  • It's another "ugly" sketchbook tour, meaning I didn't go back to try to make it fuller or prettier. It's raw! It's also had most of the best stuff taken out and forgotten. It's also a Muji sketchbook.

"ugly" or real/practical sketchbooks are my fav. they're about learning and raw experience. definitely more vulnerable. love it

Love it! It's REAL! Not ugly at all, I love to have a look at another artist's thought processes. Showing your real unfiltered sketchbook has made me love all of my "ugly" sketchbooks soo much more. We need to be proud of them they work had for us.

Can we just go back to that painting that turns? That is incredible! It moves? Like a clock? What? And that almost 3D cat that came shortly after? I'm obsessed with your work! You have a new fan and follower. Ugly sketchbook? I love it!

Yeah! the clock was such a pain in the butt, I'm a little regretful that it ended up feeling so delicate that I'm sure it'll stop turning pretty quick, but it's still going 1 or 2 years later 😊

@YellowMelle incredible! Kind of a metaphor for the delicate balance of time. I can imagine something similar done on a large scale with metal. Have you seen Ivan Iler's work? He works with metal creating pieces that have a lot of movement to them. Just a thought. I love your work and felt pulled to comment. Thanks for sharing your work!

Gorgeous. As a fellow artist, I like seeing all the process stuff, and it’s great seeing your planning along with inset images of what work developed from it. So much of what we see on social media is people sharing the most polished versions of their creativity, but I think there’s something so wonderful about seeing the steps leading up to the “finished version”. I love getting a feel for the thought process, and getting a feel for the artist behind the art. I love the “combining two things” approach you took to shifting stuck places in your creativity. And the results are so interesting and fun to look at. Thank you so much for sharing all of this. It reminds me of meeting up with a drawing pal and exchanging sketchbooks to have a look at each other’s beautiful and weird brains before we spend a few hours drawing together…

Ah thanks, that's kind to say.
YES! The drawing pal meetups was such a big thing growing up! I truly miss that in-person page-flipping experience now that everything has gone so digital.

I make excuses for my ugly attempts at art too. You don't need to, your sketch book is impressive, exciting and interesting.

You: This is an ugly trial balloon. Me: That’s a beautiful, finished drawing. Liked and subscribed.

Always interesting getting to see inside a sketchbook, more so as I've enjoyed your videos for a while and so that familiarity adds to the experience, it's more enjoyable, more meaningful, if that makes sense.

I was surprised how many different paintings were started in there! Must have been a more prolific year haha. Cheers!

Sure! I think I was originally attracted to it because it feels like a softcover novel with nothing in it!
