Oh man!!! Now I'm definitely gonna have to count them!! Luckily I think the carrying capacity in this bin is probably less than 500!! Thanks for stopping by to watch AV!!
Congratulations to your brother!!!! Nice gathering for his ceremony. When I was stationed at Ft Benning GA, we would go down to Florida, sleep on some beach and eat at the Naval Air Station mess hall, had a lot of fun down there. I have been using leaf mold from my leaf mold bin for bedding in my worm bins. I always drop a handful of red wigglers in the new bin in the fall, now every time I grab some bedding I am adding fresh worms . Looked like a jumping worm to me, unfortunately I am all to familiar. Just keep an eye for jumping worms in that bin down the road. Recent information notes not all the JW's cocoons hatch out within a short amount of time, some cocoons can take up to 4 years to hatch out, lovely little darlings. Look forward to the progression of your new bin, perhaps this bin could collect some stickers too. Nice video Patrick. Stay Well!!!!
Thank you Brian!! He served 26 years! Lots of good beach line down in that area!! That's a great system you have going there with the leaf mold. I'll be on the look out for any more jumping worms...there were lots of unidentified wisps in here!! This micro bin could be the side car to my Tiny Traveling Worm Bin!!😂 Thanks so much for stopping by to watch!!🪱🪱🪱
I have 2 "regular" worm bins and a 3rd one that is a 5 gallon bucket stashed in a far corner of the back yard. It's in the far corner of the yard because I use it to compost all the no no items that you shouldn't put in a regular worm bin or compost pile. Things like cheese, leftover rice and pasta. I do have small holes in the bottom, sides and top. And guess what this bucket has turned into...another worm bin! And they are the biggest, fattest worms around! :) I bet your tiny new worm bin will be just as big a success!
That is incredible Lisa!! I want to try this soooooo bad!! Maybe I can do it without Autumn knowing...she can't read this comment😂🤣😂 Seriously...I'm gonna try this!! Thanks so much for sharing your secret naughty no, no worm bin & of course thanks for watching!!🪱🪱🪱

Thank you!! I just had to when I was turning my compost pile and saw all those red wigglers!! Thanks so much for stopping by to watch & for all your support!!🪱🪱🪱
A fifth worm bin! 😂 I like it. Me, been harvesting our third 110 gallon outdoor bin past few days and lots more to process. The worms in there were going thru the food scraps faster than we can provide. So, may go down to just two big ones for now. I will fill up my extra one with leaves and other material to break down over winter. Seeing lots of wisps and young worms mostly as I separate them out. 🪱🪱🪱🪱
That is fantastic!! And a lot of work!! I'm surprised you were able to keep up as well as you did with food scraps for those huge worm bins!! Always great to see the wisps and young worms when you're harvesting!! Thanks for the update Ann!!!🪱🪱🪱
Nice new bin Patrick. I actually did something similar. I recorded a few feedings for my master gardener class, I will be doing a talk in mid October. Started with 30, in about 10 months I counted 600 worms.
30 to 600 worms!!! That is a great population growth rate!! I have a feeling I'll be counting this micro bin at some point in the future!! I was wondering if you had been putting your Master Gardner credentials to work with vermicomposting classes!! Thanks so much for watching Rick!!🪱🪱🪱

So Tiny has an outdoor twin! Excellent!Watermelon was the perfect feeding for that micro worm bin. I would actually be more concerned about it getting too dry than too wet because of the low volume of bedding. The compost didn't look too moist going in there. ~ Sandra
Yes!! The Tiny Worm Bin and I are so excited....Autumn, not so much!!😂 Moisture is definitely going to be the most important parameter in this Micro Worm Bin!! The cameras didn't do a good job of catching the moisture level...the paper towel was soaked and the compost material was so smeary that I had to stop mid video and wipe my gloves off before I got back into the Tiny Worm Bin. I'll definitely be keeping my eye on it getting too dry during these first few checkins!! Thanks so much for watching & for your excellent inputs Sandra!!🪱🪱🪱

Newbie contemplating vermiculite- 1. when finding worms as working current garden dirt, is it okay to toss them into a box of dirt that will be starting with? Will they acclimate to being crowded or just bad idea all the way around? 2. I’m assuming not a good idea to do buns inside due to mites potentially invading the dirt??
Earthworms are generally divided into three types of worms. Epigeic or composting worms that live in the top duff layer of soil or leaf litter. They don't mind being crowded together or confined. Endogeic or your common garden or lawn earthworm. They live in the top few inches of soil, are more solitary and you really only see them if it rains. And finally Anecic or burrowing earthworms that have more permanent burrows and take food down below with them. Most worm you find in your garden are not compost worms. They may or may not survive real well in a worm bin and they probably won't reproduce and give you a lot of castings like compost earthworms. Mites in a worm bin will not harm your garden...there are thousands of species of mites and the kinds that are in a worm bin only eat dead or decaying matter...they are not pests in your garden and will most likely die off if any are left in your worm castings under the harsh conditions of a garden in the sun or indoor plants with the dry air of a home and the lack of a food source for them. I hope this helps!! Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱

Hey, awesome video as always. EP should be arrested for theft for stealing your brothers hat 😂😂 I wanted to ask, in the few years that you have been working with worms, what are the top 3 mistakes you made in the beginning that you would teach others not to make? Good luck on your future videos!
😂 Yep, she's a scalawag!! That is a great question!! And an easy question for me...I actually talk about my worm journey in this video: ruclips.net/video/w1GMc5-RRbk/видео.html I screwed up big time when I started worm farming again! So my 3 biggest mistakes were...1. Overfeeding...2. Checking on them too often...3. Starting with too few worms. I used a fairly smallish container a little bigger than my Tiny Traveling Worm Bin and about 30 red wigglers which I kept adding more to in batches of 30 until I got to 90. I fed the what I thought was a reasonable feeding and I checked on them probably 3-4 times a day. Each time I couldn't tell if they were eating, so I'd give just a little bit more. After a while I started to smell ammonia type smells and some of the worms were dead. I tried to take out the food and the dead worms but the smell got worse and worse. Finally I separated out which worms I could see were still alive, gave them a "bath" and threw them in a bucket I had been collecting weeds in and left them alone outside in the fall Florida air...4 months later it was teaming with worms and I used them to start my Outdoor Worm Bin!! So I would say my best advice, to undo what I did, would be to start with at least 500 worms (you are right there so no worries), feed them a tiny amount...and leave them alone for 5 days before you check on them again to feed again. Of course, damp bedding, leave the lid off for 48-72 hours with a light on etc. but those three were my biggest mistakes!! I bet a lot of worm farmers would have at least 2 out of my 3 similar top three mistakes they made early on!! Thanks for dropping by to watch again!!🪱🪱🪱
Just when I thought my Micro worm bin was small, you've got yourself a breeding Nano worm bin!!! I wonder what the carrying capacity of that bin is!! Thanks so much for stopping by to watch!!
Speaking of is been about 14 days since I fed my worms. I should probably give them some foods. Hopefully those mites don't come back. Pests are never fun.
Perfect timing!! This bin always seems to show more mites than my big ones, probably because it holds moisture so well all over...The Executive Producer keeps telling me to take the plastic of!! Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱
