just curious my friend what blew your attempts at the ham exam? not sure if the out-off-band unlock is the same as uv5r butt it is all over for the older radio.
I just scribe to your channel and love it. I’ve got about 6 handles and I’m into everything about radio’s I agree 100% about the Quansheng and many other’s are so small you can’t hear so you turn it up. And it distorts instantly. I think the quansheng is one of the worst ones out there for sound. Thanks again Alan from England 🇬🇧🇺🇸💯👍
Just found your channel, very good review TY. I am an ex-ham very active 1978-98 but got turned off by the "sad hams" probably will not re-license. appreciate your uv-25 review I am considering adding TID-H3's to my UV-5R's but am now thinking about UV-25's. TY again, will be watching your channel.

Seems like a great HT radio to have just for all the bands it receives, if nothing else. I'm seriously tempted to get one. I'm so sick of the sad hams not giving radios a fair review. I don't care if they find the features useful, just tell us what they are and WE will decide if we like them. You did this review correctly
I bought the UV-25 when it first came out on aliexpress. Mine puts out 16watts with a full charge and stays charged forever with the massive battery. I originally got it for poop and laughter. Something for the shelf but it’s actually pretty good.
All HT's can hit the max power they are rated for. On ONE frequency. I have the TYT UV 8000D. It is a ten watt radio, on one frequency. 146.000. Yes, I know, no one uses that frequency. But it does put out the full power, which for the TYT, is 10 watts. Even your high end expensive HT's will only put out the full power, on one frequency. I suggest you do some more testing. I've had my License since 2016, Technician level.

I find that many Sad Hams won't give Chinese radios a fair review to save their life! I have no Bias! For the Price the Chinese Radios are King, and these old times can't stand it! If you want to make sure you can communicate in a say grid down event get a good Mobil radio. 50 watts and you can easy go 40 miles. I have some handy talkies but used very little.
Great review, and I like your attitude! We are like minded on a lot of stuff. Thanks for the info! Do you think there is a lot of difference in the hardware between this and the AR-152?
I appreciated the remarks on destroying a radio deliberately. Its disgusts me, with the exception of good faith tests eg for waterproofing, or tear-downs for educational purposes.
I have the BF UV-K5Plus I think its called. It has the same screen and pretty similar color theme and its useable in sunlight for checking what frequency its on but any of that red text is pretty much impossible to read even with my hand cupped around it. I really wish they provided some menu option to change that red text color. Might check one of these out regardless.
Can users update the firmware of this new Baofeng UV-25? This radio sounds very good indeed. My radios are two Tidradio TD-H3 and the QRZ-1 Explorer a reworked TYT TH UV88. The TYT TH UV88 speaker sound quality is heads and shoulders better than TD-H3. Also, the reception is better, less scratchy, than the TD-H3. My EDC for ham is the QRZ-1 Explorer, for GMRS the TD-H3. You mentioned Blairsville, trees are turning I can imagine it is beautiful there. We are South of Woodstock. 73
How come on Amazon there are 10w and 11w versions? The 10W seems to TX on the three bands, whereas the 11w shows dual band TX. And you are saying the smaller of the two antennas is the better of the two? When these radios first came out, I created a cheat sheet guide and had the commands to set repeaters memorized. With a little practice, it's like solving a Rubik's Cube, it's just automatic. Thanks for the video.
Yes there are different versions. Mine actually is 11W and does 220. There are many different models with several different accessories that may or may not be included. I only program using Chirp and the Standard Beofung Cable, so I can't speak to manual programming. It is usually a nightmare to manually program any radio from the front.
@@StarShipAdventures can you please provide a link or a precise model number for the 11 watt that transmits on 220? I can only find 10 watt models that transmit on 220. The UV-25 models that are called Tri-Power (11watts) only receive on 220.

Wattage Equals Range and clarity! I have had folks on here already tell me that going from 5 to 11 watts makes little difference. I could not disagree more. Between the higher gain Antenna and the extra wattage this gets out much better than any of my other portables. I have tested it up against a 10 Watt (actually about 8 watts) TYT with a Tactical Antenna and the UV-25 blew it out of the water.
Now question are you able to see that display in the sunlight? That has been a big issue with the color screens anymore. Other than that it seems like it's a nice radio and I have nothing against Chinese radios in fact I own several
In my opinion, the extra power won't make much difference. When dealing with simplex communication, even going from 5 watts to 100 watts may not make a substantial difference because you're dealing with the limitations of physics and factors like line of sight and the curvature of the earth. Doubling the power results in a 3 dB increase, which translates to a 1.41x increase in signal strength. This 40% boost might help with reaching repeaters that are relatively close, say within 15-20 miles, where the signal is still strong. However, as you go further, the signal weakens exponentially due to path loss, so this increase in power is unlikely to make a meaningful difference when trying to reach a repeater 50 miles away.
Assuming you have LOS, 100W absolutely goes further than 5W so this is somewhat silly. Do your part as the radio opperator and the extra power will reward you with more distance and clarity at those distances
@@evocati6523 you seem to have missed the point. In most real world situations you're dealing with basic physics of the earth and LOS is a few miles at best. You can certainly find examples of people communicating long distances mountain top to mountain top, but that's the exception. While more power can help improve signal clarity and range within your line of sight, it doesn't change the fundamental limits of VHF/UHF simplex communication. These frequencies are line-of-sight, so the curvature of the earth and obstacles like mountains block the signal. Even if you boost power from 5W to 100W, it won't extend beyond those physical limits. Once you hit the horizon or an obstruction, no amount of power can overcome that. It's basic physics. When you have a 5W HT or a 10W HT isn't going to be a game change. The math says it's about a 40% increase in ERP but for most people in real world situations that's not a game changing amount.
I never said they were the best radios in the world. I said this new design is a game changer. I also said that Chinese Radios are improving every day and this is a huge leap forward.

2.5 db gain to what?
Do you really want 10/11 watts radiating close to your brain?
The long goose neck antenna allows you to keep safe separation!
These boofwengs are the best radios, in the world according to Randy as well. 😁
I never said they were the best radios in the world. I said this new design is a game changer. I also said that Chinese Radios are improving every day and this is a huge leap forward.
