One of the highlights of my life was having Bogert as the love of my life....we were on / off for over 35 years. Part of those highlights was when I would go to his jam sessions in Granada Hills where their house band was with Paul Kingery of Three Dog Night and Chet McCracken on drums. Tim would let ME play bass and would sing harmony with me on the same mic. I was beyond in love and had been a serious devotee of his music for 17 years before I met him. He was in many ways a truly wonderful and generous person who would sometimes sabotage his relationships. You should hear his Master's Brew album - truly masterful. He had an 8 string bass and loved TEACHING. His students loved him and he told me once that teaching saved his life. Since we were both musicians / bass players / vocalists we were almost never in the same place at the same time. Pretty hard on relationships. I miss him every day and night. What a gift he was to the world. Thanks for this video - he and Carmine were planning another album as he was recovering from his bout with cancer - pity that never came to be. He was so generous in our relationship that he listened to me cry on the phone for a year over someone else - then once I was "better" we started seeing each other again. I don't know many people who would put up with that but Tim did...he'd listen and make me laugh. What a man... Thanks again. Mona Leigh McCrea
Saw BBA from the 7th row and was not disappointed. If memory serves... was suppose to include Rod Stewart. Beck's car accident put that on Hold... Stewart joins the Faces (along with Woody... have to give him a shout out for his Bass Playing on the Beck Albums... really "locked in" w/ drummer Mickey Waller when he came in)... then Cactus emerges when Beck moved on from BBA ?? 1st 3 Cactus albums still stand in my mind as outstanding back to back to back... one being as good or better than the Previous. Was a Blessing in Disguise not having Stewart... allowing Tim to show the Quality of his Voice and his Range (playing like is does and also Singing.... Master Class) Followed Tim and Carmine from Vanilla Fudge through the Cactus Reunion. Thanks for sharing your story Mona
I saw this tour live in Maine when I was in high school. It was just incredible. The 70s were an incredible time for music, and it led me first to playing guitar, then to be a tour sound engineer for 30 years. I still play this on my old LP. Thanks for exploring it on your page!
Tim was not only a great bassist, he was a good person. He loved making music and he loved walking through the city (which ever city he was in at the time) at night while Carman partied the night away at the hotel. He was a true artist and gentleman. Thanks for highlighting his talent.
Hey Mike, I was just waiting for you to post a new video. I want to tell you how cool it is watching you react to the subject matter. This such a Great concept. I have been playing a long time, but your enthusiasm takes me back In time when I discovered so many great bands for the first time. Great work.
Hey Michael, coupla things you may not know: Stevie wrote this song for Jeff but liked it so much he cut it himself. Also, Bogert and Appice were in Vanilla Fudge, a great band doing bombastic, psychedelic versions of popular songs. Check their version of Suptemes “You Keep Me Hanging On!!”
And, according to at least one version of the story, it was Beck himself on drums playing what he claimed was the only beat he knew, when Stevie came up with the famous riff. Also, it was my understanding (could be wrong on this), that Beck actually came up with the guitar/voice box thingy, despite others getting the credit for it.
@@Gregorydrobny alvino Rey was the first guitar player to use a voice box by placing a microphone up to his throat in the 1940s. Not exactly what Jeff Beck did but it worked LOL cheers
@@richardhincemon9423 ha! Yeah, like I said I'm not hanging my hat on it, but had heard that Beck was the one who developed the thing that actually goes in the mouth. Whoa, that sounds...bad.
Carmine Appice is one of the best. I've seen him play twice and was amazed both times. Saw Jeff Beck also. I was ill but dragged myself there, wound with pneumonia and still no regrets.
Looks like you found another piece of gold on RUclips, I'm glad! Tim just passed away about a year ago, but if you like the bass and drum here, please do a Vanilla Fudge REACT video. :-)
Carmine Appice played with many great musicians as did his brother Vinny Appice who played with Dio, Black Sabbath and John Lennon. Imagine them having a Drum battle ….
I remember when this album came out, I listened to it over and over, but we are talking about 3 greats on their respective instruments of all time. I hadn't heard this in awhile and it's still one of my favorites.
I used the money from working my first post-high school job to buy the album, Beck, Bogart and Appice. When my parents were out on the town, I played the album loud on their console purchased at Sears. Great memories.
Vanilla Fudge was a great great band, influenced immensely Deep Purple and others and started the hard rock genre after Cream/Hendrix, before Led Zeppelin/Deep Purple. Underrated as hell
I love that you’ve never heard this version of this song! Wish I could go back and listen to it for the first time again. 👍🏼 Also as a confirmed Jeff Beck fan I agree that Bogert snd Appice steal the show here.
Michael Tim Bpgart amd Carmine Appice were in Vanilla Fudge check out their remake of You Keep Me Hangin On performed on Ed Sullivan and you will see Carmine being a monster on drums
Stevie Wonder originally wrote Superstition for Jeff Beck, but then ended recording it first, of course it was a MONSTER HIT. BBA recorded it later, I still have the vinyl, great album! BTW it's pronounced App-e-ciy
I love this video. Those drums are sick. I just saw Genesis last night and I gotta say that Phil’s son Nicholas Collins is one hell of a drummer. That kid can play
VanHalen was also a big Cactus fan which also featured Tim and Carmine . I always used to kid around with Tim and say his Mom must've mixed the BBA album .
Bogert and Appice part of the Vanilla Fudge. Saw them 8 or so times Fhythm section always incredible . Great vocals background and lead. Ritchie Blackmore said 2nd best band of all time. Go see Fudge on Ed Sullivan playing

What you were saying about Bogert and Appice standing out more even tho Jeff Beck is just shredding pure fire gives me the same kinda vibe as Rush, in that Alex Lifeson is also an insane guitar player but Geddy Lee and Neil Peart did some absolutely insane stuff that nobody anticipated on their instruments. Really makes me sad to have to write did and not do

i haven't read all of the comments, so I'm not aware if anyone has pointed out that Tim Bogart and Carmine Appice played with Vanilla Fudge and Cactus. i also heard that Stevie Wonder actually wrote this song for Jeff Beck.
Stevie didn't exactly write this for Jeff Beck. What happened was Jeff Beck was playing a drum groove (yes he plays drums) and Stevie Wonder heard it and told him to continue that beat and wrote the now famous riff over Becks beat. Beck assumed he'd get that song since Wonder agreed to write him a song, but Barry Gordy kept the song for Stevie and in return, Stevie gave Beck "Cause We've Ended As Lovers".
for your next guitar teacher reacts I recommend taking a look at The Dirty Nil, theyre a pretty undiscovered group with some fun songs, my personal favourite is That's What Heaven Feels Like, recorded live in hamilton, enjoy!
Mickey Waller, Cozy Powell, Carmine Appice, Richard Bailey, Narada Michael Walden, Terry Bozzio, Vinnie Couliuta, just to name a few of Jeff’s skin pounding collaborators through the years. The list of bass players is equally impressive.
Stevie cut his version as a demo for Jeff Beck who he wrote the song for. Someone at Motown found it thought it was a hit and put it out before Bek's version.
