Thank you for sharing your blessed grappling with Psalm 1. One further opposition stood out to me. While the ungodly aligns with multiple sources (wicked, sinners, scoffers), they all lead to one outcome (death). In contrast, the righteous aligns with one source (God's law) which leads to a multitude of blessings (rootedness, fruit, non-withering).

I enjoyed this video. Thank you. The chaff here in Psalms 1 made me think of the parable of the weeds(tares) and wheat in Matthew 13. At the end of the day(harvest), the Farmer(God) is only concerned with the wheat. The weeds, although they sprout up from nowhere even without being watered(truth), will be thrown into the fire. The weeds try to choke the wheat. They may even grow bigger and faster. But again, the Farmer is only concerned about the wheat. It does not matter how many practice lawlessness, God's concern is for those who hold to the truth(good seed/word of God). They will be gathered into the Heavenly barn at the harvest. But the chaff will be blown away by the wind. Chaff is the outer shell of the wheat kernel. The chaff even has the appearance of the wheat, but it is hollow. The chaff are not the wheat but only have the appearance of God's people. They will be blown away by the wind(Rev7:1-2)

You should look up at what c.s. Lewis has to say about war. I think it will help in some ways but I know that this is a subject that you yourself need to explore because many people myself included are at peace with what God says about war and how that isn't mutually exclusive to loving your enemies.
I don't think that you can sacrifice Justice on the altar of love like that I mean if a judge in the courtroom looked at a man who killed twelve children and said hey I'm commanded by the Lord to love you so I'm just going to let you go so sorry family of the victims. or would a good judge say, "hey you're citizen who turned around and did these heinous things the most loving thing I can do is to sentence you to death because you're not the only one who needs to be considered here."

Pastor Wolfmueller. These excersises are extremely helpful to me. Often I read and don't take the time to comprehend because I am just stuck on the habit of progressing or conquering/finishing. Almost like checking a box for the day. A bad habit I developed during my very busy and hectic, fast paced work over the years. I'm retired from that job and am trying to slow down and learn. These videos are tremendously helpful for that purpose, thank you!

Psalm 1:4 "The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away."
While viewing your video it struck me for the first time that this verse does not say something like "The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which exists eternally in an everlasting state of judgement."
When I think about the metaphor a bit deeper I see an implication that when the wind drives away the chaff it's essentially obliviated. It's scattered to the four corners of the earth (so to speak) and reduced back to the dusts from which it came. There is no certain place where you could point to and and say "here is where the chaff is gathered." It's just gone.
"…but the way of the ungodly shall perish."

Moses wrote Psalm One and it’s about Jesus as all the Psalms are about Jesus. The Law of the LORD is a reference to the Torah which is the instruction of the LORD (Jesus) about Himself. Jesus is the man in verse one. Jesus is the tree in verse three.

Great insight Pastor Wolfmueller! I often think of how St Paul uses the positions of sit, walk, stand in the positive sense in the epistle to the Ephesians, and how the opening verse of Psalm 1 uses these positions in the negative sense.

The things you pointed out really helped me bring it all together as our final assignment for this study is to outline a passage, Ps. 1 as though we were going to teach it. This has really challenged how I read and study God's Word, so thank you again!

This was dead fun, my favorite Psalm. Also tho, I think it’s a both/and regards reading the Bible like a narrative story, and engaging with the specific text in deeper study. To miss the overall narrative is too easy, when only or mostly approaching it as a textbook for learning. And without the narrative really we miss too much. I have a Bible which has no verse markings, just basic books and chapters. It’s my favorite Bible to just sit and read. And we know that the Lord does give grace through the reading of his Word, so there is always a blessing there, as well as there is with deeper study.

I benefit from and enjoy the grappling series, esp when law/Gospel is clearly taught and applied to us according to the passage , thus Jesus’ redemptive work on the cross remaining the central focus. I think of passages in a new and clearer way and they are so applicable to my daily life.

I'm coming at a point where the Bible starts to make *less* sense now I'm digging deeper into it.
I used to steer clear of Revelation as it leads to such wild and different eschatologies, but now I have more issues with comprehending the epistles to the Corinthians and Hebrews. It just seems I'm missing so much background to shine the right light on them. For example what is this baptism of the dead? What are the washings that Hebrews talks about, are those important?
I just hope this is just the valley of the Dunning-Kruger curve and I'm simply discovering that just the "simple" reading isn't all of the story, but it's hard to get through.

very interesting probably not for me but interesting nonetheless. as an existential philosopher and newly minted theologian it confuses me how everyone especially other theologians do these type of studies the meaning seems to comes across to me inherently although I can dive deeper to find more meanings. 10:03 promoting prosperity gospel but de-emphasizing christian science 🤔. anyway good video 👍. if any any believers or theologians get bored with the text just realize divine inspiration can apply to other sacred texts. after reading hindu scripture, OAHSPE and the urantia book the bible will never be boring again.

Psalm 1 seems a lot different than the other psalms. Seems more like a proverb

  • @charleswilliams8847
    @charleswilliams8847 8 месяцев назад

The word man here in Hebrew, Greek and Latin denotes a single adult male. It is not adam, anthropos and homo which mean human beings. If we as Christians look for Christ everywhere in the psalms, we can see that THE righteous man is our savior. This turns the psalm into an act of devotion in addition to an instruction. It also ties psalm 1, psalm 2 and psalm 3 together as messianic prophecy. Another thought. If we carry the tree simile one sentence further, the blessed man bears good fruit. This takes us to Jesus' teaching in the gospels.

So faith comes by the word. Maybe Hebrews? If your righteousness don't exceed that of the parishes, you will not enter the Kingdom of the Father. This tells me, Christ is the Word. Or the Bible. Tho's who seek the truth will know the Father. Christ is also the truth, because the truth is the Word of God. All in all, I would forsure tell my flock before any other book, look to the Bible. Caz there you'll find faith and righteousness.
