Hello Emma! You said about "iron" that in British English it is pronounced differently TO an American English. Has "different TO" become standard English, i.e. has it chased away "different FROM"? Furthermore, what's new to me is the occurrence of "AN American English", in which I find the indefinite article "AN" quite puzzling! Can you explain?

    Iron [a ɪ ə n] used to be shocking for me. Recently I was shocked of U.S. transcription of this word - [a ɪ r n].
This all means: "o" is silent. So in British English "rn" transofms to [ə n]...
P.S. There is a Caucasian region in Russia called North Ossetia. In Ossetian language word "Ossetian" spells like "ирон" [i ˈr ɔ n] (Cyrillic letters of "iron")
