Years ago I stayed at the Bright Angel lodge for a week with my daughter she was six or so. We walked a short ways down the trail just to say we did. It is a beautiful place,
This Summer, it seems the whole world is warming, even a viewer from Ontario was talking about the heat. I hope you can make it to the Grand Canyon for a hike, it is not too long a trip. Thank you for your comment.
More and more I find fruit one of the best hiking foods and I have moved completely away from processed sugars. It is all a learning experience for me. Thank you for watching.
The heat is really challenging. I am scheduled to hike at the Canyon again next week and I think I will do a video entitled "Dancing with the Devil." The Canyon is more quiet, safe and beautiful in the off season, but I think the peaks in visitors are in April and October, if you can avoid those months. I hope to see you on the trail!
What a shame that bright angel trail is currently closed, I hope they get it open on schedule in April this year. It's definitely a hike I want to do, thank you for the information.
Sunrise on the canyon walls was stunning, even in a video recording. It must have been spectacular in person! Are there options to stay at or near the river overnight as well? I think I'd have better luck, and a better experience, if I didn't try to go down and come back in the same day. I imagine you're quite familiar with Colin Fletcher's book on the canyon, but if not, you should get a copy - I believe you'd love it.
There are rooms at Phantom Ranch. You have to book a year in advance, or pick them up a night or two in advance (cancellations) at the Bright Angel Transportation Desk. This year they cancelled the mules to Phantom for excess snow and a lot of rooms came up at the last minute. Phantom Ranch Bookings: www.grandcanyonlodges.com/ There is also camping at Bright Angel Campground and half-way there at Havasupai Garden. If you are energetic, you could also camp at Cottonwood. I have read Fletcher, thanks for the recommendation. Thank your for your comment.
I am pretty slow in the morning, plus I stretch and eat breakfast, so I give myself two hours in general to get on the trail. I would say I was on the trail that day a bit before 3:30am. Most people make the downhill faster than me.
wow 100 times thats amazing. great info from a insider with a-lot of experience but not sure I would ever try that in 90 degree heat I think its best and safer to do in cooler months thank you
This is the second video of yours that I've watched. I have enjoyed both, except for the sound. I just now compared your videos to others I've watched recently on RUclips, and only yours have sound problems, so it's not my computer that is at fault. It looks as though you're relying on the microphone in the phone used for taping, but the phone is held too far from you. I recommend that you get a clip-on Bluetooth microphone that you can attach to your shirt. You have much to offer, but viewers will be lost if they have to struggle to hear you.
Agreed, the sound is a problem, particularly since I have been recording a lot more outdoors. As I noted in my "Senior on RUclips" video (ruclips.net/video/PS66fhNgqmM/видео.html ) my only equipment so far has been a borrowed iphone X and a tripod, and you are right, it is too far and there is too much ambient noise. Coincidentally, today I ordered a microphone, so hopefully that will help. I appreciate your comment and hopefully with time, experience and a bit more equipment, the quality of the videos will improve.
That is a very fair question, I always watch other people's videos and wonder the same thing. Sadly, it has been a while since I made this video. But I generally start 1.5 to 2 hours before sunrise. The rim to river hike takes 8.5 to 10.5 hours, depending on conditions (including mine) and when I make videos it takes longer than usual. Looking back at the video I would say I was on the trail at about 3:20am, and complete by about 2:30, which includes video making.
We did Hike South Kaibab to River to bright Angel trail. Next time , we need to do bright Angel to River ., and we do have to wait for the first express bus 5:00 am to go to south Kaibab trail.
For me, the step downs on South Kaibab are a bit too much. I will go up it, but I prefer not to go down. With the bus transportation time added in, I find Bright Angel to be a faster and smoother hike. Hiking down Bright Angel and then looping over to South Kaibab is a nice hike, and about the same distance as Bright Angel rim to river to rim, but then you either have to hike the 5 miles back to the village or take two buses, which is not all that much fun when you are sweaty and tired. But in the end, I find it all memorable and worthwhile. Thank you for your comment.
I did South Kaibab to River and back once 15 years ago at age 59. I started around 7am, got to the river around 11 am. Started back the same way around 12 pm. It was quite hot at the afternoon since South Kaibab does not have real shade but it is shorter than Bright Angel trail. Maybe more people would do it faster but it took almost 6 hours for me to get back to the rim.
Sounds like a good ET. I think the water on Bright Angel Trail in the Summer really tilts some hikers that way. Also, I usually stay near the BA trailhead, so heading right to my room instead of taking a bus makes it better for me. Thank you for your comment.
Getting to South kaibab trailhead is certainly a pain in the neck, and it is even more frustrating to know that the national Park service purposely made it difficult to get there so that they would do fewer rescues on the trail.
Another great video and tips which can be applied to every hike. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you.

For me, it is a peaceful and thought-provoking place, as well as a place to get a good workout.
Excellent video, I enjoy it very much.
Thank you very much!
Agree.
Wow, this video is so good. I love it. Thank you for sharing.
Ah, you are too kind, but thank you for watching my humble video.
Nice tips.
Thank you!
Great video. As a senior hiker up in Montana I don't generally have this much heat to deal with. Really appreciate your efforts.

2nd video of yours I've watched and now i have to do this! I might wait until it gets a bit cooler. Thanks for great content and tips.

Yes, hopefully the Park will keep us informed in a timely manner.
Useful, comprehensive, and better than any video on the topic I have seen. Thank you for the video.
Thanks, you are much too kind.
Thank you, love your video 😊
Thank you!
This is a very nice video. Good job 👍
Thanks for watching!

Wonderful video, very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you.
Great video.
Thank you!
Thanks! Never thought to go down BA and back up SK
That is the only way I am willing to do it!
Thank you so much! I’m doing it this weekend!
Excellent, best of luck!

Great video, just a question: you woke up at 1.30 , at what time did you begin the trail? About at 2.30?
Many thanks

@@GC-Hiker agreed in the steps down on south Kaibab.I was very slow and careful.

Too bad that trail is closed until April 14th, if they even open it then.
Doubtlessly. I sure hope they open it as I would like to use it on my attempt at a rim to rim to rim hike!
