If you ever decide to start selling your creations, you have a committed customer here. It is VERY DIFFICULT to find honest people in this world. The fact that you take the time to tweak patterns and make it your own shows me that you have put careful thought into your pads. If it is comfortable and works for you, it will be comfortable and work for other women too! Happy sewing!
I love your videos. You say you ramble on but I feel like you are just making sure we understand what you are talking about. I like how you tell us why you made the decision you made. I am very shy and don't like to post. I needed you to know I trust your judgment of products and I wanted thank you for the time you put into them. I would have never made a pad or even gotten out my sewing machine again if it was not for your videos.
Your voice is so soothing I find myself sewing a lot better when I started listening to your advice and I have a calmness come over me as I sew when you are talking as I sew and when I mess up I don't flip out.
I'm binge listening/watching your videos while sewing. You are a wonderful speaker and educator. I feel compelled to make my own "RUMPS" (and shop etsy) to give it a try. Thank you!!
I find Amy very relaxing and has a comforting tone,I love all her videos, humor, stories of experience and education.i can't wait for pdf of Amys pattern because I love the shape and gusset width.
Continuing from previous message. My grand daughter has already said she want 10 pads so I’m going to be busy. Just finished scrubs for the NHS. I’m in the UK so will tell friends about your tutorials and encourage them to try cloth pads. Keep up the good work. Stay safe
Hi Amy. I just wanted to say thank you for your pattern videos (tutorials, DIY, etc). I tried to make cloth pads on my own a few years ago and I gave up because the pads were ugly and non functional. About a year ago, I stumbled across your RUclips channel and your Facebook group. It was through your tutorials that I was able to make my first "functional" cloth pad. I since then have used both free and purchased patterns, but I always come back to your free 10" pattern and it is my go-to. So again, thank you. You helped me to free myself from chemical and toxin filled disposable pads, and move to something that is more natural and gentle to my body (not to mention my wallet). XOXO Melissa
Oh wow! I didn't know that it was Taxed as a Luxury Item! How are they even allowed to do that! Can't have it both ways (but apparently the Government can :( ).
I agree with wzrdreams the way you explain not to get down on yourself or freak out about the little details has helped me anxiety alot, stayed up late cutting cores and I've made my own forms to go off on, I'm very excited about this project and with most projects I'm an anxious mess start to finish, but I have hope with this and your videos really are soothing and educational
Loving your videos. I am listening to them as I sew my first set of cloth pads. I'm going a bit mad with my fabric selections but I'm having so much fun lol. I'm using a set of free patterns for different sizes of pads from Lunawolf. She used to sell them but they are free now and I really like them as a lot of the patterns I have found tend to be a bit on the small side, like a regular disposable pad, but I find I need more coverage from cloth pads because I can't 'stick' the pad in the place I need it and it moves around a little. Thanks for the videos, keep it up!
Thank you so very much for sharing your ideas and how to's. I learned how to hand stich by my grandma at the age of five, but that's as far as I got. Patterns, cutting fabric, keeping a straight line on the sewing machine, hearing all these words like top stich, zigzag, wow! Brain overload! I watched my grandma sewing for years and never know how hard it was. Well she die when I was 14 and I never really got a chance to learn much else. You have been very inspirational and helpful to my overloaded brain. So on to my question, I'm not sure how to cut my fabric. I hear there is on grain and it has to be straight. I don't know help! I'm not even sure if I know the difference between fabric. I have some fabric I purchased to make a wrap dress, jersey cotton I think, instead I made a skirt, oh boy did I learn a lot the first time using a sewing machine. Yep, that's right, I had no idea what I was doing; but it wasn't completely awful I was still able to wear it until I washed it! Yeah, wash fabric before sewing. So I'm wondering if I can use it to make my pads. Maybe as the top layer or the core. I want to try and use what I have already. I did buy PUL and I have some flannel. I truly want to make my own and learn how to use my sewing machine. Thanks again!
I have heard about the grain of fabric, it's called bias. Sometimes, there are instructions about cutting on the bias or with the bias or against the bias. To be honest, I have never considered any of that. Again, I am very new to sewing myself. My understanding is that bias becomes much more important with stretchy fabrics like the knit jersey you spoke of with your skirt. If I ever learn more about it, I will share that information with everyone. :). For now, all I can tell you is that my understanding is the bias runs parallel with the selvedge.
They all just look PAD shaped to me? I can see the differences, and yes. Yours is different. I've seen LOTS of products that BLATANTLY copy others, pulling one out of thin air here, such as rainbow loom/crazy loom, etc and the no metal hair elastics! No, you're not doing anything wrong at all. I love that you make your own while also supporting others! ☺
Thank you! I love watching you! If you ever want to give your extra pads away. Our family would love them:) we have 3 girls in this house who would love them! Keep up the great work!
I love the self-sufficiency of making, using, and caring for my cloth pads and wipes (I dont use toilet paper at home). I love that I am not dependant upon the never ending cycle of consumerism around all disposable products, and saving money on them. Its kinda like "HA! You're not getting my money!" lol
Which type of zorb do you use for your pads? I started looking on amazon and there's a bunch of different types. Have you ever use the "silver" containing one?
I have not used the one with silver. I don't believe any of that is necessary. Laundering and bathing that most people do in the normal course of daily life is more than enough. I use the original Zorb product, which is the cheapest one and comes without any kind of liner fabric. Zorb dimples is also fabulous stuff, and I've used it twice from a sample swatch a friend gave me.
Oh my word! I have beem looking for videos to do this. I am working on a service project for my church group, and I thought of making this for women's homeless shelters. This is fantastic! I saw your tutorial, but I'd love to use your pattern. Is there a way I can buy it from you? I just need this for our service/donation projects. Please let me know thank you so much!
+Amy Nix, I have someone making me a custom pad with no Zorb. I have a few question about what I should have her put in as the core layers for heavy usage. She has bamboo, flannel, and french terry. Do you know what will be trim enough to not feel bulky, but absorbent enough for heavy use? She is VERY open to whatever I want. Thanks! EDIT: Btw, the top material is cotton woven.
I love listening to your thoughts :-) thank you for this video! Although i would totally buy one of you pads...hehe..... oh and also i really learnt a lot from your tutorials! Thanks
I tried to locate the 3 Etsy shops you mentioned but couldn't locate them. Can you resend links or just the names? Amy I love your videos and am excited to start making pads for my 3 girls. Thanks!
Oh my GOOOOH..sh! TeaTime! You do have an amazing artistic eye for choosing the pattern! Love it! Great video! Love all your videos, and enjoy listening to your opinion! Sending love and blessings your way!
+imasurvivornthriver Yes. My pattern is available on my Facebook group ( facebook.com/groups/623672741070527/ ) and it is also posted in the file section at Sewing Cloth Pads ( facebook.com/groups/SewClothPads/ ). On my group, several members have modified my 10" pattern into other lengths, as well.
I have a question. I sew mt own pads also....I sew around and turn it to the right side, BUT I have noticed that when I have done that, the corners of the wings get wrinkly and not flat and nice at all! what should I do? im really careful when I sew around and make sure everything is straight but then it's just a mess! help!
Can I PLEEEEEEEEEZ have your pad pattern!!! I would happily donate for it! You said you'd make it available and not charge for it..... Where would I find it since this video was made about a year ago now.
+4vrceltic It is available for free online in two places. Both are on Facebook. You can get it in the file section of the Sewing Cloth Menstrual Pads group or the Amy Nix Cups and Cloth YT group. Both groups are closed for privacy, so you would have to join the group and wait for someone to admit you. But no one would be upset if you came just to get the pattern. That's why they're posted. Hope that helps.

on the FDA website, you can find the guidelines and various regulations for manufacturing "medical devices," and all the terms. Cloth menstrual pads are included in that umbrella.
