This is why officers should not be able to "just run plates." Stolen cars should come on a Hot Sheets. This ability to just run "any plates", leaves the door open for abuse, profiling, and retaliation. I hope they get all due compensation.

Remember the way these german sausages treat these people as soon as they get them into custody… for doing nothing. See how “nice” they act while they are trying to destroy your life? See how nice they get when they tell you they aren’t out to get you while interrogating you because they suck at their jobs? Don’t EVER think the police are there for you.
This is kidnapping with a deadly weapon and they should be charged as such.

You will never know what it's like period. How many mistakes you got to get before you see their a problem...I was always told and taught everything was equal, but that doesn't apply to us all. An apology is good but not enough. The innocent family was traumatized, guns drawn, threatened to shoot and treated in the most horrific way because of inattention in entering information in the system. Can't imagine how the tournament worked out considering family's state of mind. If the cops been more trigger happy, someone may have ended up dead. Officers should get plenty of rest, use good judgment and re-check what the data they enter to run a license plate because their negligent can cause lives. The family should sue for the cop's mistake that could have been avoided had the data been verified before entering. The mistake could have been avoided had attention been paid to details.

Agree. If an officer does not approach your vehicle, and gives you commands on a PA (external speaker) you are on a Felony stop. Do as the officer instructs, if your innocent you can straighten it out after the officers take control of the scene.
During routine traffic stops, put your car in park, turn on interior light at night, put your hands on steering wheel, passengers hands on dash, rear passengers hands on top of front seats, keep doors locked, roll down your window about 2 inches.
This family has well behaved children.
This is really a great video, to educate others. Make sure your children know what to do on a traffic stop.
At the end of the day, officers simply want to make it back home.
      Mistakes happen, we're all human.
One thing I noticed, is how these officers told the truth and explained the mistake to this family ...:-)
