I definitely hadn’t heard of that term until this movie.
The fact that Jay didn’t know what the internet was wasn’t entirely shocking back in 2001. Broadband was only just becoming a thing and most people were still using dial up connections and many people still didn’t have the internet in their homes. It was a different time.
Don't forget, people were just beginning to buy computers. 361 million users worldwide at the end of 2000, compared to 5 billion now. It was small, and being the tech nerd that I am, I miss those days. We were warned about what would happen to it when the masses got a hold of it. Look at it now. It's a marketing cesspool.

The scene with the hitchhiker (George Carlin) will always be my favorite. I've been an extra in several of Kevin's movies because back in the day, he would advertise on his website when and where to be. My g/f at the time lived in the development behind this scene and when I was visiting I called Gail (Kevin's assistant and mother in law) and they invited us over to watch the filming. 3 days later we were in the closing scene at the Time concert. My daughters picture is also on the "Wanted" bulliten board in the sheriffs office. He asked for people to send pictures in.
George recognized me because I was one of the extras in the scene in Dogma when Ben and Matt showed up and signed all my parents comedy LP's of him. Awesome guy.

The references to the movie "The Fugitive" (a Harrison Ford movie from 1993) were in this movie as a way to include Harrison Ford in a way so all three of the main Star Wars Characters could be in the movie since Mark Hamill and Carry Fischer already played parts in it.

Jason Lee is in this movie. Lee also plays the devil in the movie Dogma. Fun Fact... Jason Lee was a professional skateboarder before he was in all these movies and he almost got sued by Dr. Sues for having a cat in the Hat similar design on one of his professional skateboard decks. LOL! and the Nun in this movie is Carrie Fisher (Princess Leigha)

I am an actor and I actually got to work on this film for a week. I played one of the Colorado police officers and had all of my scenes with Will Ferrell. Unfortunately Kevin Smith really shot way too many scenes and since Will Ferrell didn't have a lot of scenes with Jay & Silent Bob a lot of his scenes got cut, and so did most all of my scenes. I'm still in the background, but all of my lines were cut. I still get paid residuals for it though. So thanks for doing this. I did get to meet Mark Hamill at the cast party.

I saw Kevin Smith do a Q & A last week. One of the questions was how the hell did he get Mark Hamill for Jay and Silent Bob strike back. Apparently he wasn't the first choice but it fell through. Carrie Fisher suggest how about Mark Hamill. Apparently she called him up and made it happen.
Damn, General Princess Space Mom always coming through in the clutch.

To be honest - I have avoided watching this reaction until I have seen the film for myself. I got the DVD from eBay today, watched it and then sought out your reaction. I love Kevin Smith films and it's a total experience watching Kevin react to movies himself - he is such a movie fanboy! I also love Dogma over the other films, but this one is a joy to see the previous films tied together.
The Sheriff is played by Judd Nelson of "The Breakfast Club".

By the by, if you're looking for an underrated horror movie, Ben Affleck was in fact the bomb in Phantoms. Which was based on one of Dean Koontz's best books.
Mary is wise as well as adorable. Dogma is the best Kevin Smith movie, but this one is a fairly close second.
Kev really knows how to do fan-service, and this movie has arcing ropes of it flying every which way, covering us in meta ectoplasm. 😁

Love that you're going through the View Askewniverse as they are some of my favorite films and being stuck at home post surgery its been great to have someone to watch some of my favorite films again "with" someone else
Fun fact: Suzanne the monkey is a callback to Mallrats as well. At the end of the film they’re walking off into the sunset with her.
I was planning to see this movie with someone on September 11, 2001, but that plan changed.
In the DVD commentary, Kevin Smith said that Carrie Fisher was a little irritated by Mewes. He also said that she did not want it to be about Leia and Star Wars, so it was before she really embraced the fandom and played into it as she would a few years later.
The payback reference from Ben and Matt was because Kevin smith was more or less responsible for good will hunting being made in the first place, he went to bat for the script at the pitches to Miramax to give them credit
So baby silent Bob at the beginning of the movie is played by Kevin Smith’s real life daughter Harley Quinn Smith. And the driver for the diamond thrives is his wife in real life.
Will Ferrell's character Marshall Willenholly was named after the three characters from the television series "Land Of The Lost".

OH! Mary.... there's a movie that isn't set in this universe, per se, but has a cameo of Jay and Silent Bob. It's called "Fanboys". Also, Jason Mewes had a starring role in the movie "Noobz", which is also hilarious. I recommend both of those movies.
They are also in Scream 3 (as Jay and Silent Bob) ...
If you're a Will Farrell fan, have you ever seen Stranger Than Fiction? A great flick with w great cast and a surprising performance by Will.
Mark Hamill playing the villain in the Bluntman and Chronic movie is a reference to him being the voice of the joker in the animated batman series.

It seems crazy that Jay and Silent Bob don't know what the internet is, but by the end of 2000, there were only 361 million users of the internet. It was still largely dial-up, and people were just beginning to buy computers. While it seems unlikely that they didn't know what it is, it's very likely that they never experienced it.
This was actually the first film Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill did together since Return of the Jedi; and neither knew about the other until the film was released

You missed Animal House references The Angels on Jay Shoulders and their tumbling around in the parking of the animal testing lab. The Fugitive references: The animal testing lab is called Provasic and Will Ferrell falling of the dam.

Dogma is my favorite too. This is my second favorite though because of the women. Those actor's have been in some of my other favorite movies and TV shows. When they get out of the van is always a favorite of mine. The women in the middle when they come out is Kevin Smith's real wife. You'll see his real daughter when you get to Clerks 3.

Something few people know is that this movie actually has a post credit scene. After the credits we see God again. Still being played by alanis morissette.and it shows her closing a book with “the Askewverse” printed on the cover. Implying that this was suppose to be the end of the Askewverse originally. But then they made Clerks 2 a few years later.
If you can find An Evening With Kevin Smith, you'll find out he LOVES to talk at length. The 2-disc DVD set is 225 minutes and he probably only answers like 6 questions.
Hope you saw the bit after the end credits. Marvel didn't invent that gag. American Pie is definitely a must see if only for Eugene Levy and Alyson Hannigan although the entire cast is pretty amazing.

**Warning: The following comment is male-gaze oriented.** Rewatching this 20 years later, one of the biggest takeaways was that with so many of the 1990s' "Hollywood Babes" all together it really showcased that Eliza Dushku was on a whole other level all by herself. IMVHO. 👀 Heck, she even made Ali Larter look almost average by comparison!
I still remember watching "the new guy" for the first time and was jaw dropped at just how smoking hot she is. Same goes for Elisha Cuthbert in "the girl next door". God, the early 2000's churned out some bombshells.

Will Ferrell played Marshal Willandholly, which is a reference to a Saturday morning kids show called "Land Of The Lost" where two of the characters are names Will and Holly Marshall. It aired in the early 70's so I don't expect a lot of people to catch that reference these days.
He also later starred in the Land of the Lost remake as Dr. Rick Marshall.
I wonder if that actually led to him being cast as the lead in the actual movie adaptation of the Land of the Lost?
The Land of the Lost reference is a super DEEP CUT. Can still sing that opening song. That series needs to be streaming somewhere and I am off to find it.

Also it might be out of the utah sheriff's department's jurisdiction but Marshall willenholley is a Federal wildlife management officer. It's all in jurisdiction.

Favorite reaction of Mary's. I LOVE this movie and the reboot. I place it 2 after Chasing Amy. All the cameos.. This was Kevin Smith at his height when he could get big name stars. The filmography slides after this but Clerks II (2006) and The Jay And Silent Bob Reboot (2019) are quality sequels to me in the universe.
