Be careful Keith, we need you. That machine could crush your arm in a flash. .... (watched the rest of the video....) Oh shit. Keith, stay in the shop, it is safer. I wish you a speedy and complete recovery.
I thought the same as you when I saw his arm in a sling 🤣 Saying that, I was more glad that it wasn't his head from when he kept sticking his face in there lol Best wishes Keith 👍
When I watched it, I was thinking there is some OSHA guy screaming at the screen right now. His is only wife that has to tell her husband to go out to the shop to keep him safe.
I thought exactly the same when I saw him sticking his head and arm in the machine and when I saw his arm in a sling I also thought „shit it must be completely crushed“ but I wish you all the best Keith. Stay save
I keep telling my wife that yard work and other things on her honey-do list are dangerous and that I'm safer in the shop. It hasn't worked yet but maybe after watching this video she'll change her mind. Thanks for taking one for the team! Wishing you a quick and complete recovery.
Hi Keith, I’m a 78 year old hobbyist here in the UK and I’ve realised at my age I have to take a lot more care because I can’t do what I used to do although I think I can! I love your channel, I don’t think I’ve missed an episode in the last five years. Get well soon and keep safe. Best regards, John
First, take care of yourself and get well soon! Second, I’m so happy to see the steam stoker engine up on the metal planer. It’s exciting to see these two projects come together like this.
I've never been hurt in a situation where I've thought "this could be dangerous", it's always been "I need to get this silly job done quickly" - so stay in the dangerous workshop Keith !!!
exactly, I've spent my life in construction working at heights, driving racecars, and mountain biking yet it's mundane daily life stuff where I get 'hurt'. I've done amateur level downhill mountain biking and never got seriously injured yet riding a bike on a paved bike trail I wasn't paying attention and went over the bars and broke a rib.
Prayers for complete and full recovery! The planer is working beautifully in my opinion, wonderful to see a vintage machine restoring another vintage machine.
I had a dear friend (who has since passed away) who always insisted that: “getting old ain’t for sissies!!! Now that I am 65, I totally understand what he was talking about. Don’t be a hero. Do what the doctor says and don’t rush the process on our account! Wishing you the best of luck and a speedy recovery!!!
Hi Keith, Welcome to the club. Two years ago I took a fall and broke my left wrist, thumb and ring finger. Wrist still hurts. I'm now 74, but act like I'm 24. Take it easy for a while and get well.
Praying for you, Keith. Don't take a combination of a puncture wounds and broken bones lightly. My hubby caught his hand in a leather sewing machine years ago and ripped off a nail and broke the bone under it. ER docs told him they consider that to be a compound fracture, as the risks of infection are the same. Take care of yourself. I am thrilled to see this project progressing, finally. It just shows that this was probably the kind of machine this engine was built on, and sometimes the old ways can do things that modern methods can't. I can't imagine how proud you are going to be when this thing finally runs. There aren't many people who would spend several years restoring a 130 year old machine in order to be able to do the job. There is no quit in you.
O man i was excited to finally see some machining on that engine. then Dam.. Sorry to hear about your broke your hand Keith. Take it easy and Get well soon buddy.
Watching you stick your arm inside that block with the machine running, that was my first thoughts. Glad it wasn't the machine. Sucks about the injury period. None of us are getting any younger. I'm 56 and finding my body doesn't want to do what I was able to do when in my 20's and 30's. Be safe, be careful and heal up quickly. Follow their directions Keith, helps with the recovery. Don't ask how I know. Lol get better
I'm 58 and work on airplanes for a living. I completely agree with you there. Would much rather be in my woodworking shop or sitting here watching Keith do his thing. Without him getting hurt, of course.
For me, it was when he was sticking his head down in there to see how it was going. Sure, the shaper moves slow, but it also won't stop when things go pear shaped.
When you came back and I saw your arm in the sling I thought you had your arm caught in casting . That would have snapped your arm like a twig and a life changing injury . I'm glad that didn't happen . I hope you heal up quickly . That tool you made and the planer are workin out great , thanks for the video .
Sorry about the accident prayers for a speedy recovery. No worries man we will be here. I'll be watching some of the older ones to continue learning thanks for sharing skills
That is such a neat old machine , thanks for saving it. I watched the entire restoration series, well done Sir. Get on the mend and get well soon so you can continue the work on the stoker engine. You are a legend Sir.
You like like you are dressed for cold, Keith. You must be proud of what you did with that machine. Incredible job of it.hose tool built what we have today. Before you went out to play with stick and stones, you should remember they break your bones. Sad story but glad to hear nothing is serious and you're going to be okay.
Hope you heal up quickly. Time to reorganize, relabel, rearrange a bunch of stuff? 3D printing and laser cutting experiments and practice? I cannot imagine that there are not a bunch of cool stuff to do around the shop.... Thanks Keith. Appreciate all of your efforts....
We all wish you a speedy recovery Keith. At least it will give you the chance for a rest! We look forward to your next video, but we'll wait with patients!! Lol.
I'm sure the thing that hurts most is the lost time in the shop! Heal well and don't rush it - the shop and your viewers will be here when you're back to yourself.
Dang it Keith. That's what happens when we start getting old hope that heals up for you soon. Take care don't push it to hard, and take care of yourself. We need you healthy.
Hope you get better soon. Who would have guessed that I would love watching these videos. I am a retired LEO officer and now supervise at a rapid deployment center. I have done no machinery experience, but this fascinates me. Get well and we will be here when you return. You make this fun and you will again very soon.
And yet Another retired LEO commenting. Keith, best wishes for your rapid and successful recovery. Love your work. I'm lucky enough to have a friend who does all this stuff and has a at least as much machinery as you do. Because I occasionally get involved with it, I realize it's all fun and games for those of us who only have to watch the work. Take a little break, heal up, make some plans for the future while you're doing it and then come back to us. And remember, if this is the worst thing that happens to you in 2025, you'll be doing just fine.
And people think yardwork is easy! Little do they know. For someone how has just retired, you seem all the more busy! Take it easy. Rest up. Get well soon. We will all be here for more of your great videos!
Dang it! This is like some cruel joke to that handful of guys that have been asking about the Stoker Engine in EVERY comment section for the last few years. REST UP the shop, projects, and viewers will all be here whenever you get back. NO RUSH!!!!!!!!
Lots of love to you and yours Keith, heal quickly buddy, that's what you get for straying out of the shop, seriously get well soon, rest and take it easy
I love all the little details of this machine, the original parts, and the things you added like the automatic oiler. It's a treat to watch, and I bet you had a lot of fun making it what it is. Hope you're all mended up soon!
Hey Keith: Been there, done that, twice, and it sucks! If the doctor wants to put pins in to stabilize the break, tell him or her NO WAY. On my left hand fracture, (many years ago), they put my hand in a fiberglass cast. I built a deck with my hand in that cast! When I fell and broke my right hand in 2023, the doctor put three pins, essentially stainless nails, to stabilize the 5th metacarpal with the 4th metacarpal. The surgery was only about 15 minutes, and the pain meds lasted about 24 hours. Once the meds wore off, my hand hurt like hell! The pins were essentially cut to length with diagonal cutters, and were constantly poking the inside of my skin. For two months, I could not use my right hand, nor rest it on its outside edge. When the doctor went to pull the pins out, he gave me injections for the pain that necessarily go into the nerve. It felt like he hit me with 480VAC power! Oh, and a hint for the cast itch, use a long TyWrap to scratch inside the cast. Heal up soon, and BE CAREFUL! (Advice I also need to follow!)
Tripping and falling at our age is a big thing! I tripped over a welding cable last year dislocating my ankle and breaking my fibula. From that learned to slow down, be more careful where I step and pick my feet up when walking. Follow your doctors orders and rest up. Best of luck my friend... Stay positive...
It can happen to anyone; when you least expect it. That's why they call it an accident. I had a tib-fib break while golfing 30 years ago. Good luck and stay safe.

It's great to see more progress on the stoker engine, looks like the planer is making great work of it! Take care of yourself, too! The stoker engine has waited this long; it can wait a bit more for you to recover. Wishing you a speedy recovery and many more fun projects in the new year!
Oh man!! At first, I thought you got your hand caught down inside of that casting, Keith. I ran a 16' Gray planer for five years. When I saw you with the arm in there brushing away cuttings I thought be careful. When I saw your cast I thought the worst. Glad it was "only" a fall outside. Speedy recovery Kieth, you’re too valuable an asset to old time machining to lose. Don’t rush back, heal well.

Keith, it is known the older we get the less we "bounce" like we did in our twenties. That said, wishing you a speedy recovery and take as long as you need to safely return to the shop, I, for one, would rather miss a few videos while you fully heal than have you rush back and take a chance on getting hurt worse.
Ouch! Sorry for what happened Keith, hopefully those heal just fine. That's nothing compared to it being your head getting crushed. When you were putting it in between the tool holder and the piece I was like: "whoa that's dangerous" That holder is working beautifully. Get well soon.
Hoping for a quick recovery. I was cleaning our pool and slipped and fell and fractured my wrist, so I can imagine the pain. It is also frustrating while healing the things you cannot do that you take for granted. Take care, and don't rush it. :)
Be careful Keith, we need you. That machine could crush your arm in a flash.

Oh shit. Keith, stay in the shop, it is safer.

Sorry to hear about your arm! Hope you heal up fast-take it easy, you’re important to all of us.
I keep telling my wife that yard work and other things on her honey-do list are dangerous and that I'm safer in the shop. It hasn't worked yet but maybe after watching this video she'll change her mind. Thanks for taking one for the team! Wishing you a quick and complete recovery.

The Revenge of the Stoker Engine - Oh no! Get well soon Keith. Appreciate your efforts in getting this video out.
Between all the time Adam and Keith have put into that engine and now his injuries... You're right. it's cursed.
That stoker is Jinxed?
Get well soon!
My best wishes on your recovery. We can wait for you Keith!
take your time healing up. we will be here, best wishes!
Good luck with the injury. We’ll be here when you return. Heal up and take care of yourself first and foremost.
Hopefully the healing will go smoothly, wish you a speedy recovery
Prayers for complete and full recovery!
The planer is working beautifully in my opinion, wonderful to see a vintage machine restoring another vintage machine.
Keith,
Sorry to hear this unfortunate news. Praying you have a speedy full recovery. God bless. Boe 🙏🙏

I knew a fella that said that all the time too. And he fought in the battle of the bulge. I think he thought getting old was worse.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I am really enjoying this project, maching an 80 year old part with a 120 year old planer.
Hi Keith,
Welcome to the club. Two years ago I took a fall and broke my left wrist, thumb and ring finger. Wrist still hurts. I'm now 74, but act like I'm 24. Take it easy for a while and get well.

Yeah I hope he sees one of these comments pointing it out.
Fellow 56yr old here, you're not alone in finding out your body's not your friend any more. It sucks 🤣
I'm 58 and work on airplanes for a living. I completely agree with you there. Would much rather be in my woodworking shop or sitting here watching Keith do his thing. Without him getting hurt, of course.
Not exactly OSHA approved
For me, it was when he was sticking his head down in there to see how it was going. Sure, the shaper moves slow, but it also won't stop when things go pear shaped.

I had the same thought. I was glad it wasn't the plane that got him.
Sorry about the accident prayers for a speedy recovery. No worries man we will be here. I'll be watching some of the older ones to continue learning thanks for sharing skills
Sorry for your injury, but so grateful that it's yard related and not machine related. Take care, heal well.
I have been waiting for this to come back for years.
Sorry about your injury. Glad it didn't happen on the planer! Get well soon.
Good morning Keith! Sorry you are injured but I"m glad it was not worse. Rest and recover. Thanks
Wow, it's the first we've seen of this project for at least 5 years
Sorry about your injury, Keith
And hope you recover as quickly as possible. You are a tough man. All the best.
Get well soon, Keith! All the best from 🇩🇪
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
This video makes me glad I went a year without a hand injury for the first time in a while...
That is such a neat old machine , thanks for saving it. I watched the entire restoration series, well done Sir. Get on the mend and get well soon so you can continue the work on the stoker engine.
You are a legend Sir.
Get well soon. In the meantime, I'll watch some of those older playlists.
Hope your recovery will go well. Thank you for showing the progress on the planer. You explain it very well.

It’s at 32f in the morning here in south Georgia. Old bones don’t much care for that…
Hope you heal up quickly. Time to reorganize, relabel, rearrange a bunch of stuff? 3D printing and laser cutting experiments and practice? I cannot imagine that there are not a bunch of cool stuff to do around the shop.... Thanks Keith. Appreciate all of your efforts....

Wishing you a speedy recovery! Amazing how after all the attempts to restore this engine, it takes an old, belt-driven machine to get the job done.
Prayers for a speedy recovery.
Dang it Keith. That's what happens when we start getting old hope that heals up for you soon. Take care don't push it to hard, and take care of yourself. We need you healthy.
Get well soon Keith from West Chiltington England
I been waiting 3 years for this episode and now your hurt!!! Get better soon bud!👍👍
Hope you get better soon. Who would have guessed that I would love watching these videos. I am a retired LEO officer and now supervise at a rapid deployment center. I have done no machinery experience, but this fascinates me. Get well and we will be here when you return. You make this fun and you will again very soon.

No ... Keith ... I will pray for your speedy recovery.

And people think yardwork is easy! Little do they know. For someone how has just retired, you seem all the more busy! Take it easy. Rest up. Get well soon. We will all be here for more of your great videos!
Mend well my friend. May your recovery be swift and pain free.
Take care Keith and wish you a speedy recovery!
Wish you a very fast recovery from Brazil. Take it as a kind of a forced vacation, hope you enjoy the recovery time doing other things you like.
Dang it! This is like some cruel joke to that handful of guys that have been asking about the Stoker Engine in EVERY comment section for the last few years. REST UP the shop, projects, and viewers will all be here whenever you get back. NO RUSH!!!!!!!!
Hoping for positive vibes from the orthopedist, and a quick painless recovery!
Rotten luck about your arm Keith, and when it was all going so well. Take care and wishing you a speedy recovery.
Lots of love to you and yours Keith, heal quickly buddy, that's what you get for straying out of the shop, seriously get well soon, rest and take it easy
Gosh. I'm so sorry to hear that it was going so well. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Take things easy.
I love all the little details of this machine, the original parts, and the things you added like the automatic oiler. It's a treat to watch, and I bet you had a lot of fun making it what it is. Hope you're all mended up soon!
Sorry for you, Keith ! You take care and get some rest. We will all be there when you'll getting better. Stay safe !
Welcome to old age! Sorry to hear about your hand, please get well soon!
Ohh Gosh Keith, Happy Healling .
We'll all be here.....
Sorry to hear about your arm, get well soon Keith. Appreciate your efforts.
Sorry to hear of your accident. Here is wishing you a speedy recovery.

Ouch! We are wishing you a fast and full recovery!
It's always the "easy" things that bite us in the rear! Hope you get better soon sir!
It can happen to anyone; when you least expect it. That's why they call it an accident. I had a tib-fib break while golfing 30 years ago. Good luck and stay safe.
We always practice safety in the shop. When we go out to do something outside we sometimes leave our practices behind.
I was doing a small task for my wife in her garden. I was prying a board with a screwdriver. The screwdriver slipped and the blunt end hit me in the eye. I had no big damage to my eye. I have needed to see a retinal specialist several times for the past 2 years to make sure it was healing. All I needed to do was practice the safety educate in the garden that I do in my shop, like safety glasses. Oh, so simple. I now keep my safety glasses with me everywhere I go but I do not were safety classes in the bathroom.
We have met at the annual gathering in California. Take care, Stay Strong and practice shop safety everywhere you go
What an awesome old machine. Watching the belts move back and forth was fascinating. Hope your arm heals well.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Best wishes for a swift and full recovery Keith. We will all be here when you get back. Rest up and accept the TLC from the people that are close to you.
We had a homemade lift bar with chain attached to the clapper box, which allowed us to lift that tool higher on the return stroke (even though the machine had an automatic lift mechanism). This worked well when doing deep plunge work. Stay safe, my friend!
Rest is nature’s great healer! Rest as well as you can Keith!
Oh no! So sorry to see you had an accident. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Keep us posted on your progress. Take care.
Nice to see that with patience and perseverance, you've been able to come up with the means to do the needed work on the stoker engine. Might want to have a discussion with your size 12's about staying out of the way and keeping you out of trouble. With that in mind, get well soon. By the way, loving the additional videos during the week.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
What a mechanical marvel. The guys who designed this stuff were so clever.
I just love the fact that a machine built over 100 years ago is still useful and still working. In a world of unnecessary complexity (and I say that working in IT) it is nice that useful simplicity is still king.
When I saw you with the arm in there brushing away cuttings I thought be careful. When I saw your cast I thought the worst. Glad it was "only" a fall outside. Speedy recovery Kieth, you’re too valuable an asset to old time machining to lose. Don’t rush back, heal well.
Get well soon
Our prays are with you Keith, get well soon but don't rush it the most important thing is to get totally healed up so we can see more of your adventures in the machine shop.
Sorry about your hand wishing you a speedy recovery
sorry to hear about your fall. wishing you a speedy recovery
SO sorry about your injury! I love your content, and all that you share. I'm sure it's frustrating, but please put yourself first.
Praying for a speedy recovery 🙏
My first thought was: that was an accident with that mashine.
Wish you all the best.
Greetings from Germany!
Best wishes for a quick recovery! I keep telling my wife that yard work is dangerous.
Sympathies. Old folks break. Take care. Wish you well.
That totally sucks. I hope your recovery goes well, Keith, and that in the meantime you are able to do the things you love to some extent.
There's something spooky about that stoker engine it's been fighting you for 3 years or more, but I think the old plainer is proving it's worth 👍
Fantastic progress, I'm glad to see it's working. Get some rest!
Been there done that myself Keith. simple little project in the yard and i fracture a bone in my hand in four places. that was it for my summer.
Oh jeez Keith get well soon, and take care and get better soon
Keith, it is known the older we get the less we "bounce" like we did in our twenties. That said, wishing you a speedy recovery and take as long as you need to safely return to the shop, I, for one, would rather miss a few videos while you fully heal than have you rush back and take a chance on getting hurt worse.
Ouch! Sorry for what happened Keith, hopefully those heal just fine. That's nothing compared to it being your head getting crushed. When you were putting it in between the tool holder and the piece I was like: "whoa that's dangerous"
That holder is working beautifully. Get well soon.
That's why I don't do yard work! Get well soon Keith. Love watching your videos and how you figure things out.
So sorry to hear about your injuries. Best wishes for your speedy recovery. We will be with you along the way.
Hoping for a quick recovery. I was cleaning our pool and slipped and fell and fractured my wrist, so I can imagine the pain. It is also frustrating while healing the things you cannot do that you take for granted. Take care, and don't rush it. :)
