I'm not a compressor guy for many years, but I've been testing a Keeley clone so transparent and clipping just bought and tested. After I tried oh man! this is what I need, my perspective on the compressor has changed again, when I am asked to choose three pedals, first compressor, then overdrive and reverb.

Appreciate this video. I had a CM Quattro a few years ago and always loved the compressor in it. It was also a two knob compressor. I would like to know if this is the same circuit as that one. Currently I have the Keeley Comp Plus on my board, but I'm a little disappointed with it and thinking about trying this one. Do you know what the difference is between the CM comp/limiter and the Keeley?

Hey! I don't know if it's exactly the same as in the Quattro. However, it's a variation on their original comp/limiter (so it's pretty likely to be similar). I also have the Keeley Comp+. The Keeley gives you more control, obviously. But personally, I prefer the sound and feel of the Carl Martin in comparison. I hope that helps ; )

Love your vids mate. I'm looking at Keeley Comp Plus, Wampler Ego or an MXR? Which would you get out of those?

Thanks! I haven't used the Wampler Ego, I've heard good things though. The Dyna-Comp is great but the Ego would be more versatile. I've got a Comp Plus, it's cool. (But I prefer the Comp/Limiter for my needs.) Another great shout is the Xotic SP Compressor too. Hope that helps mate. Cheers ; )

I have been using a compressor for many years....but I'm a bit of an "odd duck"....I don't really use it for clean sounds....I use them to boost overdrive/distortion....amp or pedal. Way back in '87 or so, I came across a pedal that no one seems to talk about much......the T.C. Electronic Sustain-Parametric Equalizer pedal. IMHO, hands down the very best compressor if you want to boost drive channels or pedals. As I'm sure you know, using compressors to boost distortion can result in a "noise" problem! I have tried so many other compressors.....even some Carl Martin pedals....and they just produce way too much noise. I don't know what T.C Electronic did to make the Sustain-Parametic pedal quiet(it has a "noise suppressor control) that I don't even use! You can be in the drive channel(or have a dirt box turned on), turn the T.C. pedal on with your guitar volume on about half, and there is no hiss or any noise....until you hit a note....and it just roars!!! Check one out if you can find one...worth the effort!!!

Awesome! I'll have to keep an eye out ; ) Most comps lift the noise floor. But again, it's not that they're adding noise... They're just amplifying the quiet stuff (which includes the noise that's already there). This isn't usually an issue at lower comp settings. But the more aggressive the compression, the higher the background noise. That said, I haven't noticed any extraneous noise in using the CM Comp/Limiter.
