Most professionals coach/teach lessons often. I’ve seen some grandmasters charge 100 dollars or more per hour for lessons, whereas some only charge like 20 or something. But then I’ve seen some NM charge 40 dollars per hour too, kinda depends on their country though. But a lot of strong players seem to make a living teaching or streaming. Or at least supplements what else they are doing to make money. If you aren’t in the top 100-1000 in the world, then you just need a lot of students or to stream consistently. It’s not too hard getting students thanks to the internet nowadays. For me I’m close to NM and I’ve coached a bit before but I plan to get more students or people that want to play training games against me after I get the title. Being a titled player stands out.
Although I’ve purchased training games from a streamer I like cuz they are strong although not a titled player yet (around 2150 uscf) they only charge me 15 dollars for two long rapid games that usually take between 1-2 hours. But generally they charge 40 dollars an hour for lessons too.

13:35 the laws in Europe are not like the ones in the USA. If you find oil, or whatever, on your property, it belongs to the state, you get absolutely nothing. Maybe eviction. Those are the laws in the EU countries at least, I think Russia is similar.

Most people eventually come to the realisation that just because it's on a public website, doesn't mean it's true. At the end of the day, Hikaru might be wrong as well as he doesn't know for sure either. Peoples net worth can only be speculated on and even if you hear the number from their own mouths or see a number in their bank account, you still can't be sure. And these numbers can't be verified so Hikaru can feel comfortable making fun of it as there is no way to know whether he is right or not and he's an insider so people will be more likely to believe him than a random website

    • @gmchessplay9043

@@theguy9067 Well that’s kind of the point I’m trying to highlight. It’s such a speculative topic so it had me wondering why the article was created in the first place? Hikaru is speculating sure, but he did not go through the trouble of writing an article spreading misinformation. I’m not even an insider like Hikaru and could tell some of these figures were way off. It makes you question the validity of anything you see online, even things that may appear obvious.

Net Worth involves earnings from non-chess activities like endorsements, state sponsorships, investments, etc.
Earnings are completely different than net worth, and is also typically taxable, so living as a resident in countries like Norway probably takes an enormous chunk out of earnings and severely decreases increases in net worth.
If someone like Maxime really do own homes in the heart of places like Paris, that by itself would be of enormous value contributing to net worth.
If people like Anish Giri who is stupendously internationally popular also own good homes in places like Amsterdam, he probably belongs on this list.
I also wonder if players like Ding Liren should be on this list... Who are largely state sponsored but don't have as high a public profie and Q quotient as Western players.
Yeah, regardless what the actual worth of each player might be, there are plenty of reasons why the ordering of the List is inaccurate.
