Im in trouble with the boss ... im not meant to be on RUclips at work and my sneeky set-up was discovered because I laughed so hard i started crying . . .Worth it
You needed to go one step further, gentlemen: How many square feet (or acres) of land does it take to produce the actual Grain that makes up a barrel, or a bottle, of Whiskey? (And why not get the same numbers for Corn and Bourbon?) And then, I expect that you will engage in yet another battle, to be held out in such a field! - j q t -
"A few pounds" is probably the most concise answer we've been given in whiskey question episodes, so can't say I'm disappointed. Loved the info, gents!
Guest appearance by Emma😍 Daniel and his love for science/maths, rex mooching whiskey while Daniel was being a Som. Plus Tube socks for the win in shenanigans. This episode had everything a magnificent bastard could've dreamed off!!😂😂
Its good to see real people do stuff they love. Spreading the great massage of whisky far and wide. Truly yall are tue ambassadors of whisky. You would make your forefathers proud.
I looked right over this thumbnail, then once I realized this actually WAS the Tribe vid. I was like, Has Rex officially run out of Ideas??? This is a TOTAL Daniel type thing. When Rex showed his face after 45 seconds into Daniels answer it was like looking into a mirror. Could this nerd travesty be saved? Only w/a a true reckoning can this debacle be resolved. A duel at high noon w the choicest of weaponry. Only the one w the true spirit of fun residing within shall prevail.... P.s. loved the trick photography of Daniel holding up regular bags of household flour to look like warehouse size bags of grain!
You two lunatics made my day with this video.🤣🤣🤣 Not only was it informative but the duel at the end was as epic as any member of the tribe could hope for. Well done.
If they would have taught math this way in school I would have paid far more attention! Furthermore the stunt whiskey, please tell me it was colored water in an Eleanor bottle please.
Also depends on grain used. Corn produces more fermentable sugar than malt or rye so a higher corn recipe would take less. BUT in general a grain mash will yield about 8% ABV but the distillation method (pot still or column) will have different yield. And you are correct there are yield losses at every step. For us about 1500 lbs yields a barrel (53 gallons) and we get 5 bottles per gallon (but then you have angel's share so again a variable). In general it takes a ST (shit ton) of grain to make a bottle and a lot of work!
In today's episode we learn that answering a simple question is not a simple task at times. We also learn that while Daniel and Emma may be a healthy weight... a mooch weight will always be more than most, because they are probably just made of more whiskey to begin with. And finally, Rex gets to do what every Texas film creator wants to do... and do a wild and rowdy Texas style showdown.... using grain filled tube socks and a bag full of liquid "whiskey".
I live in Alabama where moonshine is fairly easy to find. Some of it is pretty good actually. One of my friends' former bosses told him that he used to buy moonshine from an old moonshine maker who made it from grass clippings. My friend asked him if it was any good and he said that it was some of the best moonshine he ever tasted.
I've found that, on average, 3.9- 5.2 lbs of grain per bottle. Of course, malted barley being on the lighter side and rye in the heavier side, with corn falling in the middle somewhere.
LOVED the video for both science AND shenanigans! I almost fell out of my my hospital bed laughing at the "tittilating tube socks!" Watching them dangle reminded me of visiting the nursing home!! LOLOLOL 🤣😂
I am watching back episodes and I thought of something punishment related. The bottle of infinite punishment. An infinity bottle of intentionally conflicting drinks. To start you off with a theme, fireball, peppermint schnapps, and a rye. The kicker is to serve it in a cup that announces the punishment to those around. Such as affixed bells. That was actually the second punishment/possible idea. The first is a potent smelling whiskey flavored with durian. Is it possible to win against the smell of durian?
Top notch shenanigans today fellas. The duel was EPIC.
Im in trouble with the boss ... im not meant to be on RUclips at work and my sneeky set-up was discovered because I laughed so hard i started crying . . .Worth it
i lost my shit when we find out that Rex's weight in whiskey is the ultimate answer to life the universe and everything
Rex absolutely has the look of a drunken extra in a period western flick.
Hahaha that duel was awesome! It's probably worth mentioning cuts in this as well. That's going to make a HUGE difference how much grain is needed.
How would cuts on the end affect how much grain is used at the start🤔
@@oilpond this is old but, it makes sense if you're talking about "how much grain goes into this bottle"
Petition to have Daniel put out occasional videos doing deep dives on certain aspects of the whiskey world while wearing a lab coat?
Yes.
Yes, absolutely!

The things they do for science. We are blessed to have such people pioneering the world of whisk[e]y.
So many variables .... like filming an episode where employees keep popping in and out of your video 😂
I think you meant pooping
Sooo glad they kept that in too. It lets us in on a bit of the Chaos that may ensue during these shoots
I had no idea it took that much grain to make whisky, ... DAMN IT, .... you two made my brain learn stuff!
Okay I have fallen in love with you two and your whiskey channels, my god you are entertaining AND educational.
"A few pounds" is probably the most concise answer we've been given in whiskey question episodes, so can't say I'm disappointed. Loved the info, gents!
Educational and entertaining that’s why I love the whiskey tribe 😘
"Straight from the Shire," 😂😂

Thank you for validating and expanding the definition of what it means to be an adult
New subscriber here. You guys put a smile on my face with every damn video. Glad I found you!!
Imagine clicking this video because you wanted to learn and then you get to the last part of the video. Whiskey vs grain show down 😂. Damn I love this
LET THE GRAINS BEGIN!!!
Now this is the quality entertainment I look for in this channel. Well done, guys!
Wouldn't all of those calculations be easier to do in a...
(wait for it)...
SPREADSHEET!!!
Would a spreadsheet be as much fun to watch?
@@UsedBrain4U It would be fun to watch Rex watching Daniel make and go through a spreadsheet!
You guys are so funny!
Thank you for another teaching class! Keep going guys!
Regards from Brazil.
For some reason this episode reminded me of Mythbusters. Perhaps you can do a show on whiskey myths.
Its good to see real people do stuff they love. Spreading the great massage of whisky far and wide. Truly yall are tue ambassadors of whisky. You would make your forefathers proud.
I wish these guys were closer... I'd totally apply for a job!

Rex: “Hold!! This is for the thumbnail!”
*video uploaded*
Daniel: “Am I joke to you?”
Jon Clark Rex: yes.
Daniel is always the joke 😂

That was TOO much fun. Thanks for the great content and of course the vital information. We are for ever in your debt
Hey just wanted to say I'm loving the new lighting setup and 4K uploads! Your efforts have not gone unnoticed!
Pointing people to the Angel Share episode after 9 minutes of relatively straight-faced actual informative video is an interesting strategy.... hehehe
Possibly one of the greatest videos ever uploaded to Yourube
You two lunatics made my day with this video.🤣🤣🤣
Not only was it informative but the duel at the end was as epic as any member of the tribe could hope for. Well done.
Wow what an awesome edit/video!!!! THANK YOU!!!
Love me some Saturday shenanigans! Cheer's you Magnificent Bastards!
One of the most interesting shows that you EVER done! Finally some awesome info!

This is my favorite TribeVault video ever.
That fight scene was gold!
You guys are fired. Too much fun and shenanigans for a respectable producer of whisk(e)ys. I’ll kindly subscribe and make my way out.
Rex in a top hat looks like a character from Gangs of New York
Angel share, or people drinking on the job? That is the question :p
daniel infodumping while rex goes slowly mad is my aesthetic.

Current barley prices are around 4.50 a bushel. With 48 pounds to a bushel that puts the grain costs at about 40 to 60 cents per bottle
I've found that, on average, 3.9- 5.2 lbs of grain per bottle. Of course, malted barley being on the lighter side and rye in the heavier side, with corn falling in the middle somewhere.
Is this double distilled in a pot still ? What portion of the total distillate makes it into the bottle after heads-hearts-tails cuts ?
Really funny episode guys! Keep up the good work, sláinte from The Netherlands
Grate video guys
The leftovers are not lost
You can use IT asa aninal food
So you recover some money
You guys are great! Love the videos keep it up!
Mooch should have been the star of the matrix with moves like that
Random, Family man he is the one
As a Modern Arnis practitioner I would have had a lot of fun with the that challenge.
Informative and fun. Good show lads.
That’s what I’m talking about! That’s how you Tribe episode right there.
This whiskey joust needs to be an official olympic sport
He said “straight from the shire” 💀 💀🤣
I have to make this little drive from Houston to come see you guys.
15% Angel Share! I sense a Dunnage warehouse in the future.
The flipflops in the duel though
I would love for you to upload the part you sped up so I can hear all of the info about grain, yield, etc.
11:25 that moment it doesnt make it as the thumbnail! 😂😂 you guys are too funny!
That brewer was ready for this year
Apparently the Angels could give Rex some lessons in Mooching.
The best shenanigans ever!!!
I liked the shirt that Emma is wearing that I bought my own over a month ago when I toured the Angel's Envy distillery.
Tell us more Tom.
Texas angels must be hammered
and this is how the Austin Joker came to life. When Rex finally snapped
Good god, that was gold.
LOVED the video for both science AND shenanigans! I almost fell out of my my hospital bed laughing at the "tittilating tube socks!" Watching them dangle reminded me of visiting the nursing home!! LOLOLOL 🤣😂
Thank you always wonderd.
Educational and entertaining. I wish school was like this 😂
Hello darkness my old friend, love it 🥳

Can we please get an un-FUBARed version WITH the long explanation? some of us want that info ;)
Good work on the shenanigans, though, that was fun.
Do you work for the whiskey vault what is the whiskey Vault work for you?

Excellent content. Next, I want to know the approximate cost of producing each bottle!

Tee bagging for science, I love it.
From the makers of boxed wine, now, Bagged whiskey
Rebecca, i hate to inform you of this..... Fireball comes in a box too... bladder bag just like wine boxes on the inside........
@@monkey_breath yes, but it doesnt come in a loose trashbag
At this point i think any comment i have about loose bags or boxes are highly innapropriate, so i’ll bow out....
Wow, Daniel was holding almost his own weight in grain. Impressive
Jesus I thought my headphones where broke when yall made Daniel's voice fast forward 😂🤣😂
If you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying...
The shenannies are strong in this one.

Magnificent shenani-grains!!!
The sped up part had me DYING!!! Hahaha!
4:30 little did he know he'd need this again just a few months later.....
Most grains have close to 30 gravity points per pound per gallon of water.
About 7 pounds grain.
