Planning a cruise? Get The Ultimate Cruise Planner. It's a 47 page printable cruise travel planner with packing checklists, shore excursion planning forms and much more! ($10 off for a limited time). Here are the details: lifewellcruised.com/ultimate-cruise-planner/
I'm going on my first cruise at the end of November. I'm starting that healthier eating -- and workout -- plan NOW. I want to be in shape to do all that walking and all those activities, and I plan to eat my way from one end of the ship to the other!
That's funny, I hope that went well...... 🤭
I would like to add to your number 7- we have a dog sitter that stays at the house. No matter how you board or plan for your pet I advise contacting your vet and leaving a credit card on file for emergencies and make sure that the person watching your pet has authorization with the vet for treatment. Trust me please. We were in St Thomas and one of our dogs had kidney failure and nearly died. Thank goodness I had planned ahead!
That’s a great point, especially when you’re less accessible on a cruise. I’m sorry to hear about your dog :(
Haven’t thought of this, thank you
You are sooo helpful! I’m going on my first cruise and want to be prepared and all your videos are so helpful ❤️
I’m really glad this was helpful! Please let me like if you have questions :)
I am also doing my first cruise in September and also love your videos
I love that I'm watching this video for tips...for my 6th cruise in 10 years.
One thing I always do with Celebrity is to order my luggage tags. Usually about 30-45 days before the cut off date. And I do miss the old days when you’d get the spiral bound book with all the cruise documents, tags, and shore excursions information. This made for a nice way to remember the trip. 🚢😎
This is a great idea! I agree, the physical books were enjoyable
60 days ahead of my cruise date I looked through dresses in my closet. I rediscovered three cocktail dresses that I had forgotten about. Not only are they perfect for the cruise, but all three can go with one pair of heels, so it saves room in my suitcase!
I love your cruise planner. Thanks for all of the hard work that you put into it.
Great idea! Formal and cocktail dresses often stay in style (I keep almost all of mine for years). I’m so glad you like the cruise planner! Thanks so much for your lovely feedback and purchase Sandi :)
Great tips! As a first time cruiser I’m finding your videos so helpful
I’m so glad they’re helpful for you :)
I would add one thing to this very good list . . . research and purchase good travel insurance. (We have found that the insurance offered by the cruise lines is usually less coverage for a higher cost than third party insurance.) We actually do this almost immediately after booking. If I recall correctly, you usually have to purchase your travel insurance within 14 days of your first payment (aka deposit) if you don't want coverage for any preexisting conditions you may have to be excluded from your policy.
When checking to see if the prices went down before your final payment, ask your travel consultant if taking the lower rate will effect your previous perks from your origional booking.I could have saved about $200 on my upcoming cruise but I would have lost the free $500 casino cash, a $29 specialty dining voucher ,and a cabin upgrade so I left it alone .On my 2019 cruise, I saved $600 before final payment but lost the OBC of $200. I happlily took that deal as I still made
out.😊
Great idea!
Awesome tips thank you!!!
I love this video! I just purchased the ultimate cruise planning guide as well
Excellent.
Thank you! I have a cruise next month! Is my first cruise ever I am so excited! I can’t wait
Check in at the earliest possible moment to ensure early boarding.
I am so happy that I have been watching your channel for a while. I was following along with you during this video and I feel like I am very well prepared for our upcoming cruises.
I’m so glad to hear the videos have helped you to feel more prepared! Have a wonderful cruise 🎉
If you're going to be buying walking / hiking shoes, buy them early and start wearing them now, to break them in, and make sure they are comfortable.
Thank you so much for all your help with packing list. We bought it. Going on cruise this Saturday and staying overnight in Charleston SC. Those list were sooooo helpful. Don’t know what I would have done without it. Thanks for thinking detail❤️
I’m so glad the cruise planner was helpful to you! Have a wonderful cruise!! 🎉🎉
So helpful! I am taking my first cruise this summer after 2 years of delays. I called and checked on prices since I am getting ready for final payment next week. With that call, the cruise line now owes me!
That’s amazing! I’m so happy for you!
Great reminders. I love the outfit packing ideas.I have a cruise in 33 days so had better start thinking .
How fun!!
Your videos help me fill comfortable with being prepared for a cruise and the tips!!! So useful. I going on my first cruise next year for my birthday. Bringing my own decor for my room. I’m excited
Thanks! I have 'post cruise blues' so these are helpful.
Post cruise blues are the worst!! But live in those memories and hold that energy until the next one :)
Thanks, llana, Here in Puerto Rico, flew in today and the cruise is Sunday! I truly appreciate everything you do and the great information! ❤❤
How exciting!! Have an amazing cruise 🎉
Another helpful video- thank you! We are 9 days out from our first cruise and I am SO excited. Organization is my thing, so I’m very excited to be using many of the items you’ve linked in other videos (beach bag, heavy duty hooks, travel alarm clock etc). Your videos have helped me to feel VERY prepared! 💙
I’m so glad the videos & tips have been helpful! So exciting that your cruise is almost here. Have an amazing time 🎉
Love the Ultimate Cruise Planner. I keep one master copy and then create a separate planner for each cruise in a 1/2 inch binder. I have tailored down the pages for the cruise specific binder. Also allows me to go back and revisit if we are sailing on the same ship (or class of ship) again or the same port of calls. As usual awesome video and tips. THANK YOU!!!
Such a smart idea! Thanks so much for sharing & for your purchase Fred :)
Thank you Ilana for mentioning the eat healthier 60 days before your cruise! I thought I was the only one to do this...So glad I'm not alone on this! Lol.I made up a personalized packing list a few year's ago and made many copies of it. It makes it so much easier to pack.
Haha I’m glad it’s not just me either!! Smart to keep making copies of your packing list
Good tip but I found that it pays to eat healthfully all the time and when eating somewhat " a little unhealthful" on the ship and daily exercise you don't gain the weight and the body remains in check! It's an amazing machine God gave us.
Your not alone. I will be going on my first ever cruise in September. I'm so excited. I also have started my healthy eating and moving more now.
Ilana - I have watched this video twice and both times I caught something I had not added to my packing list. This time - binoculars - not sure how I missed those on my list since my 34 day Island Princess cruise May 26 includes 16 days cruising the Norwegian Fjords, so thank you.
I’m new to the channel I am now 57 days. Thank you for sharing ❤❤
Great advice. In January we got upgraded and a large amount of money back. Our Alaska cruise in June went down in price as well. We received enough money back that we paid for our excursions.
That’s wonderful!! Thanks for sharing
3 months out. First cruise on Celebrity for both my husband and I (I cruised HAL in 2018). I have been binging your videos and so appreciate your vibe and all your great tips. Informative but not patronizing or pushy. I feel like your tips will save us headaches and help us make the most of our 7 days Western Caribbean cruise
Hi Illana! I love your videos and they've been a great help as I prepare for a last-minute cruise next week. I just booked the cruise this past Sunday (8 days ahead!) and I also booked my airfare through the cruise site at the same time. I'm cruising on Princess and their EZAir feature made searching for cruise-specific flights really easy. I originally was pricing out airfare on both JetBlue and Expedia and it turned out that the flights offered through the EZAir feature were the cheapest! However, the flights do include a 1hr layover, whereas the flights I priced out individually were non-stop. But the airfare was so much cheaper (~$607 RT Boston to Fort Lauderdale on JetBlue vs. $485 RT on American via EZAir), that I was willing to do a layover. Just thought I'd share that with you!!
Great to hear! Thanks so much for sharing and have an amazing cruise!
As always, great ideas Illana. We are flying to Panama two days before our cruise in order to be well rested and do some sightseeing. I also have my toiletries packed away in a packing cube, ready to go. I've also decided to pack the clothes & essentials I'll need for Panama & embarkment day in my hand luggage so I'm not having to open my bigger suitcase with my cruise clothes et in it. ❤️
Great smart planning!! I love the idea of using the packing cubes for your toiletries too
Remember the TSA rules for liquids in carry on luggage.
Excellent tip about having a healthier lifestyle prior to the cruise. I'm 60 days out now and will start today!
Great advise ! Saved $600 on our Alaskan cruise when I checked prices just before our final payment. Set to sail Princess May 31 2022.
That’s awesome!!
Thank you for your tips. The one tip I found out was for any special accommodations, royal requires 60 days. I was thrilled to find this out since it’s usually a challenge and awesome to know that the disabled are being included.
I’ve been on many cruises prior to my upcoming British Aisles cruise. I was going to skip this, believe myself to seasoned and practiced. Well, I was wrong. (I’m a husband. I’m used to it) You pointed out many items I had not yet considered. To further help, I will be downloading your pre-cruise checklist. Thank you for being the thorough planner that you are!
Thanks Jeffrey for your comments, feedback and sense of humour! I’m glad the video was helpful even for a seasoned cruiser. Thanks for your purchase:)
My husband and I are going to Alaska this September. We were looking at different excursions and realized we needed new hiking boots. We already started to break them in by walking in our neighborhood.
BTW love 💕 your channel!
Great idea! Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words :)
Great ideas! Having worked for an airline, personally, I do not recommend the four wheeled luggage for things you will check on an airline in spite of their handiness. I found numerous broken wheels while working their and this will not be paid for by the airline if broken. Should one of the two on the handle side break, really not good!
Wow, that’s not good - great to have the insight! Thanks for letting us know
You also lose a surprising volume of space with the 4 wheels as they must fit within the maximum permitted dimensions for your airline - a two-wheeler with recessed wheels or a duffle/backpack waste so much less space. I'm currently researching for a new case and the difference can be 10 litres or more which is a lot (a couple of pairs of shoes!) if you are trying to go carry-on only.
I started my preliminary packing yesterday.
I have absolutely loved watching and learning from all of your videos on what to do before my cruise, what to wear, 50 hacks, and how to organize my cabin! I have purchased many items off your linked Amazon items!! Hopefully, that helps you out too. I am bringing my laptop and paid for the browse and stream service on the MSC Meraviglia, I don't think you have been on that cruise line/ship yet, but maybe you may know where on a cruise I can go and work in a "work-type atmosphere" or is that something that will need to happen in my room only? I keep googling working on a cruise and I only get a business center that looks like a small theater, and not what I am thinking of when I think of a business center.
Thank you so. much for making all of these videos! and if you need any help with math, I have a Math with Nichole Greco youtube page that has some very basic (order of operations) lessons that help out people when they need to refresh their math skills. I only say that to try and "repay" you back with the knowledge I have since you have educated me so much on a "Life Well Cruised".
I’m so glad the videos have been helpful, and appreciate your tips as well! Emma Cruises was just on MSC, so she may have some insight into your question. Sounds like you have a wonderful channel for those who need math help. Great job 👏
Booked Flight by Celebrity for upcoming Europe cruise. Brilliant choices and pricing. And the fare is covered until the cruise with confidence so we can get total refund 48 hrs before cruise. It is truly the way to go, especially in these travel times.
This is great to hear! I agree these times are just more complicated and overall the prices and options are good
i’m so excited, i’m here 6 months before
it’s been 7 years since my last cruise
I'm an hour away from the cruise port, so I leave my car in a garage. Reserving/prepaying a parking spot is a smart thing to do a few months before.
Great idea!
I just re-watched this video in preparation for our upcoming Canada-New England cruise on Enchanted Princess. Final payment is due Sunday and this reminded me to check to see if the fare had changed. It had dropped and we ended up saving almost $500! Thanks. Ilana!
Amazing! So happy for you 👏
Omg I wish I did # 5 I'm 30 days out and just now I'm cutting back but lu ckly I fit indome stuff and I'll probably loose what I'm going to gain, lol I love your videos they are so helpful
Haha, I know it’s a struggle some months 😂
I always book my air with Princess. It helps make the trip seamless.
Good idea
I have been on a cruise before and had a travel agent but this time I booked it myself. Now I am freaking out bc I feel so lost about taking the right COVID test, when I will get emails for luggage tags, when to fill out COVID survey, when I should receive boarding passes, making sure I have the right address to the right port, making sure I pick the right parking garage etc. I think I made a mistake doing this on my own. I’m watching all your videos and getting some good tips so thank you!
Oh goodness. I know a TA can help a lot. However if you look on the cruise line website you should find the info. Just take it one step at a time
Great tips. 60 to 90 days before my cruise, I place each outfit I am thinking of taking for all of us on a hanger and photograph them. I download the photos and put them in a folder on my computer. I match an outfit to each day and night of the cruise. Of course, doing this so early, I have the option to make many changes, which I do numerous times. This method works for us and alleviates overpacking.
Wow I love this!!
I love this too.
Really great idea
Doing a transatlantic, NYC to Civitavecchia, in April. Booked 4 days pre cruise and 7 days in Rome after the cruise. Start looking for the excursions. Will book the airline tickets this week directly with the airlines because we have credits from canceled flights due to Covid. We have 3 other cruises coming this year and we took the flights with the cruises.
Quick tip for Rome - book your Vatican tickets online on the official site well in advance - the queues for on-the-day tickets can be horrendous and the touts charge massivly inflated prices for quicker access. And buy blister pads when you get there - Rome is best seen on foot.
@@susansmith864 Thanks for the info. We are planning to go with a tour guide.
Have a wonderful cruise!
I havn't started the "eat healthier." I always try that and fail. doh. Our cruise in in June and we have been doing beginner yoga, walking on the treadmill and some light weigh lifting. We want to be able to walk, do shore excursions and avoid injury. Mostly sedentary life we have. I hope this inspires us to continue even after the cruise.
I booked in October and have been buying stuff all along. We are taking our son's too. I have been saving money by buying one bottle of sunblock on amazon's subscribe and save a month. 15% off. So far I have 3 bottles and am aiming for 5. One bottle each and a spare. I'm probably the only crazy person to plan this much, though LOL.
Love the tips in your video's. I have magnetic hooks, over the door hangers, the pop up clothes bins etc.
Thanks for sharing your tips and experiences! Great idea to actually get in shape for the activities you have planned. It’s true so many of us have been fairly sedentary for at least the last 2 years
Hi Alana! With the lessening uncertainty, we're looking for increased peace of mind and are trying Flights by Celebrity and Hotels by Celebrity. We like the idea of "one throat to choke" and the prices and selection seemed good (...geez, some major city European hotels in early fall weekends are really expensive). One word of warning, if you get a flight change / protection, don't assume that there is a holistic view of your entire vacation. We realized that our return flight (everything thru Celebrity) moved a day early / onto our last sea day. It was fixed, but we were a bit surprised that holistic Celebrity (cruise +flight + hotel) didn't catch this. That said, Celebrity's Flights By Celebrity Air-to-Sea staff are great to deal with...
Interesting point & warning to look out for. Good to hear the feedback about celebrity hotels
Thank you for creating these videos. I am going on my first cruise and I have found your videos very helpful. Definitely 2 thumbs up!!
I’m so glad these are helpful as you plan!
Love your video... just a heads up.we do book flights with the cruise line..as in the past with cover when things and airlines were
Canceled no issue with refunds..full refund with ship...it's a good thing.
Great point and more than ever, I think this is a good idea
Ilana, my wife and I really appreciate all your videos..especially ones of Celebrity Equinox. We are going on it the 21st of May. Quick question. Were u able to text in your stateroom with the wifi ur provided? Also is there a second outlet behind tv to plug a firestick into?
If you can take the train to the city you’re cruising out of. The earliest you book your train ticket, the cheaper they are and if you decide to get a roomette or room on the train if you will be traveling overnight, they tend to sell out early.
Another thing to do in this time frame is if you need distilled water and an extension cord for a cpap machine you can request it in advance(it should be free) so you don't add to the work of your room steward on day one! Embarkation and dembarkation are the two hardest days for room stewards!!
Very good point. Thanks for mentioning it
Hi Ilana, with Celebrity cruises, Flights by Celebrity allows you to book a cruise 330 days before your cruise. A hint is to wait until 330 days before the final day of your cruise. When I searched 330 from the first day of our December 12th 2022 cruise, it said no information was available. But when i seached 10 days later, 330 days from the last day of the cruise, it gave to and from flight information and great prices. Hi from Bob and Jill in Connecticut
That’s awesome! Great tip for celebrity cruisers!!
Cruise line air does tend to be a bit lower - BUT your ticket is park of bulk air that the cruiseline is holding with the airline. We used Royal and Celebrity's air service, and in both cases, our flights kept changing, we had almost no control over our seat selection. For example we originally had a flight that left at a reasonable 2pm. It got changed to a 7am flight. That means we have to get up at 4am. SO we have decided to never again book through the cruiselines. We want complete autonomy with our flights. In both cases, we were not 'Ticketed" until a month before our saildates. I found that extremely stressful.
If it’s not already in your 30 day video, I would add putting a hold on your mail or getting with a neighbor to pick up your mail, while you were gone.
Good idea! I think it’s in my 30 day, but now I have to check 😂
For me, within a couple months before I also join the Facebook group for that cruise, purchase bottled water for the room and get my internet packages taken care of.
Great ideas! I especially like the one about joining the Facebook group. Always helpful info!
I love your swimsuit coverup. Where can I get a nice one that is a little longer over the knee?
Hello hey I've heard you mention a visa and I'm very curious as to what those are. Are they like passports or are they different and Can you walk me though getting my very first passport and visa because I've never done it before and would love to know the process it takes in doing so also I'm mentally handicapped so I need it explained in simple terms. Could you make a video on this subject please and Thank you. I really love your videos :)
Thanks for the reminder of checking passport expiration date! I’m good yet I have to remember expiration date within the 6 months if I plan a cruise next year and get minds renewed and back in time!
Do you have any information on how cruise lines are handling the “REAL I D ( state license verification like a passport)? Are cruise ships allowing boarding using the real I.d. cards in lieu of a passport or birth certificate
Reference baggage... the two-wheeled variety (rollaboard) is more durable and will hold more stuff than the four-wheeled variety (for the same overall dimensions). This is why airline crews almost exclusively use two-wheeled bags. Some travelers still prefer the four-wheeled bags (spinners), which is fine, but should be aware of the limitations.
Thanks. You’re the second person to mention this - good to consider
I always stay overnight before my cruise. Unfortunately when I made my hotel reservations I didn’t double check the hotel. I thought I had chosen the hotel by the airport and somehow I was way out from the pier. Cost me a lot to go back and forth. Plus it was in a sketchy area. Hotel didn’t even have a sliding door, luggage cart or shampoo. I was given a map to find my room and went the longer route. The free breakfast was an 8 ounce water, a granola bar and a muffin that you pick up in a bag at the desk. All this for almost $200. Never again. I pack everything but my outer clothes. I still didn’t pack enough of some items and I had to wash I my cabin sink. Yes I could have them do my laundry but I’m not sending out my underwear. I don’t care that it’s free.
I have used the luggage tag holders for years and they are so much easier and I don’t worry that they will come off.I make lists of what I need.
Oh no! Thanks for sharing your hotel issue. It’s true location makes a difference
Wonderful video. I believe you mentioned that you had worked in the industry. Do you still work in travel?
So glad you enjoyed the video! I don’t sell cruises on the channel:)
If booking airfare through the cruise line, do they have options to arrive a couple days before and day after? We assumed they locked itinerary down to cruise dates.
Hi Ilana
I enjoy your videos, my wife & I are unvaxed Canadians, cruising from Florida in November, would you know if we can cross the border by car ,we enjoy having a car when we are south, any help is appreciated.
I’m honestly not sure. I’ve heard mixed experiences on this. I think this must be a US entry law, so perhaps check on the US website for entry requirements
Question! For excursions, do we need to sort through which ones will actually work with our ships arrival/leaving time or are all guaranteed? One port we arrive at 2pm but there are options for 6-7hour excursions but the time for the ship being at that port is 2pm-8pm? Why offer excursions if we wouldn’t be able to do them?
If it’s an excursion that’s available to book, the times should fit the ship schedule. If it’s on the cruise line options for you, perhaps the times will be adjusted later. We had this on one excursion that changed for us
Booked our flight and hotel thru expedia for far less then the cruiselines air prices.
I bought your planner for my first cruise in August, but was hoping it had suggestions for the pre-cruise checklist. Do you have that information on your site?
I could create one as suggestions - like this and the other 2 videos (30 days and 7 days) and add it to my website. The list in the planner is blank to personalize, but if it helps to have more concrete ideas I’m happy to. I’ll put this on my website next week. Thanks for your purchase:)
Trying to lose winter pounds now!
I’ll would love very much to plan a small group with you guys, I’m single and every time cost me double the sailing ⛵️ cruises 🚢 and all my savings goes away with the double expense, I live on South Beach in Miami, even you can stay at my place if you like guys before embarcación and have fun in the are the day before, take as a trade and everything will be even…jajaja
I have a question for you :) on check in day, if I do it on the royal Caribbean app, does each individual on a same room have to do its own? for example: my husband and I, we are both on the same reservation, does he have to do check in also on his phone? or just me will do it for the two of us? Its our first cruise, I want. to do it right and you are very knowledgeable! Thank you
Good question! You can do it for everyone in the cabin
I previously purchased your planner but I am unable to locate the download. Is there a way for me to find that or a name to look for?
I was wondering if I can book excursions without going through the cruise line.
Hi Deb, yes you can book excursions on your own, not through the cruiseline. We use our On Board Credits for our excursions (which are pricier through the cruise ship).
Yes you can, just be careful with the tour company and time to be back on the ship
My favorite cruise advice channel. Thank you! Cruising in three weeks!
Thanks Heather! So exciting that your cruise is almost here 🎉🎉🎉
In the USA. We are having. Nightmares. With renewing passports. Use to be 4 to 6 weeks. Currently. 3 + months. Getting better. But not worth headache
Omg! I didn’t know it was that long now!!
I’m sure each case is different but my parents and my in-laws just renewed their US passport for our upcoming cruise and I was surprised of how quickly they got it back. Possibly 4 to 5 weeks.
Do you have to have a passport to cruise?
What do you need to do 6 months before an Alaskan cruise
This is a good topic I can go over in a future video. Thanks for the suggestion
I just bought the ultimate cruise planner. How do I unzip it and print it?
Hi Lynn, please send me an email at lifewellcruised@gmail.com and I’ll help you out :)
Is there free wifi?
Unfortunately wifi isn’t free on most cruise lines
I attempted to book my pre cruise hotel package and they ask for the time to pick you up from the hotel to the port. I'm going on Royal Caribbean in September and the on line check in is in August. Is this too late to book through go port?
I’d give them a call or send an email. I don’t think it would be too late. What cruise are you doing?
Hi. I paid for the cruise booklet you offer and I can not get it to download. Can I have a little help with this please?
Never mind. I figured it out. Hey I’m not very computer savvy but I’m learning
Absolutely Jennifer. Please send me an email at lifewellcruised@gmail.com and I’ll send you a direct link. Thanks for your purchase!

I make a full payment and now the price drop and they dont gave me any credit on board or upgrade 😭
Unfortunately after final payment there isn’t an obligation
Booking flights through Princess was actually cheaper than booking directly through Southwest
Great to hear!

If you are sailing on Princess make sure you order your medallions 😎
