    I just bought a 1983 944 which obviously has nothing to do with the 911, but I'm 59 years old and I grew up liking the 9/11s and the 944s and the 928s. It is so fun or nice or enjoyable to be driving the 944 in 2023 and having more people wave or honk or give me thumbs up or talk to me at the gas station than any other car I've ever driven except for equally my 1973 Corvette. I think they're both awesome.

      I love the 944, my first one was a turbo ( 220bhp ) sold it and regretted it, I then purchased a 2.7 lux ( 1989 ) sold it and yes regretted it again, I’m currently on the look out for a late bridge spoiler S2.
      My dream car has always been a 911 ( 993 turbo ) but with the price of them now, i think that will remain just a dream and I’ll be happy to own a 944 S2 ❤

    I am quite in love with my 915 gearbox. When you flow with the synchros it is a thing of beauty. And it was designed and produced by Porsche not outsourced to Getrag.

    I thoroughly love my 915 gearbox. It’s well sorted and extremely satisfying to use. You do need to work it, but that’s the charm.

    I agree the classic Porsche was the best. I to like the sound. looks. The older Porsche are not cheap to this day. They hold the value. Thank you for sharing .

    PS : I haven’t gone the route of the weavo (sp) or rennsfift kit route. I really love my 915 as is - but rebuilt to stock specs. Remember that the 915 transmission is part of Porsche racing history. It’s terrific.

    After years of wanting one, I finally bought a 1982 911 SC in grand prix white for a reasonable price. I got it a bit lower due to horrible paint chips and surging idle. This is the most I paid for a car needing work.

    Great video … thanks! The first Porsche that I ever drove was a 70’s vintage guards red coupe owned by a work acquaintance. This was in the mid eighties and he let me drive the car to lunch one day. I couldn’t wipe the grin off my face … the most fun driving experience that I still remember today. Fast forward and I’m in a forest green metallic ’99 Boxster that we’ve owned for coming on twenty years as the second owner. The car will celebrate her 25th birthday this July … it’s a joy to drive! There might very well be an air cooled 911 in my future but if not I’ll always have that first memory!

    Really nice review of your car and this era 911. Your car is magnificently sorted even if you still need some clutch work. All of the cars of this era need all of the work to be done and you either pay up for the receipts from the previous owner or you bear the cost yourself. I think you’re going to love owning this car based on this video. At least I hope you do. It’s a beautiful example. Cheers

    If you double clutch the trans, it will shift like butter, and your trans will last at least 300 K before you need to service it. Double clutching is required on the 915.

    Nice video! Lovely car, you are very fortunate to have the a/c working as well as you described. When I had mine, it was only good enough to cool my fingertips when I placed my hands near the vents. The 915 does take its time with gear changes, can’t rush it but do check the shift linkage to see if there is any slack that can be taken out. Luv the opening sequence of this video. Transported back in time 😊

      It’s because it’s not the original AC compressor in the engine compartment. The original blows mildly cool air, definitely not cold enough for the hot summer days of HK. Nice upgrade then !

    Cool video. I have an '89 with the G50, but then I got my car the shifter bushings (same as the 915) were pretty worn and mine was like trying to stir porridge with a spoon. I'm sure your mechanic checked this by now but just rebuilding those makes a huge difference. The plastics used for various bushings and some ac vent ducts in the car like the shifter, throttle linkage, throttle rod in the tunnel, and the seats are made out of a bakelite type plastic and seems to crumble into dust in time My G50 has to warm up before it will shift too and seems to be the nature of European cars. But research the various transmission oils and test a few out to see what your car likes. It can make a absolutely huge difference as it did for me. Good luck and keep up the good work. P.S. P cars are worth driving a lot unlike the F cars since the parts are all available in spades and an owner can rebuild anything on the car, including the 915 transaxle in the garage. Porsche factory parts, German OEM, and the aftermarket has these cars covered. May be expensive but better than having something important listed as NLA from the parts suppliers and have to compete on ebay for something stupid like a relay or a fog light.

    Great video, you may need to look at the bushings in your shifter, certainly the 915 is an art to shift, but once you get it down it’s a beautiful thing - love mine. The car is one of the best overall experiences to drive and I love it as much as my modern Porsche. Enjoy.

    Great video and lovely car. Just for your information cars delivered to the uk if specked with a rear spoiler would come from the factory with a tea tray spoiler. The 915 is a gem of a gear box provided the gear box is in good condition and set up properly.

    Love the story, and congrats on getting the car. It sounds like it might have something to do with your syncro? imho 915 gearbox is more precise than the 901/902 gearbox and I never have to put it in neutral when rowing through the gear in the older cars. Great vid keep them coming!!

    • @billsmith5960
      @billsmith5960 9 месяцев назад +1

      Correct, the syncros will wear out. Plus they came out with rubber center clutches and those would come apart and thus people would burn up a syncro trying to shift it as the rubber got caught between the clutch and one of the mating surfaces. Those same syncros were used on the Porsche racecars. For example with that era, 935's and even up to the 962. You could shift them fast but had to have mechanical sympathy as for a 24hr race you could burn up a syncro.

    Very nice review! That explains why your gearshift sound a bit slow😂
    Jokes aside I think you are very correct about basic 911 being nearly as good as the top models. For the 997, I really like the 7.1Gt3 but then a basic 997 isn’t bad either, so much so that I wanna buy back a 7.1 c2s manual if I can!

    • @instacarhk5963
      @instacarhk5963  10 месяцев назад

      Shifting is slow indeed! 997's are future classics for sure, you should buy back one for sure!

  • @billsmith5960

    Just a correction, the Carrera 3.0 is pretty much an SC and released in 1976. They even had the aluminum case (as opposed to everything else up to that point with a magnesium case).
