- The DRDV is Canine Rocket Tech's simple yet reliable vehicle used to test better ways down! All rockets are designed to go up, but this one was built for nothing else but to be dropped! By conducting these tests, it allows us to collect valuable data on how rockets react on descent instead of ascent. DRDV is a very simple dummy vehicle, which is what makes it so reliable. This robust vehicle can withstand a free fall from 22ft without suffering any damage! the footage shows a saftey cord we put on the earlier tests. It doesn't help to soften impact, but rather keep the vehicle from falling over to much after impact and smashing the cameras up top. DRDV will pave the way for future landing vehicles with actual propulsion.
The purpose of these experiments are to test the general characteristics of the vehicle right after being dropped, rather than actually simulating a falling rocket. It also was used to test the landing legs.

Just to clarify, This is to test how the vehicle reacts at the initial point of descent, and how the legs will react to un-even loads and impact. This wasn't to collect aerodynamic data (25ft drop is too low). Also this was when Yukon Didn't know grid fins don't work at such low airspeeds 😂😂😂😂

Cool! Are any tests going to be conclusive though*? You are dropping the rocket from a pretty low altitude. *(better explanation of the question) Would anything be really effective in showing if something works to slow the rocket? Apart from that, cool test, and cannot wait for a real test of your rocket flying! Nice Work!

Thanks! Yes the highest point is 25 feet, Its of course too low for aerodynamic data, but high enough to get sufficient data for the legs. Higher drop altitudes are much more favorable. I'm plannig to build a drone to do better tests
@@CanineDefenseTechnologies How are you measuring data? What data are you collecting? For example, the ground that the rocket is landing on is uneven. If you were looking to see if the rocket lands or if the landing legs break, then uneven terrain may cause the legs to break or the rocket to tip over, not because they are not strong enough, but are landing on a very uneven hard surface. (See what I am getting at?) Many variables, so I don't understand how data could be accurate. Or measurable. 25ft is too little for accurate results or to get any in some cases. Although I do not know what data you are testing for, then which 25ft maybe enough.

@@sourfruit Yes I understand. The ground being uneven if perfectly fine, because uneven loads on the legs were the purpose on many of these experiments. I wanted to see if the legs would break landing hard on the wrong side. Of course in a real landing situation, this is unideal. The kinda data are a onboard Accelerometers and Gyroscope, although more for impact data than anything else lol!

There is always a time where you think grid fins will work. They don’t work for model rocketry, and never will lol
They are not effective as actuating control surfaces, they work as vented drag fins though, so they do actually somewhat work
