All my life, I played blood elves, and I loved the horde.
But why am I now crying hearing the song of the dead Alliance king?
God, blizzard stepped up their music 10000 times today
Probably because he died for the freedom of all of Azeroth ?
Valeera Sanguinar is another High Elf still in Alliance territory. Could be her as well.
Ky van Rae nope, just "for the Alliance"
Valeera is a BLOOD elf, the reason why she's alliance is because of her time as a gladiator with Varion and a few others
For Azeroth
This song is hands down one of the most beautiful that Blizzard have ever produced. I don't think I've ever felt such emotion before, I really hope they make some kind of accompanying funeral cinematic to go along with this masterpiece. Great job again Mr. Brower and @nellasmusic :3
4 words: Lament of the Highborne. Still, close second.
@@noneofyerbisness8702 hmmm no :D not as emotion triggering, just a classic opera :D

Α take on the lyrics. It's definitely Thalassian, and, if the first verse is correct in its transcription, then it's most likely a lament for a dead hero that is about to be buried. The translations are taken from wowpedia:
Elor bindel (Sleep forever)
Morin'aminor (In quiet serenity)
Lende anu (??)
Shorel'aran (Farewell)
Ann'da anore (Father of our people)
Selama (…) (Justice ...)
Diel shala anu bala (Safe journey ??)

Ash’thero’dalah’dor (Watch our land?)
Ann'da/Band'or shorel’aran (Father/Prepare to say farewell)
Elor bindel (Sleep forever)

Ann'da anore (Father our people)
Selama ashal'anore (Justice for our people)
Diel shala anu bala (Safe journey ??)
Anar’daleh/alah (By the ??/ight)
Ash’thero’dalah’dor (Watch our land?)
Ann'da/Band'or shorel'aran (Father/Prepare to say farewell)
*Mega Edit: This is getting very bloated, so I'll just transfer my comment on reddit under /u/Iridachroma.*
- Corrections with /u/TxRedHead input (ann'da, ashal'anore) and user +Filip Batora with his youtube comment on Diel shala and Anar'alah. Also, a thanks to the Wowpedians on Darnassian and Thalassian articles & speculations.
- The first two lines in the first verse are part of the phrase Elor bindel felallan morin'aminor (Sleep forever in quiet serenity). Since felallan is missing, it could be either Sleep forever (in) quiet serenity/Sleep (forever) in quiet serenity/Sleep forever in (quiet) serenity. I'm also not sure how the last line the second verse begins. It's either Ann'da (pappa, presumably father too) or Band'or (prepare to say).
- Line 3 in verse 2 is probably Diel shala, something along the lines of 'safe journey (to the other side/afterlife)'. As Al diel shala already means 'Safe Travels', 'al' must be along the lines of 'to you' (Safe travels to you/May you have safe travels cf. Darnassian Ishnu alah - Good fortune to you). Line 4 in verse 2 could be Anar'alah, but it's not pronounced as it should, so I'm not sure about that.
- I've been thinking about Lende in line 2 of verse 1, and it could be Endal (breath), although it isn't much helpful considering that it's not certain what anu means (wowpedia speculates it means 'us').
- The enigmatic Ash'thero'dalah'dor (wowpedia gives the first syllable as az instead of ash, but I don't agree), if it's indeed what I'm hearing. It's Darnassian, as Malfurion uses it in WCIII. Why is it here? Well, Thalassian and Darnassian came from the same language, so similarities are bound to happen. A naga in WCIII:TFT uses the battle-cry 'Ash'thero sanguine', so, the first part of the phrase seems to get around. But what does it mean? The following is all **very, very** speculative:
Ash Karath is the only other phrase where we see the word ash and the phrase itself is officially translated as *Do it!*. It's not sure whether it's the imperative of the verb do, though.
Thero can be found in thero'shan (honored student). It's almost certain that shan means honored, Shan'do means honored teacher. Consequently, thero must mean student. However, the verb to study also has the (broader) meaning of pouring (mental) endeavour/thought into something (cf. the adjective studious). So, I make the speculation that thero might also mean (mental) endeavour/labour.
Dalah is thought to be my/mine, and I think it's correct, as dalah surfal means is officially translated as 'my beloved one' and kene'thil surfas as 'I love you'.
Dor could mean land. We (probably) see the suffix in the word Kalimdor, and the word itself in the phrase Andu-falah-dor (I think the wowpedians have made a good speculation why it means 'land' in this phrase).
Now, before moving to the phrase itself, let me do the speculation that Ash'thero sanguine could mean 'Do mental labour (in) blood'. Sanguis (genitive sanguinis) means blood in Latin, and I think that is exactly what means, as a latin root is also used in Anar'endal dracon (By the breath of the dragon in Thalassian), which is of course the word dragon (draco, genitive draconis). More practically: Pour your thoughts into killing (okay, perhaps not that practical). Considering it's used in battle, it makes sense.
Now, having all these in mind, what could Ash'thero'dalah'dor mean? If we were correct in the assumptions above, it might mean 'Do (mental) labour (for) my land', and for it to make sense in the song, maybe it has the sense of 'Watch over my land'.
It´s not Anar´daleh, but Anar alah (By the Light).
And not Deshala, but Diel shala (Safe travels).
Yeah, the pronunciation isn't really on point and some parts are hard to make out. For example, we have the phrase anar'alah from the Lament of the Highborne, and it sounds like ah-nar-eh-lah, while here it sounds like ah-nar-ah-leh (with a dental sound between nar and ah, more discernible the second time), so I thought it might be something different. Diel shala could be it though, as in 'Safe journey (to the afterlife)'.
It actually came to my mind that phrase "lende anu" could mean "we bid you".
So, the first part could mean:
Sleep forever,
in serenity. (felallan could mean quiet)
We bid you,
farewell.
It could be. In the speculation section of Thalassian in wowpedia, 'anu' is speculated to be us (presumably 'we' too?). This could help with the mystery of anu bala, a phrase existing in WoW too (Nethermancer Sepethrea: Anu bala belore alon, which she says when she dies; most likely not a coincidence, considering the nature of this song).
Edit: Considering pronunciation is a bit fuzzy here, Lende anu could also be Endal anu, endal means breath, so something... You (were) our breath?/(We say this with) our breath? Or something along those lines.
So if it's Thalassian... who dies? O_O :(
This is where blizzard separates from other mmos. The lore is so deep, and they elicit emotion from you with hymns like this. This is where the addiction truly lives
That's part of why I stopped playing in BFA, and how Shadowlands convinced me to never play Retail again. The lore's just turned into an absolute joke around a terribly written mary-sue character. Used to be so good.
@@TarlukLegion I played BfA only for a couple of levels, but I had to suspend it because of real life. Who's the Mary Sue character, Jaina?
@@strictlyunreal Sylvanas. She's been written like a Disney villain, if that Disney villain had ten layers of plot armor and forced half the playerbase to go along with her baby-slaughtering-for-shits-and-giggles questlines so that the Horde could be framed as the solely bad guys again by the plot.
At around the end of the expansion, Saurfang, a fan-favorite character for years, was forced to fight Sylvanas because plot and died to her without even getting a single hit in. Tyrande, an already very powerful character, was supercharged to become the literal avatar of a goddess, and couldn't even stop her henchmen. Most recently, even the fucking LICH KING, the focus of an entire 2-year expansion and one of the most powerful characters in the lore, lost to Sylvanas without even getting a single hit in. That's how much bloody plot armor Sylvanas has been given by the writers, and by now most people who are in it for the lore are getting sick of it.
This video goes over it pretty nicely as well. ruclips.net/video/5Gswrg23De8/видео.html
@@TarlukLegion I don't know what to say. I mean, I didn't really expect Saurfang to be able to do anything to her. But what happened at the Frozen Throne surprised me. Even though that Lich King was not Arthas, I still expected him to win.
One moment that I found strange was the fight she had with Malfurion in Darkshore. I didn't think her, even with the help of Saurfang, to be able to defeat Malfurion.

This song perfectly encapsulates the old Alliance of Lordaeron: The Human marching drums and violins, the Dwarven bagpipes, and the Thalassian lyrics. The only part missing, in my opinion, is an accompaniment of kazoos for the Gnomes, albiet they served under the Dwarves in the Second War.
Fuck the gnomes!Just kidding I love them.
Chubark Something tells me the silly gnome kazoos would have probably undercut the emotional thing this song is going for xD

Jesus fucking Christ... The feeling of this song combined with knowledge where this song is for... THE TEARS WON'T FUCKING STOP.
Magical. Purely magical.
Rest in peace my King , lost but never forgotten.
This seems to be a farewell anthem to Varian. It sounds very much militaristic. What confuses me is the Thalassian language on it. I'd like to think that it's Valeera Sanguinar singing this. I always thought these two had something more and Valeera is strangely long gone. It would be nice to see her return for the funeral, considering all these things Varian and her have been together..
I like to think it's an old Elven song of mourning adopted by Arathi humans to honor the passing of kings - hence the Gaelic-sounding influence passed down from Vrykul ancestry.
Valeera was nothing more than a friend to Varian, who would never replace or think about replacing Tiffin.
I'm pretty sure High Elves also speak Thalassian
Valerie Belle Ronan Well gaelic has nothing to do with Nordic stuff in this case Vrykul. I'd rather compare it with the environment of Arathor then, highlands and ancient stone monuments, pretty gaelic and not to forget the nearby Wildhammer dwarves.
Ebonstorm I know this comment is necrod, but Valeera is in the rogue class hall so def not gone :)
A King has fallen.

I played the Legion battle scenario in the beta. Most of the cut scenes were still missing so we lumped along as best we could. Next thing I knew we were back on the gunship over Stormwind Harbor. Greymane begged me to take a letter to Anduin. The Gilnean looked upset. That made me anxious but I did not suspect. I had not seen nor heard. And then I saw the myriad purple blossoms strewn about the throne room floor and in their midst....the cold stone effigy of my king. And the white city fell silent.
RIP Varian.

My first WoW character was a Pandaren monk. I did the opening questline for the Pandaren, and chose the Alliance because they seemed honest and honorable. I remember being welcomed to Stormwind by King Varian Wrynn himself, and thinking what a cool character he is, hoping he shows up later in the story. I played all the way through Pandaria, skipped some of Warlords, and came back for Legion. I was blown away when King Varian sacrificed himself to save the Alliance, and all the people of Azeroth. My Pandaren monk will always remember the kind and just king who welcomed him to the Alliance, and made the ultimate sacrifice to save the world. Farewell, King Varian Wrynn. This song makes me (as a blood elf player) miss that time when Quel’Thalas was a friend of the Alliance.
@Felix Calino the Humans are no friends of Quel'thalas, especially now that they are friends with Alleria and the traitors Void Elves who could corrupt the Sunwell, just because the Humans helped the High Elves a couple of times in the past (but then they betrayed the Blood Elves as well), it doesn't mean they should be friends ever again....sure Orcs are no real friends of Quel'thalas either, despite we Blood Elves are in the Horde right now, I'm convinced we are in the Horde only temporarily for the duration of WoW, in Warcraft 4 or WoW 2 I'm pretty sure we will leave the Horde...and hopefully Quel'thalas will be rebuilt as an independent and free kingdom once again, or at least in a faction/confederation of Elves only, such as fighting alongside the Nightborne of Suramar for example....yes Quel'thalas and Suramar are powerful enough to stand together right now, without pesky Humans or Orcs around always ordering and bringing the Blood Elves into their silly wars each time
Vados I didn’t forget Garithos and Jaina’s actions. But Alleria and Tyralyon are not enemies for me.
Vados like I didn’t forget what the Horde has done to Quel’Thalas in 2nd War. I didn’t forget that it was Zandalari who supported the Amani against the high elves, and now they are also part of the Horde. I don’t like the horde. And the fact that we are in there.
@@felixcalino yeah as I said the best solution would be Quel'thalas independent from Horde and Alliance so the Blood Elves are not forced to fight for anybody anymore...well at least soon we will hear what Kael'thas thinks of the Blood Elves in the Horde lol...maybe he will make Lor'themar king too finally

BFA....makes this feel hollow... All our sacrifices for nothing...
I think that is the point, to make all the sacrifices against the legion seem like it is all for naught, that no matter what, the two factions will always veer towards war.
Maybe it's to make us feel broken and useless, just to when there's no hope, show us that there will always be a way to defeat the evil and them somehow it'll work out or what do I know I'm not a writer :D
So its a perfect song about the dead of (nearly every) war. War is useless. So all sacrifices are made for nothing that matters.
