Another great honest kite review. You're providing a valuable service to the kite community. I've suggested to the AKA that they print kite reviews in their magazine but maybe some of their advertisers would not appreciate them.
A beautifully filmed and honest review of this historic kite design. I wonder if Mr Brogden was inspired with the sails on the old full rigged ships? I am so glad you got one of these unique kites, it looks impressive.
Thank you for the Video. I know its been several years ago you made it. It looks like the setup is near horizontal. I always strugle when i get mine out to fly. Ist wiggling around or even falls down. Maybe i should try to setup my brogden more flat
Mine came with no instructions, which is bad. I found that the bridle lines were not set up properly, and I had to experiment with them to get them right. It's also important to set the bow-lines correctly - more bowing in higher wind, and usually more bowing at the bottom than at the top. Set up right, it flies very well, but needs a fairly smooth wind. I don't have mine anymore, but I enjoyed flying it at the time, and it's certainly a beautiful kite. I hope you can experiment with yours and get it to fly well. Good luck!
Hi, Fighter kiters would never pull in and pile line in one place. They walk around while pulling in line. If you have to roll it, put it back on the spool, pulling line out from the bottom of a pile tends to create knots. This may not be a problem, or so much of a problem, with thick line but it will be a problem with thin line. Good Winds and loving the kites and the videos!!!
You are quite right, Joseph, and usually I'm much more careful about that. This time, I had to stay in one place to be sure the camera was still focused on me. And yes, thicker line tangles less than thin, but it can still cause problems! I'm glad you enjoy the videos.
I really like how you shot this video Jim. Saw recently that you no longer have the Music Man. I see Helen has some of the Music Man for sale on Ebay. Is this one you still own, despite the flaws shown?
No, Michael, it was one I disposed of a few months ago in order to raise some much-needed cash. It's a great kite, so if you're interested I would recommend either version, although I much prefer the Orbit. That is NOT Helen selling on eBay, it's a rival company in the same town.
@@JimNicholls Thanks for the info on the kite and eBay. Interesting. I see Premier also produced a Geo version of this kite. All are hard to come by these days. Hope yours held its value.
There's not a big demand for kites here, so value is not what it should be, but unfortunately postage is now so expensive that sending overseas is almost impossible.
veyoman I never measure the wind speed, Mont, although I do have an anemometer. I would guess it was about 8 to 10 mph, near the bottom end of its range (6 to 18 mph.)
Hi, Jim! Is there a particular way of tying the bridle on the brogden? I got one second hand, but it came undone. I tied the bridle as thought it should be, but I'm not sure about the results.
Hi Francisco! I don't have the Brogden Diamond any more, but as far as I can remember, the bridle lines were all just tied to a ring to which I then attached the flying line (they could be just knotted together without the ring). I know the bridle lines weren't properly connected when I bought the kite (new) and neither were most of the other rigging lines. You may be able to see from my videos how things should be, but I can't help more than that, unfortunately. All the best, Jim
Stunning kite Jim. A real shame about the presentation and Premiers QC. In Premiers defence, I did contact them about the bridle on my Mayan DDC and to be honest their response was very good, several detailed emails ensued.

Nick Taylor Thanks, Nick, and you're probably right about that. I know that Premier, for one, are very touchy about criticism.
It is great you have the personal experience to resolve set-up problems when they occur. Another fine video. Please, keep up the good work. Thanks.
***** Thanks, Mr Ratone! I'll do my best to carry on a bit longer.

Kite flying DownUnder.... Carl Gillard Thank you, Carl. It's certainly a lovely kite, and I hope you get a chance to see it, and maybe fly it, soon.
Thank you for the Video.

Beautiful Design & it's probably bad luck of the draw that you received the 1 of 100 that went out unchecked.
I've heard of several with problems. Premier Kites are not always great on quality control.

@@JimNicholls Yes. I've noticed that even shipping something in from Canada is quite expensive.
Hi Jim,
the Brogden Diamond looks amazing on your video!
It flies steady, what was the wind speed...
veyoman I never measure the wind speed, Mont, although I do have an anemometer. I would guess it was about 8 to 10 mph, near the bottom end of its range (6 to 18 mph.)

CirrusRC You had more luck than I have had in the past, David. But there is no real excuse for such bad quality control in that price range.
This is a light wind kIte only? Similar to the canard?
CirrusRC Needs a little more wind than the Canard, quoted range is 6 to 18 mph.
