I visited the Maginot line near Weissenbourg; an impressive construction still in place. The concept was valid for the war experience of that time (trenches); however, the line did not extend to the channel and Ardennes forest. Who knows if the extension could give time to France and stopped the panzer divisions of blitzkrieg.
The Maginot line was supposed to repeal a german attack on the fortified portions of the border with Germany. The other portions in near Belgium were supposed to be defended by the franco-english armies on the field. The maginot line didn't fail, the field army and high command did.
