Thanks for this video. I've just bought this saw, and your video will hopefully mean I can avoid the problems you encountered.
I'm glad it was helpful, good luck.
Does this saw have a 20mm arbor bore? So none of my Diablo 5/8" bore 7-1/4" or other saw blades will work? Am I stuck only using Evolution saw blades ?
I think Evolution want you to think that. However you can get 20mm bore blades from Saxxon Blades www.saxtonblades.co.uk/tct-circular-saw-blades/evolution-saw-blades I replaced my mitresaw blade with one of these and it made a massive difference in cut quality/ tearout.
Evo themselves sell a double sided arbour inner flange with both 5/8" (16mm) and 20mm so can use other saws with 16mm bore. I've just ordered one for mine. Evolution R185CMS-Li Spare Parts - F03 - Double Inner Flange (5/8" & 20Mm) x1
Had the same problem with mine, done exactly the same only 1 mm off the splinter gaurd is enough so it never catches it,really don't understand why evolution are not setting the saw this way from the factory..
It is a cheap saw, cutting corners in quality is how you make it cheap, I've come to accept that it is only good for rough cuts, breaking down panels, that sort of thing.
I have had the evolution track.saw (R185CCSX+) since they first released it Jan 2021 and I can say that I am not overly impressed. I guess, I expected a lot, but the saw needs to be a track saw and not a *circular saw on a track, of which it is. The dust collection is rubbish because of it not truly being a track saw. I have tried many things to correct the saw, I even made a guard using perspex, but it did not cure the problem.
I bought the 2800mm track - my saw originally came with 3 x small tracks which I found annoying. The splinter guard doesn't last long and after 3-4 uses I found I had to replace it. I initially would purchase festool splinter guards because Evolutiion did not sell any. This year after many complaints Evolution finally decided to supply their own brand.
Anyway, the saw is not accurate and the track is difficult to align due to no zero clearance.
This year I am fitting my own kitchen and I have stopped using the saw. I find that I my cuts are more accurate when cutting by hand.
I shall not buy evolution again
I also have their construction DB grade mitre saw of which I love, but this too throws out too much dust.
I can see why mitre saws have this problem. Manufacturers place the dust collection too high up above the blade. There isn't enough suctiion.
Any way, I agree with you and hope that your cures for your saw works.
they do it now, i just got on and all the issues are done with from the factory-alignment with guard, track smooth no entry bump, rails need 1 mm gap though clearly in manual, etc
I have the same saw and track. I bit the bullet and forked out for a Makita and use the evolution track. The evolution saw is relegated to rough garden sleeper cuts. It took too much of time fiddling with it. I also changed out the evolution splinter guard. Thanks for the videos and help.
In glad the Makita has worked out, mine too is relegated to rough cuts.
I recently bought this saw and the associated track. Right out of the box, the saw would not cut with the track . The saw blade is obviously not parallel to the track. Thank you for the helpful video. I'll do the same adjustment, as well as check for the blade guard distance from the track to save the splinter guard. Cheap saw=wasted time fiddling with it. Wish I had a whole Festool setup!
Good luck, 👍🏻
We all wish that but you need a budget to match.
Like most things, bit of time looking and fettling can sort most, keep up the good work
Thanks Garry
First cut the blade cut right through the splinter guard , I now use that as my guide, not sure if it’s right, this is helpful tho Il check it’s all aligned
Yes, that's what you are supposed to do on the first cut, the problem I had was the splinter guard kept falling off!
What are you doing, the 2 orange adjusting screws on the plate should remedy any 'mm' difference
Hi Brian, Thanjs for the suggestion, I agree that's what they should do, and they do it fine for one cut, but if you try to repeat the cut you have to readjust the orange adjusting screws again, I can tighten the Allan bolts to ' lock' them in place but this makes no difference, by the time I start my next cut they need readjusting. I've pretty much given up with the saw now,, I don't use the track at all and I only use the saw for rough cutting panels which I finish up on the table saw.
@@DIYTinkerer tighten them tighter :)
@@GavinConwayWoodworkBBQ I really dont think I can without stripping the threads! 😀
Well done!
Thanks, when the tracking issue started I was ready to throw the track saw in the bin, it felt like the last straw, but I needed to make a cut and that motivated me to investigate.
@@DIYTinkerer hi, your honest discussion about the saw convinced me to purchase the budget saw. I don’t make a living with carpentry tools so I don’t need a 600.00 dollar tool taking up space 90% of the time. However, from time to time the precision a track saw can easily deliver is needed. I appreciate your willingness to share your thoughts and concerns about your experience with the saw.
