THIS THE KINDA MACHINE RZA WOULD RACK A COUPLE LINES OR SMOKE ONE DURING THE LONG ASS LOADING SCREENS… SAY IM LYING. THATS WHY THE LOADING WASNT AN ISSUE FOR HIM LOL GAVE HIM SPACE TO THINK FOR A SECOND
I'll do a couple of lines of that powder to make that heat the RZA was making. That might be the missing ingredient I need. LOL! This is the best comment ever.
Ive recently purchased one again for the second time after selling my frist one about 8 years ago. The learning curve is definitely deep but the effects and sounds coming out of the machine cannot be denied
I bumped into your channel, RUclips knows I’m a fan of the Roland Mv. To be honest, you did pretty good for a newbie. Rza had trouble understanding it at first. Please don’t sell it. Plug up a VGa monitor to it, so you can get a bigger screen and color. The Roland 8800 already comes with color on the screen. This machine was the first to have Direct recording.
It had a dope lush sound to it. Rolands' sonics are definitely high quality! But even though it looks like an MPC, it's not. If you approach it like one you'll get frustrated. But if you learn it for what it is, then you'll love it.... Good Luck!💪🏾
Love this machine. I have the mv8800, though, and I use the mouse and monitor. It drives my whole set up and is a midi and sampling beast. Just wish it had more audio and midi outputs by default...but I have more than enough stuff that can mitigate all that
I've had mine since launch. I mastered it with the help of the forum MVNation back in the day! The forum no longer exist. I had a chance to buy the rights and keep it going, but I opted out. Just know it has 3 separate locations to adjust the swing/timing. This was one of the biggest issues for MPC users who couldn't wrap their heads around the timing or TC. It was actually more precise than any MPC of the time with the swing. Also, to get 16 Levels, push the "MultiLevel tab over the pads! Enjoy!!
With software version 3.54(the last update), the multilevel button above the pads only changes the velocity. @smiauu suggested in another comment that "there isnt 16 lvl pitching like in mpc but there is ”split” in patch edit screen that lets you assign sample chromatically to multiple pads." I'm determined to figure this out.
@@ppic7162 I'm sure there is a 16 level semitone pitch function. It's been a while since I've powered it on, but before I stick my chest out claiming that I'm right, I will double-check when I get home.
Yeah I was gonna mention the multilevel tab. You can spread stuff out like an mpc. Also, what are the locations for the swing? There's one on the recording input, one on the track. Where's the third one?
Happy New Year! I did that. It broke my spirit. I had such a hard time that I thought it was my last video. Here is the link. ruclips.net/video/aggZhfyCQhs/видео.html
fuck yes. always wanted to see your review of the mv. the learning curve is there but imo it isnt too bad. sequencing in pattern mode and assigning samples to patch will be enough to get u going. there isnt 16 lvl pitching like in mpc but there is ”split” in patch edit screen that lets you assign sample chromatically to multiple pads. where this machine excels is its sound, sequencer, effects and chopping
Thanks for the info. I couldn't figure that out for nothing. There aren't any videos about it either, that I could find. I might learn this and make a quick tutorial for other people.
"I'll Spell it for You" !! LMAOOOO I grabbed one earlier this summer (2024) for around the same price. Needless to say I have yet to mess with it because I'm so fascinated with the MPC's (I have a few). It's just so hard to break away. Thanks for the review. As long as I have it, it's not going anywhere and I'll get to it. LOL
Happy New Year my friend! The MV8000 series I’ve heard was a hard learning curve with those machines… I’ve heard they have great features and functionality- a lot of people believe there better than the MPC’s? I’ve never used one but I still have a hard time believing that lol. I think the overall size and look of the MV hurt its popularity but for $300 bucks to grab a working unit is a deal!
Original owner of MV8K. If you have the VGA & mouse card option installed it becomes its own environment, also making it easier to view options, edit and mix and finalize. Still a bit much sub menu diving though. The lack of speed on this & it's predecessor MV88K is what killed these.
Actually, is favorite was the Ensoniq EPS + 16 and then the Ensoniq ASR-10. He produced Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) and those solo members albums with those.
The MV 8000, is the MPC that was made by Roland instead of Akai, I'm told it has some more advanced features then the Akai MPCs released at the same time.
Enter the 36 chambers, Tical, 36 Chambers the dirty version, Liquid Swords and Uncontrolled Substance were all Ensoniq EPS 16+. The records that didn't do so well were Roland MV.
For anyone that is looking into getting one of these because it looks sort of like an MPC then I would suggest just getting an MPC. The MV 8000/8800 is its own thing and I think a lot of people see the pads and assume that it's going to be like one of the older MPCs. If you are set on getting one then try and get an 8800 model. That way you'll have the VGA and mouse input and that'll make things a bit easier. For any MV fans that think I'm hating or something, I'm not. I've owned one for a few years now and I like it. It's just that I've seen the same thing over and over again. Too many people not really understanding what it is that they're buying.
I'm super glad I bought the MV 8800 brand new for $1500 back in 07 / 08 & barely used cause it was a lil hard to understand as my 1st gear. I'm have to bring it back out of my closet
I've seen people use it with a monitor and mouse, but I didn't notice any vga connections on the back. Will you try using it with a monitor and mouse before selling it?
The vga expansion is only $119 on Reverb. I don't think I have a monitor to test it. I do have a VGA to DVI cable. I might need an HDMI adapter. It's not worth it at this point. This looks like a nightmare to open it up and install it. I want to get away from the DAWS and back to standalone, hands on completely.
@@ppic7162 The main connection is just plug and play after you take the cover off the back. The new vga/mouse port uses the same 2 screws. The monitor and mouse make things much easier. Workflow is nothing like a MPC but definitely worth learning for the big sound of the MV
That thing is definitely a beast and looks like a serious learning curve with huge benefits once accomplished. I'm a 2000xl guy and will stick right where I am....no fx and all 😂
Back in the day.... I had a Roland VS-1680, wit my MPC 3000. I said if there was a machine that could combine the 2 somehow....🤔 Roland's drum machine approach is not like Akai's that's where it missed.... Because it looks like a MPC, it's hard not to approach it like one. But whatever you do.... DON'T HOOK UP THAT MOUSE AND KEYBOARD OPTION!!!!😂😂😂 It'll put your workflow and creativity in the toilet!!!💩
Look on it as Fruity Loops in a box. And MPC 2000/2500 on the side. Sample compatible I believe. Ad on an VS-24xx something recorder that matches. Although sluggish, it has potential for the best daw in a box a decade ago.
And get the adat option, monitor screen and mouse (not sure if you need the R-Bus adapter, senseless if you don’t have a VS-2480 but I think it’s included with the adat in or out port I forget)

The learning curve isn't steep, it just looks intimidating. The mouse opens the entire thing up. If you love the 8000, imagine that 8800!

To play samples chromatically (aka multi-level pitch), just check the "make keyboard" box when using quick assign or assigning a sample to a patch.

See about it booting from a SD to speed it up. Also hook up the VGA and mouse.
