Aldeia da Pena captivates us with its shale and slate architecture, and its location, at the bottom of a lush valley, between the steep slopes of the Serra de S.Macário. The access is made by an incomreme road in which only one car fits at a time. On arriving we came across the good disposition of the placard of welcome saying "It was worth coming to Pena". In 2008 in this village lived 8 people from 3 families, two of whom came from Lisbon and Switzerland, seeking here the quality of life lost in large urban centers. It has a cafe that serves meals in the summer season (Cabidela rice, cooked in the style of Pena, veal roasted in the wood oven). I met Mr. António Arouca who showed us his handicrafts and demonstrated his skills with the slate in the construction of the replicas of the schist houses.
