Anita was the soundtrack of an era. Unapologetically urban and grounded in an unmistakeable gumbo of blues, jazz and soul genres with a sound that viscerally captured people with an across the country. Her rich contralto and warm phrasing were impeccable. Plus, it didn’t hurt she was so cute. Unfortunately, modern public taste rarely demands the music industry to find, develop and promote such talent but fortunately, we have recordings and live performances for those who choose actual singers over trendy entertainers.
yup. She's definitly in the Last Wave Of Legends for sure.
Now its campy & brash autotuned mass hypnotic madness. poor kids today.
Hey @boomerface…please understand this is not a “put down”, it’s simply an observation & not meant to be offensive- it’s just my opinion. Compared to the comments I’ve read about this video, your comment stands out as though written by a public relations representative or possibly was AI generated ? I always say “to each her own”- & hell yeah, I love everything about Anita !😁🎶
Her mezzo soprano voice is great, with her lower register unmatched. True not songs like this now, but think her influence will have long impacts
She is my favorite of all time; “Compositions” is near and dear to my heart because of it being released the same year of my birth! I always enjoy watching vintage interviews from her heyday, looking so eloquent and zestful. Please release more content!
This song lives rent free in my head
The Elektra label has had such artists and groups signed as Anita herself, Tracy Chapman, The Doors, Queen, The Cars, Natalie Merchant and I believe at one time The Cure, to name a few.
Please upload more Anita. This is fantastic.
I've never heard of this show, let along seen this interview. I'm enamored and pleasantly joyous.

This was the most beautiful song I ever heard her sing I damn near cry listening to it on disc radio etc but to see her and hear it..Man this got me way up there…
This rare recording is so fabulous.
Thankfully Nita really started feeling it half way through 🔥🔥🔥
33 years later today and I'm still not hearing Anita Baker sing her song on her on Master's now
I've been wanting to see Anita Baker in concert seen 1987. Anita Baker is my all time artist with her great pianist . I cried when her concert in Raleigh N.C. was canceled on my birthday . I love her & husband relationship . I don't know anything about the relationship.
