FOR REAL. I feel like I've read way too many books recently where we start with a good premise, then it's just blah for most of the middle, and then I'm supposed to care when they finally get around to making it good for the last forty pages.
Me rn reading Nettle & Bone.. I was so psyched to read this book and now I'm forcing myself to finish this book to find something that really makes it worth while.. And I'm 70% done and I really just don't think the ending will change my mind about how boring the book is. Even if it's a great ending..

I think this research confirms how insular the online book community can be and how goodreads (which is owned by Amazon) promotes specific books for Amazon sales.

This is a great video to remind folks that recommendations are just that, recommendations. Whether or not you enjoy a book is 10000000000000% up to you and your personal taste. Social media is such a double edged sword when it comes to book recommendations and/or hype.

Hey... Totally random, I was looking on Goodreads and... are you aware that you are the number 3 most followed person on Goodreads in the past year? Like as in... you outrank Rebecca Yarros for the past year, and only Colleen Hoover and Book Riot have had more followers in the past year.... Just thought that was pretty good. Not entirely sure how accurate those stats are, but when I looked you up on goodreads, I just thought that was cool.
aww I loved One Dark Window! So different from other fantasies I read, haven’t started the second but I heard it’s so good too!
i think it’s another cruel prince situation people go into it for the wrong things and get disappointed. sometimes books don’t have to have a heavy romance to be good😭😭
Bright Young Women was one of my top reads of 2023! I do think it’s mis-marketed as a thriller when it’s really a critique on true crime, but all goes to show that reading is subjective!

completely agree with not expecting so many things in 5 survive to be in a YA book!! For me it made it so much more thrilling because I was like “no I don’t think that would happen it’s a YA” then BAM

This comparison across social media platforms is interesting. I lurk on all of them but don't really post about reads anywhere except GoodReads. So I wonder how much how people talk about books or review books skews public awareness of books and also skews who wins the GoodReads awards at the end of the year. Chicken or the egg situation!

Yellowface and Educated are both excellent. The best memoir I’ve read is “Know My Name” by Chanel Miller.
I consider "Know my Name" to be the best memoir I've ever read too. It was amazing

Id recommend the family game audiobook! It was so good and the author narrated it!
Good apps that offer audiobooks that I use are Hoopla and Libby, both are based on your library card and they have a decent selection of ebook and audiobooks. And they are free which is nice. I read a lot of audiobook and find them to work well and have most of the book I want to read.

i read educated a couple years ago in high school, and as someone who lives in idaho, like she did, it was super interesting to think about something so life changing and vastly different from my life happening in such close proximity to me!
Since you are reading more memoirs I’d like to recommend one of my favorites, the distance between us by Reyna Grande. I read it years ago but it has had a special place in my heart and mind ever since and I think it’s a book everyone should read.
This scratched such a deep itch in my brain. You really went up and beyond for this 🙌
