The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I spoke with brilliant songwriter Dick Addrisi a number of years ago and he shared how one of his songs was too difficult for Streisand to master. But Shirley Bassey had no problem. She is a legend.
Whidh song? "Never My Love"?
@@marknewcomedy1 - I believe it was "Excuse Me". Dick's version is on RUclips.
Excuse me Barbra Streisand
maybe because streisand could not sing
@@jadezee6316 girl! Just search up videos of her. Especially from 1966-1967
Another member of the British invasion of the mid-sixties that doesn't get half the accolades she deserves. Great performance!.
Thank you for helping preserve Ed Sullivan's legacy and that of his guest stars!
The 007 voice forever!!😎
Nobody does it like Dame Shirley Bassey!! She is captivating. The world's greatest female entertainer..
Hot damn that was good! Shirley is one of the greatest performers period.
Shirley Bassey, Is one of the greatest female singer, we haven’t ever seen😊
Fantastic Singer!!!💥💥💥💥💥♥️
❤❤❤Shirley❤❤❤ She did amazing on this song. The fact that it is live just makes this clip even more astonishing.
Absolutely a voice and tone that is unmistakably one of the greatest sounds ever heard by man 👨 🙌 👏 👌 ❤️ 😍 👨 🙌 👏 👌 ❤️ 😍 👨 🙌 👏 👌
I love her styling. Such a great talent!
She is fabulous. I don't understand how she didn't become a bigger star.
She was a huge star in Europe, however she was primarily a live act.
Yeah she was absolutely massive across the pond.
Many people think from a USA perspective, but Shirley Bassey is amongst the top tier female vocalists who have sold more than 100 million records. She was inducted into the Guinness Book of World records in 2000 for being the largest selling female vocalist from the United Kingdom. Although most of her sales are within ALL the territories of the United Kingdom and also throughout Europe, she did have several hits in the United States. Her concerts in the USA over the past 6 decades have always sold out. She had quite a few single hits with over 105 released, but her bread-N-butter was her album sales, which are obviously more lucrative financially. She also is the ONLY artist (male or female) who has had at least one top 40 hit in 7 consecutive decades. Dame Shirley's latest album was released in 2000 and it peaked at number 5 on the British Charts. Scot, USA
WOW!!!! What a gift she has!
Spectacular and Unique Voice.....
Extraordinary talent.
a young Shirly Bassey at the peak of her vocal powers and they were Superior.....
She was 30 years old to be exact
Good ole days.
I heard Della Reese perform this song live in 1968. I can't find where she ever recorded it but it was flawless
Her powerful, transparent and well modulated voice was unique in her style, an outstanding figure in music that had nothing to envy to the great contemporary American R&B stars such as Aretha, Diana Ross or Gladys Knight.
Stunning, she had it all, and her talent has never left her. She could give Barbra a run for her money.
Babs would be second on that competition.
That's the Truuuuth!
barbera...even spelled correctly, is not on anyone's list of great singers
Shirley and Barbra know each other and have each attended each other's performances many times over the decades. Barbra once stated many decades ago that Shirley was the only artist she would pay to see. Shirley was Barbra's mother's favorite singer. Shirley relates an incident that happened a few decades ago. She went back to the dressing room to see Barbra after attending one of her performances. Barbra's mother was there. After having a few laughs together, suddenly Barbra's mother started humming the music to 'Goldfinger'. After a few minutes, Barbra turned around and said, mom, will you just SHUT UP! Her mother said, I'm sorry, but Shirley is my favorite singer! Shirley thought to herself, this time for me to bow out! She didn't want to be responsible for a row with mother and daughter! lol
@@jadezee6316 she is,!
A beautiful woman
Very nice 👌
Woww...such an outstanding Version👌
Stunning performance! I love her music and her voice was so powerful! Thank you for sharing this! God Bless You & stay safe.
She makes it look so easy. Guess it is, for her.
What a fantastic rendition! Brilliant Shirley!
Love her. She’s so perfect
Miss those years...was fabulous time...
BRILLIANT voice!!!
That voice! ❤❤❤❤
One of the all time greats!
Absolutely legendary !
WONDERFUL Voice, just beautiful!
This is where Barbara Streisand got it from. Shirley's been in game professionally since she was a teenager
since the mid 1950s
Shirley is about 4 years older than Babs however Babs got her inspiration from Judy Garland, Edith Piaf and Opera not Shirley, who became famous in the US round about the same time as Barbara.
@@arlenecerf8833 Judy Garland said Shirley Bassey had the voice she admired the most. High praise. Shirley was trained in the operatic style.
@@adambrocklehurst4211 I’m aware of that and Shirley has also said that she has admired Judy Garland since she was a wee lass.
one of the greats
Just Beautiful... 🌹

❤️
Oh my god
From the UK with love Ms gold finger is you don't know Basey
I've never been a BIG Shirley Bassey fan. She has a great voice, but I'm not a fan of all the gesturing and movement she is known for. Nevertheless, she is a performer, and she's still performing.
Who cares? You’re a Debbie Downer.
Do you feel better for sharing that?
💚💙💜
Swinging Shirley.
Take that, Mr. Goldfinger!
