoes. I think that any public restroom with masses amounts of people using them is going to be nasty.
@@You_Need_To_Calm_Down agree 100%. After I posted the comment I thought about the volume of people that hit the showers. I work in environmental services for a hospital and it’s very hard to keep up on the public restrooms due to the volume of people.
I've only been in county jail, but the cleaning staff (inmates) would have one mop/bucket and would go through and clean EVERYTJING with it. And the cleaner isn't like top brand cleaner either. It smells weird on its own. So yeah, not only because of the sheer volume of people using the showers every day, but even being cleaned once a day it doesn't really get "clean". Not even just the showers though... everything is like that lol I would clean my cell top to bottom every day and it would still be filthy constantly. I only took my shoes off to sleep and even then I still wore socks and I hate sleeping with socks on. 😂

I would send your videos to my dad trying to encourage him to stay sober and stay in rehab and not go to jail. Sadly, he passed away in July using fentanyl so I had been avoiding ya.

Yes my ex was in prison in VA and it was a hate crime to beat up a chomo. They were in with them. My ex said alot of people acted like they didn't care or were cool with them. He said he wouldn't talk to them.

When I worked as a C/O I would have very inmates ask me stuff, and more often than not I had to say “I have no idea. Y’all gonna find out before me, let me know!” 😂

Pluss all of the inmates in my group are alot older than me and wery well educated. I got some ex police offisers, ex government workers and the rest is mixed.

In my teens I was in the streets for a while. I ran with other street kids & I can recall two incidents of intentionally getting arrested for “3 hots & a cot”. It’s not that anyone wanted to go. In one case the young man had severely injured his hand & arm. In the other, a different young man had pneumonia in the middle of winter. Both had been ejected from the hospital & were suffering. The pneumonia case was actually too weak to get himself arrested so some friends propped him up in front of an electronics store & shattered the windows.
It worked. Both spent under 2 weeks in jail, and could have died without it.
It’s always bothered me that our society allows that to be a legitimate way, even if it is a last resort, to get medical attention & a regular diet.
I’m watching the homelessness crisis rise, knowing I’m only a few bad steps away myself & I’m kinda surprised I don’t hear about it more often.
Jail is scary, you lose autonomy & connections- freedom. Prison even more so. But being on the streets is also scary & it doesn’t come with a bed (however thin), three meals a day (even if not great), or medical care. Many prisons have job training or education completion options. I’m not suggesting it’s easy or that people are treated well, or even humanely. I’ve just experienced the streets and, though I’ve never been to prison or jail, I’ve seen people who have choose jail over street.
I really do dream of a classless civilization where all people are treated equally & given equitable access to resources. Unfortunate, prisoners are barely treated as human (depends on location) & the homeless are alternately vermin or invisible. All are just people & we’d all be in the same situation if we’d been through the same circumstances.
That's so sickening.
I mean, a society that just let's ppl stay in the street till they either die other break the law and go to prison is just cruel, and it does not even make fiscal sense..
The patrols, the anti homelessness structure, the cost of judges, attorneys and prison space..
If add all that together, providing free housing and healthcare would be sooo much cheaper, AND would probably allow most of them to get back on their feet within months...
Yeah, a classless society would be great, but even just a society that cares about the weakest among them would be a step up!

Yeah I can’t find a good job, it’s been 12 years and jobs still being up my felony. Mine was just a traffic accident and I didn’t have insurance
About comitting crimes to go back to prision, in my country, some people do it because you can get "unemployment benefits" (we don't called it like that) when you get out of there. So people would do something illegal, go to prision for a short period of time, and then getting a few months of "unemployment benefits".
Once I was at the police station because I was renewing my national ID (here you go to a national police station for that, also to get your passport) and saw a guy going there and telling the first officer he saw that he had stolen a motorbike. And he was doing it, not becouse he felt that he needed to make police work extremely easy, but because of this.
The thing is that here, inmates have some rights, constitutional rights actually, and it's good that they have them, but it's also true that some people live taking advantage of those rights.
Wow. That's really really sad, that some people are in such a bad situation that they feel like they can't survive without "unemployment benefits". Committing crime for that reason - that's pretty extreme.

Hi Jessica, in Wayne County, Detroit, MI they DO cut the hot dogs vertically. I never once thought that people were thinking about "self-pleasure". Even though you never heard of people doing it, I bet ya that lots of people think about it. Why else would there be so many questions about it? Hmmm... 🤔

The assumption that prison changes u depends on the amount of time you do. The first time I went in for 18 months it didn't change me at all. The last time for 8 years definitely did

@@saraa.4295 the difference between 8 years out here and 8 years inside is astronomical. Prison is constant drama and sadness with moments of joy. Because of all the drama it's a pressure cooker for your mind and body. The best example of this is a domestic violence victim. But 8 years out here flies by, big difference

Plus, out here, the ppl we know are with us, as we change. If you are in prison, they only have calls, visits and letters, so the change is more pronounced by that alone.
Here in europe, prison usually isn't as bad as in america..we do have education, job training, furloughs, cells that look like rooms, and co's who are trained to treat inmates like human beings!

There's been times it was easier to get drugs in jail than on the streets & I would get arrested on purpose for that reason. 🤦🏼♀️🤯😬 Addiction really does make you do shit you'd never even imagine doing sober!

Appreciate your honesty, but I have one observation. You said that other inmates better not steal because if they are caught, there will be a physical confrontation, so they don't do it. But many of the inmates are in prion for stealing and don't seem to have a problem with that activity. It sounds like they respect others who will take justice against them, so would it be good for the prison system to physically harm prisoners who have been convicted of theft so they will not do it again. Don't hate the comment. I was told by my dad that during the war the military prison was so harsh that inmates did not reoffend, for the vast majority.

From watching Larry Lawton's channel, he has said that it is very hard to acclimate back into society after doing a lot of time. I'd never assume anything about prison since thankfully I've never been .
As far as #1 goes I would have to say it’s definitely true. I taught a group of cousins that all lives together. The moms would take turns committing small crimes so they would “get a break from life” . While one was “away”, the other would tend to the children. They essentially rotated so that each went away 1-2 times a year and bragged about it!
That's just crazy!!!!
People can change so I think there should be resources to help. I know some places in cali help felons.
